Thank you so much for this video Toasty Bros!!! I just ordered one of these myself from PCSP on Ebay, I went with the W-2145/no ram/hdd/os one since I had a higher budget and the clock speeds are the same as the 2135. The cpu won't bottleneck too much at 1080p, but I'm planning on trying 1440p out since it diminishes all of the bottleneck for games. I'll update this comment when I get everything and try it out!! Edit: Just got my p520 and it works flawlessly!! Will definitely be my daily driver. And yes, I liked my own comment.
I just bought the W-2133 P520 with 16gb Ram and a 512GB SSD. Combined with the RX6600 I bought a few weeks ago, this will become my main media server/video editing/light gaming machine. One machine to rule them all.
As someone else mentioned, these systems would benefit from getting at least 4 sticks of RAM since these old Xeons support 4 memory channels. They aren't capable of using fast modules so having more channels utilized more than makes up for that.
I know very little about building computers but I have this same setup; CPU: Intel Xeon W-2135 (6 cores, 12 threads, 4.5GHz boost) RAM: 16GBs(2×8GB) DDR4 8GB 1Rx8 PC4 - 2666V Storage: 512GB Samsung NVME drive + 1TB Samsung 2.5" SATA HDD GPU: Powercolor Fighter AMD Radeon RX6600 8GB Do you think I would benefit by getting 2 more sticks of the same ram that’s in it to make it 32g total, quad channel ? It would cost me about $30 to do. This is my only, do it all computer..game,edit photo/video,general home/work tasks Thanks!
Thanks for the discount code, a P520 with a xeon 2135 without ram/hd was $137 shipped. Picking up memory, gpu and storage was cheaper from amazon than using their custom builder.
I bought a P520 and it would not take Windows 11 from the thumb drive, it said the computer was not compatible. I had to load windows 10, but once I updated drivers from Lenovo and updated Windows 10 it finally said it was compatible for the windows 11 upgrade. Just wanted to put this out there if someone runs into the same issue. Plus you can buy Windows 10 Cheaper and upgrade to Windows 11 free.

Love the video on the P520 as I ironically picked one up for my son a couple of weeks ago. Is there any chance you can do a follow up video on adding a better RGB CPU cooler and fans! My son may not appreciate the raw performance of the PC but if I can make it look cooler, I know he would appreciate it😅
in my experience with lenovo systems. the motherboard most likely has a windows license attached to it. so, just dl windows and choose "no license key" during the install....activated!
Is there a guide you guys did on that transition between "fully assembled hardware" and "gaming" How do I get windows installed? Thumb drive? Do I update the bios? Etc
What GPU is good choice for this if you run 4k - so this w-2135 does not bottleneck too bad. Please note that I still use GTX1070 with i7-920 to play 4k. Don't care about frame rate (for me 30 is playable). Mostly upgrading to get Win11.
i7 from 16 years ago paired with a upper mid range card made 8 years ago. Horrible combo. Upgrade your CPU, not even for the gpu, just for performance. Your cpu is from the dinosaur ages.
I went with the 2135, 4x8 2666, nothing else (or cheapest required) and pC was $243.93. Added PNY GS1030 NVME Gen 3 1TB (new amazon) $54.99, and a Surallow RTX 2060 Super 8GB (new amazon) $239. Total was $538 before tax so right under $600 after. I get 1 TB storage, quad channel faster ram, better processor, comparable GPU (I’m weird, I don’t like running Gen 4 x8 PCIE cards on Gen 3, at least the 2060 super is Gen 3 x16 like the system). Used I could see the GPU being $50 less but I feel like this is good build for $600 or less.

I would have been interested to see fortnite in dx12 mode. I find it better using multiple cpu cores than performance mode, and I wonder if with the xeon if that would boost performance or not. Might just shuffle the bottleneck around and perform the same or worse.

