What's more impressive is that it gave him confidence in his technical abilities. He did a drag back edge of the box vs Holland in Euro 96 that he would never have done before he went to Italy. The move was definitely good for him.

Huge respect for Ince and McManaman for going abroad and actually learning a new language. It’s a big cultural problem for the British in general that they are too ignorant to learn a foreign language and expect everyone to bend over backwards for them. It’s also been negative for the English national team as players won’t move and learn a new way of playing because they don’t want to leave their mates in the pub.

I’d argue the likes of Ajax and Dortmund are very patient with young players because they want them to do well. Think it’s more a case of they HAVE to give them time because they don’t have endless resources to sign loads of players like teams in the Premiership.

With the amount of money Ajax regularly make they can definitely afford to make big signings but they have a proud philosophy which is very sustainable and gives them a famous identity. After all if they weren't producing good enough players then they'd sign players. After last season's shocking display in Europe they actually bought established big players this summer like Tadic and Daley Blind.

When he called himself "The Guvnor" Fergie knew he was getting too big for his boots and decided to get rid of him. At that time NO player was bigger than then team and that included Ince who in my opinion wasn't the best central midfielder United had. He wasn't a major loss to the team as Scholes came in to partner the real guvnor in central midfield called Roy Keane and United won the double again even though Ince was sold along with Kanchelskis and Hughes. Fergie knew what he was doing and it proved right.

Being italian I Can say that he was a really good player! He started slow, then he improved a lot during the first season and was one of the best midfielders in Italy. Never understood why he went back (family reasons? Cmonnn). He probably should have stayed (not that I gived a f…., being a supporter of another team)

Paul Ince in his prime for Manchester United was a great player. He was our best player during the 1993 title winning season. He did well for England too. When he celebrated after signing for Liverpool and scoring against us, I lost a lot of respect for him, unfortunately, but I’m a forgiving sort. May have been listed as one of the all time greats if he had stayed and not played for Liverpool. Bless him.

  • @rexmedorum

they misunderstand Ajax. It's not just ok, but it is a requirement. Selling players produced through the academy for big money is an essential part of their business strategy and key to their financial survival and ability to be (relatively) competitive from a small league with little TV money. To be able to do this they do need to produce assets (players) to sell though.
