Quicker way to get each selection into own layer is upon selection are is completed, hold Control+Shift and tap J. It'll place the selection into it's own layer. Thus the steps of cut, paste & move to specific location is not needed.
@Streamloots Instead of Ctrl-X'ing and moving each piece back into place, use Ctrl-Shift-J will cut the selection into a new layer in its current place! :)
I personally made my own static Twitch emotes and was excited to learn how to make animated ones. This tutorial was perfect! I made my very first animated emote. Thank you for the help! ^-^
So good! I work with photoshop but had no idea they evolved so much the video timeline thing. I always had the impression you needed only After Effects for these animations
Dude! thankyou very much for this tutorial. I'm not very good at drawing or animating but I love to learn. Also emotes can be very expensive and as a super small streamer it super important that I learn how to do this all by myself. So thank you for this tutorial! So concise and simple. THANKS!
Your video quality is top tier - and I know this is completely unsolicited, but I do have a pointer I learned from Sara Dietschy. When framing yourself for videos, it’s a good rule of thumb not to cut the top of your head off with the frame. A general rule is at least 2 fingers (think the 2 in the pink 1 in the stink for reference of the 2 fingers Lmao) between the top of your head and the top of the framing
Hello! I-m trying to animate one emote but, when I change the middle key to make the animation, all my keys (the first one and the final one) change into the same transform image than the middle one!! I don't know if I have something wrong. :( Hope you can help me
How did you make the blinking by the way, was it through the opacity option or some kind of masking? This is super great by the way, didn't know such a feature existed in photoshop!
hey i'm having a slight issue where if i skew the image it is only skew'd in the middle keyframe, the rest of the animation doesn't get skew'd for some reason
This will definitely take me longer than 15 minutes because I'm slow, but this is SO HELPFUL! Thank you! I'm really looking forward to learning how to make it blink!! :)
Okay seriously dont tell people that they have the rights to edit emotes that you bought from an artist. You dont have the copyright, you have the license to use them and you need to check if youre allowed in your license to edit them. Dont be that person, if you already have an artist ask the artist to animate them, or speak with the artist so that youre allowed to change that. This tutorial is basically the issue why copyright is so fucked up in the internet, because people dont understand the shit there talking about.
omg, I'm so confused. My after effects doesn't look like that at all, I automatically get a black background. Any tutorial on how to set it up like this?
I have created an emote on live2d and exported as a png sequence file. I opened in photoshop to export as a gif but the final file is at 1mb :/ how can I decrease this size without losing quality? Discord only allows 256kbs so I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how emote artists are able to make a smooth animation + super small size. Thanks!
Had this exact issue. I was using CS6 and the options he shows above aren't there. I had to get Photoshop CC and then was able to use these features. Good luck!
update: just did this in csp. if you want i can try to make a video on how to do it exactly because it was a little tricky but i think the end result turned out pretty good!
i'm trying to save the emote and post it on my channel, but i'm not able to post it as animated... can someone help me figure out why? Tell me step by step what i have to do please.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I actually made my first few steps watching this! Just a question, I saved it as GIF and at the end, for some reason, it has a strange white outline around it. Like a sort of mini stroke. Is there a way to eliminate that from some of the settings before saving? I noticed things like dether and other stuff that I have no idea what they are, maybe there? Thank you once again.
Hi! I had the same issue and I found that in the "save for web" window, there's a setting called "matte" in the upper right. If you set that to black, it changes that white outline to black so it'll blend into the black stroke of your emote. Hope this helps!
Hello, I want to sell emotes ( I want to draw them for people ordering it), do I get in trouble or something, or is it legal? I wanna try it but I’m a bit nervous that something happens
This is an amazing video! You did great job! Thank you much! You help me to do also my alerts animated! I have an issue and i was wandrering if you have any ideas. Yes!! The blinking looks awesome. Pls make a vid on that!

Can you show us how to make it blink
So good! I work with photoshop but had no idea they evolved so much the video timeline thing. I always had the impression you needed only After Effects for these animations
When you're the artist, gave myself consent, giggled... I swear I'm an adult, but sometimes I have to remind myself...
Anyone know free alternative with same animation system?
I really like this! Going to give it a shot. I've been looking for a way to animate my alerts so I would love to see a video on that.

awesome video! great explanation and thank you for simplifying it first and then showing what additional enhancements can be made.
Hello! what camera you use ? looks really nice !
used your tips to make animated text emotes. thank you so much for a very clear video and easy to replicate!
Thanks dude, I got a yin-yang flowin' in a nice circle due to this tutorial.
this is exactly what i was looking for, cant wait to try this :) thank you!
what editing software are you using
if you could make a video like this but using Clip Studio that'd be amazing, cause I can't seem to figure out how to do this in Clip Studio lol
Appreciate the video, never messed with animation in photoshop, this will really help me get started. Thanks Again
Step one: have photoshop, alright im out see ya
you just saved my butt with this!! Thank you so much! Subscribed and can't wait to check out more!