I'm considering a budget friendly ($400) gaming pc, with the option for upgrades. I've been a console gamer since the late 70's. I like war games and sports games. I also do a lot of video editing for various social media platforms. Do you guys have any suggestions or recommendations on a pc that will fit that budget? I currently do all my editing on a early 2015 MacBook Pro 13 with IMovie.
Need a hdd too, 99% of games it works fine, only a few that require faster. Specially if you want your whole library on your pc, get a 8tb or 16tb or higher and a 4tb nvme ssd and a 2tb nvme for your c drive would be a solid choice.
BTW you can do 4K on Fortnite with medium texture and DX12 graphics settings with this same build. I have mine limited to 60FPS but am still experimenting.
Please i need advice ! I really want to upgrade my build... Currently i'm using a Z370 Ds3h motherboard with a i5 8500T with a gtx 1650 And on this motherboard i can't go higher than 9900k for the cpu I want to upgrade for a budget build thats better than this and can play triple A with no problem to go at low everytime Can someone help me ?
It's about as powerful as an RX 6650 XT but also has AV1 support. If that's not something you care about, you could probably instead get the 6650 XT or 6600 XT for less money with similar gaming performance.
I've looked into doing this many times before, and I've had two different friends build a few of these with mixed results. Most common issue, components get too hot in a case that does not support strong positive pressure. The fear is suddenly u find yourself just holding a $250 GPU and whatever parts you can strip. Anyway to get good thermal performance in those rigs?
@@4EVER_KlNG I actually saw a guy on Reddit used a pair of pliers to remove the front fans mounting brackets. Then he removed the front server fan and carefully zip tied two 120mm RGB fans tightly up against the front of the case and they fit well. Then he placed another 120mm on top of the PSU pointed up and next to that he placed the old 80mm server fan that used to be up front, again pointed up to blow air against the GPU and the CPU heat sink and rear exhaust. He had the same CPU I opted for which is the W-2145, 8 core -16 and paired it with a RTX 3090. Which seems crazy, like it would bottleneck like hell, but he told me while there is some bottlenecking in certain titles, for the most part he gets excellent performance up to 4K. Which I think is pretty insane. I plan to pair mine with a GTX 1080 Ti. As it came out at nearly the exact time as this PC. And I definitely plan on copying his thermal suggests. I ordered a 3 pack of thermaltake RGB fans on amazon for $12. See how that goes.
@@4EVER_KlNG If you Google "P520 case fans headers reddit," you should get a link to who I was talking about. But I should note, I also wanted to try my hand at making a good jank with this system and I'm currently waiting for pcserver to open again to send everything back. I got sold a very bad unit in poor condition. Good thing is I went through eBay as a middleman. Bad thing is I sent $550 on components to make this build work. $300 for the unit + w2145 (8 core @ 3.70) +4x8gbs=32gbs ddr4 @2666, then $170 for a used GTX 1080 Ti FE (I forgot how poor the thermals of those blower cards were), then accessories, wifi card 6e + Bluetooth, extra case fans, it crept up. And now I realize that I could replicate performance for either slightly less or equal to in price. This is an issue for me because I saw potential and everyone having a great time, looking like this was a very simple solution to budget gaming, and then taking action before doing research or even basic math in my head. Also I think I made a poor choice on my GPU, however the 1080 Ti on paper is pretty perfect for this model, giving they all released at the same time in 2017. But see I was thinking about silly stuff like that and not what is really important, which is; "is any of this shit worth it?"
if i just built a gaming pc and i currently have 16 gb ddr4 ram, can i just add one more stick of 8 gb ddr4 for a total of 24 gb? and does it matter what ram slot it goes in?
So here’s a question that I never see anyone talk about. What do I have to do to get stable FPS? I play apex legends with a rtx3060 and my frames are high but not consistent, most times I’ll have 120-200 and sometimes I’ll have as low as 97. And I just really want 120 constantly is there anything I can do?

The cpu won't bottleneck too much at 1080p, but I'm planning on trying 1440p out since it diminishes all of the bottleneck for games. I'll update this comment when I get everything and try it out!! Edit: Just got my p520 and it works flawlessly!! Will definitely be my daily driver. And yes, I liked my own comment.
I just bought the W-2133 P520 with 16gb Ram and a 512GB SSD. Combined with the RX6600 I bought a few weeks ago, this will become my main media server/video editing/light gaming machine. One machine to rule them all.
great set up! pretty much mine exactly!
As someone else mentioned, these systems would benefit from getting at least 4 sticks of RAM since these old Xeons support 4 memory channels. They aren't capable of using fast modules so having more channels utilized more than makes up for that.
The 2235 can support upto 2900mhz and that's about all you get out of them.
I know very little about building computers but I have this same setup;
CPU: Intel Xeon W-2135 (6 cores, 12 threads,
4.5GHz boost)
RAM: 16GBs(2×8GB) DDR4 8GB 1Rx8 PC4 - 2666V
Storage: 512GB Samsung NVME drive + 1TB Samsung 2.5" SATA HDD
GPU: Powercolor Fighter AMD Radeon RX6600 8GB
Do you think I would benefit by getting 2 more sticks of the same ram that’s in it to make it 32g total, quad channel ? It would cost me about $30 to do. This is my only, do it all computer..game,edit photo/video,general home/work tasks
Thanks!
@@thestory8 It won't benefit _all_ applications, but it should help in many, especially games.
@@thestory8 quad channel would be very nice and help the computer reach it full potential.

