Is THIS the new CONSOLE Killer?! Lenovo Thinkstation P520 + RTX 4060

  • For less than $500 the Lenovo Thinkstation P520 plus the RTX 4060 is a budget beast! For $190 I purchased a Lenovo Thinkstation P520 from Ebay and it came with an Intel Xeon W-2135 CPU, 16GB RAM, a 512GB m.2 NVMe SSD and a 900 watt power supply. Plus there are multiple power cables, PCIe lanes, m.2 and RAM slots for further upgrades. With Nvidia's RTX 4060 non ti variant coming at $299 MSRP, the combination of this hardware is less than the cost of an Xbox Series X or a Playstation 5! With the quality and performance of the latest gen consoles this is a tough budget PC to beat.

    Nice video! As azrael mentioned, the compression on this video is very high. When you capture footage, or export your edits, try to crank up your bitrate a bit. TH-cam automatically compresses videos when uploaded, so low bitrate source footage exponentially gets worse.

    • @PetesParts16
      @PetesParts16  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the feedback. Bitrate was high at time of recording, but I was transferring files between devices and editing programs so something probably got lost in the middle. Still working on this whole editing thing!

    Hey man I know you just started and the videos are absolutely awesome! I noticed a lot heavy compression in the gameplay and not too sure if that is TH-cam's fault. If you check the Nvidia Shadowplay settings, you should be able to tweak the bitrate of the recordings. Hope this helps!

      Just the gameplay portions? I did record using OBS at a 50000 bitrate, but was transferring files back and forth from devices and different editing programs which probably caused it. Thanks for the feedback!

    I have the exact same P520, and I've added around 96GB of ram and P1000 Nvidia pass through to my ESxi Hypervisor. I ran about 12 VM's simultaneously. One is beefed up to 32GB since it ran all docker containers.
    I would love to install a newer model such as NVidia 4060 or 4070, but my only concern isn't PCIE 3 negate most of of what the newer GPU models require? All these new GPU need at least a PCie4.

    W-2135 P520 with 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, 1080 ti, added an extra 92mm, 80mm and 40mm noctura fans along with the stock fans. I replaced the CPU cooler with a 110mm Thermalright silver soul and added a second fan on it. Fits fine with the dual fan BUT you need to remove the square handle latch cover on the inside of the door paneI. I completely agree, I find the sweet spot to be the w2135 with the rx 6600 for great 1080p and sometimes 1440p
      Very little bottleneck, its less than 2%. You can get the rx 6600 new for $190 and as low as $150

      YES but it will still bottleneck in CPU intensive games like RE4 Remake, some stuttering will occur and the GPU will still be stuck at 60% at max. So I just recommend you to make a new PC if you're tight on cash this can work for now but not in the future at all.

      Mine didn’t come with WiFi so I am using Ethernet, but you could add a WiFi card. If you wanted to get a barebones P520 and put all of your own components in you could, but for the price it made more sense for me to get one with a CPU, RAM and an SSD already installed. I use a 4060 in my P710 with dual Xeon e5-2650 v4 's (had a 2060 in it before that). Rock solid gaming system. Compared to my other system which is en i7-12700 I can tell you that there is almost no difference between pcie3 and a pcie4 system. The only downside is that the P710 is one power hungry system. Even a 4060ti is ok in those configs. The gpu is just not bottlenecked. stay away from a 4090 though, there you need a more recent system. the 4090 will go to about 80 percent.

      Exactly though the W-2135 (which is less powerful in theory than the 2650) he has in the video is stuck at 40-60% the whole time. I wouldn't really suggest putting in a high end GPU in these Lenovos because they WILL bottleneck and even though you get 60-80 FPS from the GPU carrying it will stutter sometimes which can be distracting plus the 4060 in this is being held back hard even if it has a lousy 8 GB VRAM.

    Personally I don't really like pre-builts mostly because they lock the bios and it's not very future proof at all. Especially Xeon processors since they will have bottleneck, seeing your benchmarks just proves that it will bottleneck the heck out of the 4060. Not to mention the 900 W 2017 PSU is getting more old each day and will just not turn on soon.

    • @gametime2473
      @gametime2473 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My W-2145 drives my 3070Ti no problem. I would HIGHLY doubt that his 2135 would bottleneck a 4060. These CPUs are quite powerful still. Even the 6 core w-2135 is only about 30% slower than a 13900k in most games. You need a really fast GPU to notice the difference or be running very low settings at 1080p

      @@Spencerwalker21 You will have to look that one up. I haven't used a GPU with 3 8 pins before. I am using a 3070ti. My 2145 xeon isn't bottlenecking my 3070ti but might bottleneck your 4080 at 1080p. That probably won't matter much since you don't buy a 4080 to play games at 1080p anyway. My 3070ti pushes my CPU to about 60% usage maximum. Usually it's hovering around 30% though. I game at 1080p which taxes the CPU most for reference.