Hii! If you solved this problem Could you please send me the solution?
U have to click on the settings next to the play button and tick or mark the "replay the..."
Hi Mina, Convert your layer in smart object it will fix the problem. and you will have the "transformation" option and not "position"
I have the same problem ):
I found out what it was! Apparently you can rotate, scale and stuff, but not warp it ): If you warp something, it just stays like that
How did you make the blinking by the way, was it through the opacity option or some kind of masking? This is super great by the way, didn't know such a feature existed in photoshop!
How did you make it transparent gif? Cause mine has a horrible black or white jagged outline.
Is there a program you can use on apple that has a similar feature for timeline?
Amazing, thank you!
"Animate emotes yourself, for absolutely free!" **needs photoshop** lmao
this tutorial is gold, thank you!!
Does photoshop work like this too for iPad??
If you find out lemme know
Not sure, but you can always use procreate on the ipad to draw the emote then save it as a PSD file and transfer it to the computer and use Photoshop
Thanks for doing this in Photoshop i usually find these animation tutorials being done in after effects haha
Absolutely amazing video man. You smashed it out of the park. I had so much fun watching this. I can't wait to share this with my friends on Discord!
Hey thanks. Did you do a more in depth video as of yet?
hey i'm having a slight issue where if i skew the image it is only skew'd in the middle keyframe, the rest of the animation doesn't get skew'd for some reason
Is it possible to do with any other software than Photoshop ?
This will definitely take me longer than 15 minutes because I'm slow, but this is SO HELPFUL! Thank you! I'm really looking forward to learning how to make it blink!! :)
I tried to save the file as a gif, but it simply gave me a static image? Did I save it wrong, or missed something?
File -> Export -> Save For Web (Legacy)
you just saved my life thank you LOL but question! my emote has become too big for discord and im very new to photoshop! how does one compress it?
I compress it with online sites! You can also turn the quality down in rendering (112x112) to something smaller, and it should be better!

File -> Export -> Save For Web (Legacy)
@@KalindriaMM Very helpful. They should add this in the description, took me some time to figure that out. Thanks!
Hi! All great yet one part you have missed. How to save the file, which format is required to have it worked with Twitch ;)
The finished animation has the thing closing its eyelids over the eyebrows, I'm terrified.
Dude, do you have like a course to refer to in order to do this? I wanna make some gnarly assed shit.
Thank you so much for the tutorial, this was very helpful. qwq
how to save the resulting file correctly? In what format? Help please
THANK YOUUU!! ♥
Hey! Thank you for this tutorial, is super helpful!
When i try to uppload my animated emote for twitch it says that its to much frames ?
omg, I'm so confused. My after effects doesn't look like that at all, I automatically get a black background. Any tutorial on how to set it up like this?
OH. IT WAS PHOTOSHOOOP. But my thingie isn't purple like that and like,.. I can't make the timeline shorter?
solved THAT one (needed to be on a layer, not a folder). But now I've done the first steps but no animations triggers...
Thanks !
honestly this tutorial caused me such a headache because so many things weren't specified
How do you export this? he says save as legacy but I dont see that option on PS
When I press play my layers go pixelated the. Return to normal? Any ideas

How to transform the animated emote to 112*112 after editing?
When you go to export the emote and save for web, there should be a setting at the bottom of the screen that allows you to change the size!

i wanna learn to do this stuff but i'm too lazy.
i feel like i keep missing a step :(
i am an affiliate and i do NOT have the option to add animated emotes
you have to unlock some kind of achievement for that. yesterday it popped up in my notifications
Someone please help I need to figure out how to make the WIGGLE emote animation
I don’t have photoshop and instead use Autodesk Sketchbook… RIP.

Do this for free.....but get Photoshop first. lol
for "free"
yes, totally FOR FREE. But first you need some emotes made by others, which you pay for and this mega expensive program called Photoshop :D
@@latenightgroove this is a bitt odd lmao, forgot about this comment, and funny enough.. now i do graphic design for work
