I'm your fourth subscriber. It's very interesting. I think you're the second person a I've met which is against hedonism. The other person is a Spanish free-thinker named Félix Rodrigo Mora. He's also a historian and explains the history of the people and their fight against the powerful and the evolution of the state, as the tool for the elite to dominate the people. Since the American Revolution and the French Revolution, one of objective of the modern state was the happiness of its people. The Welfare State of the European countries and other developed countries, could be also called the Happiness state. If you want to know more about this free-thinker, this is his website: www.felixrodrigomora.org
And here his TH-cam channel: m.th-cam.com/channels/u0H4KdTiidrS8DMJx5tsWQ.html
It's only in Spanish. Sorry for that. He needs help to translate all his videos, books and other publications in other language, specially English, French, German, Russian and Arabic.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! I will be sure to check Rodrigo Mora out, maybe google can provide a rough translation.
Indeed, my two upcoming videos will focus on the numerous problems of a "happiness-utopia". Since this video is just an introduction, you can expect the upcoming videos to be more interesting, and perhaps also a bit controversial in the modern man's eye. One thing I'll aim to show with this series as a whole, is not just that hedonism is false, but also that pain and suffering are really valuable to people, even intrinsically valuable. This is an idea that most people raise their eyebrows at, but I'm convinced that it's the case!
If you haven't read it already, I would recommend Aldous Huxley's - Brave new world. The book portrays a really haunting future of a world where no pain exists, and man is but a domesticated pet in relation to the social order. The absence of suffering seems to give birth to a dystopia, rather than a utopia.
Really great to have you on the team! I rest my case...

I've read "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, and it's what you've said. It's a happiness utopia that becomes a dystopia, cause pain and suffering are essential for human beings. When we imagine paradise as a place without pain and full of happiness, it*means the death as human beings. Then we become like the persons of Brave New World. We become as weak childs, who only work and live thanks to happiness drugs such as the soma, sex and food. These are only distractions, cause we live bored lives without any risk, any improvement any curiosity.
Instead of that, I think we should adopt philosophies that accept pain and suffering such as stoicism. It's important to accept pain and suffering as inevitable and learn from it to become a strong individual in every aspect (mind, emotions and physical body).
And also to value much more important things such as true freedom (with duties, responsibilities and moral boundaries), ethics, truth, love and justice.
I look forward to your next two videos. Keep working on them. Have you read "On duties" by Cicero?

@@adriagarcia5524 I'm not very well read on stoics, but from what I've read I resonate reasonably well with their ideas! I'm i unsure wether they generally advocate some kind of eudaimonism-version of happiness or if they usually dismiss happiness as our highest value altogether?
I actually haven't read on duties! Good tip though, I'll pick it up someday. Read a bit about The book online.
      Thanks!