I have this exact pc. I have an rx 580. I'm going to upgrade soon, but it works great as is.
same, just before i upgraded to the RX 6600 just a few days ago.... the 580 was great tho, no complaints, loved the gaming set up
Thanks for the discount code, a P520 with a xeon 2135 without ram/hd was $137 shipped. Picking up memory, gpu and storage was cheaper from amazon than using their custom builder.
I bought a few months prior to you. I didn't know you could get it without the ram. I paid $191 with code and 16gb ram. Still not bad though
It has only been 11 hours since the upload, but for me the lowest GPU option for me is the Nvidia Quadro NVS 510 for $19.99 which makes it go to $209
I bought a P520 and it would not take Windows 11 from the thumb drive, it said the computer was not compatible.
Sorry to hear that. I wonder why? I was able to install Windows 11 directly on my P520 without any issue.
@@wishbone20t I was confused as well. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to run 11 at first. I went to Lenovo and put in my serial number and it had an update, once I did that I was good to go.

Yep, great deal!
Great video guys! You have inspired me to do my own p520 build as well as start creating my own content so I appreciate all you do! Keep up the good work
Love the video on the P520 as I ironically picked one up for my son a couple of weeks ago. Is there any chance you can do a follow up video on adding a better RGB CPU cooler and fans! My son may not appreciate the raw performance of the PC but if I can make it look cooler, I know he would appreciate it😅
I love how they raised the prices of every item you recommend...
in my experience with lenovo systems. the motherboard most likely has a windows license attached to it. so, just dl windows and choose "no license key" during the install....activated!
Do you know if these came with Windows 10 pro or home?
Just picked this up... I'm excited... Thank you for the code
Is there a guide you guys did on that transition between "fully assembled hardware" and "gaming"
How do I get windows installed? Thumb drive? Do I update the bios? Etc
there's tons of tutorial for installing windows but for the short answer : no you don't need to update BIOS to install windows
My fiance loves that i bought her a Lenovo P520 to use. :) Such a great cheap build.
@@trimidsmod6391 CPU is not bottlenecking at 4k.I7-920 will have 60% utilization and GPU will be pegged at 90 to 100%.

@@Kagamiyagiven the fact that 4K most of the load is on the GPU probably works fine
Read my mind was about to ask about what parts were good to upgrade this pc with. Just picked one up fairly cheap 😊
If you installed 4 matched memory chips to allow quad channel access it would pick up 10-25%.

Great video
I would have been interested to see fortnite in dx12 mode. I find it better using multiple cpu cores than performance mode, and I wonder if with the xeon if that would boost performance or not. Might just shuffle the bottleneck around and perform the same or worse.
Would love to do this but build but it'd be more around €600 for me in Ireland. Sucks to not be in the US and have such luxuries such as Micro Centre and what not.😢

This platform is still great!
Yo can Yous try out the KUDAN LVL 6 from Radium pcs. Please and thank you I really want it but there’s no vids about it.😊
Nice video! What other GPUs can you use with it? Could it take a 4070?

BTW you can do 4K on Fortnite with medium texture and DX12 graphics settings with this same build. I have mine limited to 60FPS but am still experimenting.
how would streaming on platforms such as twitch be on the pc? do you think it would be able to perform still?
How many hz should my monitor be to fit this pc?

Btw. Love the Peter Griffin with BriDog backpack lol 😂
@Toasty Bros ; how was the power consumption on this build while gaming? I've been looking into the P520 for a project.
Might do this for my son to get him into PCs, will getting a rx 7600 instead make any difference?
It's about as powerful as an RX 6650 XT but also has AV1 support. If that's not something you care about, you could probably instead get the 6650 XT or 6600 XT for less money with similar gaming performance.
I've looked into doing this many times before, and I've had two different friends build a few of these with mixed results. Most common issue, components get too hot in a case that does not support strong positive pressure.
The fear is suddenly u find yourself just holding a $250 GPU and whatever parts you can strip. Anyway to get good thermal performance in those rigs?
Noctua makes a cooler that’s low profile and is compatible with this socket… should help out
@@4EVER_KlNG I actually saw a guy on Reddit used a pair of pliers to remove the front fans mounting brackets.
@@bizbarley74 bro I might try this, got a link?
So I found one of these systems with a W-2145. Added two TB nvme drives, 32GB of ram, 5700xt and this baby screams.
Man the p520 used markets keeps getting bumped from these videos 😂
Why did you have to twisted the last two on 6+2 connector before connecting it to GPU?
6:25 “Hot Swap” means you can swap the power supply, while the power is on. You cannot do that if you only have one power supply.
