    I'm not an artist, at all. Stick figures are my zone, but watching how you did the layers lines and coloring made me feel like I could make something like this. Yay

    This is an amazing tutorial! I've been doing digital art for almost 20 years, and I just wanted a quick reference for setting up the file sizes. I ended up watching the whole video even after I got what I came for, and all your basic advice and tips are fantastic for beginners and pros alike. Quick and to the point with some great tips thrown in. A+ video, dude!

    Thank you very much for this video. I see it is 9 months ago - and i definitely wonder.
    Wondering about the rarity of videos you make, tbh. You have an amazing voice AND tonation! You explain with fun, selfconfidence and enthusiasm - and this is what one can hear in your voice. In addition you make breaks at the right time. To actually say, what i want to say: do your vids further, pls. You are a great teacher - besides your art ;)
    PS: Yes, there are many other tutorial vids out there. Most of them have good content - but its not only the content which matters; it matters how the content is transported as well. And this point... Most of the most vids just dont fulfill.

    Something I like to do instead of having to zoom in and out to see how it looks at the different resolutions...
    Create a new window at each of the sizes the icon will be shown in (in photoshop, this would be window > arrange > new window for.... and then just zoom to the right size), then have these alongside the window I'm actually drawing in.

    I’m not sure if someone already asked this but when you’re done with the emotes (and it’s a commission) how do you make sure the background doesn’t turn white when you send it? I use Procreate and even tho I save the file without background, the background still appears when I send it through gmail! Is it because of the file size or just gmail itself?

      I don't know if you still need an answer, but if you save it as a transparent png, even if it shows a white bg in other places it'll still be transparent - it's just all sites seem to automatically show a white background for transparent pics, that doesn't mean it actually has one.

      So I create mine at 500x500 at 72 dpi on ProCreate then send the designs to Photoshop and re-size them there.
      I do this because ProCreate destroys the quality whereas Photoshop retains it really well 😊

    I have been getting into drawing recently and I found your video very helpful. I do have one question, why not 300dpi? Is there a major difference between 72 and 300 when it comes to the emote quality or file size?

    • @JaceyChase
      @JaceyChase  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Glad it was helpful!
      So 300 DPI is really only necessary for print. The final file sizes have to be in 72 DPI for web. If you plan to print your emotes at a large size you *could* make them 300 DPI, but the problem is the file is *much* larger and you have a lot more pixels to work with. In my experience it takes much longer to draw something accurate at those dimensions and there's room for so much more detail, which ends up getting lost or looking muddy when you resize it to 72 DPI for the web. It's just a personal preference though. You can do whatever you feel most comfortable with.
