6:28 My god! I used to use this pencil in school for the longest time. I found it on the carpet and thought it looked nice so I picked it up and started using it for like a year. Finally someone else who has it.
New subscriber from Norway here. Great video, and I love your channel. I used to have pencil blog myself back in the day (around 2006 or so), and understand that we pencil fanatics belong to a rather small community world wide. That's why we need great TH-cam channels like this one. Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks Rusty. I was actually surprised to see the interest in pencils when I published my first pencil rant 1.5 years ago (Derwent Onyx). The interest and comments like yours motivates me to keep them coming!
This brought back memories! I use to use a few of those pencils when I was in high school and college. I had a pack of the Mirado Black Warrior pencils in high school. I wish I still had one. I also remember finding a used Staedtler Rally on the ground in college. I fell in love with it at first use! lol! I still have that one and the other four I bought the following year.
Seems like the only "top brand" pencil you lack in your collection is the Staedtler Mars Lumograph. You ever tried those? They are considered the top of the line pencil from Staedtler.
Rusty Galloway I have a full set of those and use them often for my drawings. My collection box holds pencils for writing and not drawing. See videos on drawing pencils that I have. Thanks for subscribing!
I remember using the Faber castell gold range which was striped blue and gold and they were excellent .The stablio swan range is also good which I notice you didn’t have.
Curious if you’ve ever checked to see which pencils have ferrous ferrules. I like to have a pencil readily at hand in my garage/workshop, I stick them to the side of machines/etc with little neodymium disc magnets; so far the General Cedar Pointe 333 is the only pencil I’ve tried with a ferrous ferrule, so that’s what I’m using for the most part. I’m sure there are others but I haven’t come across them yet.
Interesting. So you like to have your pencils stick to the side of your machine. I can see how that would be handy. And to answer your question, the answer is 'no', I have never tested to see if they are attracted to magnets. I think I'll look into that. Great suggestion. Thanks.
In the past, Ticonderogas sold in Canada were manufactured completely in Canada, being available from 4H to 2B Now we just have the ones made in China/Mexico ranging from 2H to B.
hi rix, i would love to see a newer video of your pencil collection 😊 im always on the search for the „perfect“ black and im always curious what other people use.
@@RixCanDoit okay thank you. may you tell me please how would you compare the kimberly 9xxb? i cant get my hands on it here in europe... is it worth pay a extremly high price for it? or is it like any other for example staedtler?
Thank you for your reviews. I have a pencil fetish and I have seen some of your videos multiple times. You have mentioned it before. Its not in this video. I hought it was also worth mentioning the USA Gold. I feel to that, the way you feel about the Norica and Apsara Platinum, and its made in the US! I enjoy your close up shots with your palm in the backgroud. My Helix A5 came in the mail today. Best wishes to your art work and sound reviews.
Being a novice, but a pretty fast moving one, it seems that soft pencils leave a light impression, but at the same time, a soft lead can leave a lot of lead, thus be a dark pencil. I think the 602 is a hard lead but one that leaves a lot of lead on the paper. Am I getting this right?
Witches as pencils best in my opinion? Nope. I think it is best we stick to graphite and let those witches do what they do best... Brincadeirinha, claro. O meu favorito são os lápis Blackwing.
There is a way, but I don't have one right now. Don't expect this pencil to be anything special. Most likely it's just a Mirado Classic. For Papermate, I prefer the Mirado Black Warrior.
I noticed my helix a5 pencil sharpener eats up my Musgrave scoring 100s. It seems as if the sharpener doesn't know when to stop on that pencil. Pretty weird huh
Thanks Rix!!!! :D Nice video bud, You should add the videos of the pencils you're showing with clickable links! I bet it would get you more views! Always love seeing other pencil enthusiasts collections!!
Hey Rix, I'm legally blind and need some additional info on number 2 a.k.a. HB pencils, specifically which ones are the darkest. I'm using the Dixon Ticonderoga #2 HB from China and like them but was wondering if Mitsubishi or black warrior or norica might be better? I'm also thinking of getting the blackwing line or the BW 602 line but not sure if that's overkill. I'm focusing more on which is DARKEST rather than looks or how smooth it writes. What do you recommend and why? FYI I'm looking at Mitsubishi s 9800 and 9850 line
If you are only looking for the darkest HB pencil, which theoretically all HB's should be the same (but they are not), perhaps the Aspara Platinum or the Norica. The Blackwing is not a HB pencil, but it is one of the darkest writing pencils. So if you want to move off the HB, there are darker pencils you can use. But limited to just HB pencils, the above named should do.
I am looking for number 2 pencils which seems to be called HB now. I want the pencils to be more gersatile than just drawing. I'm looking for a pencil that will write dark more than anything and still be recognized as a number 2 so I can use it for test taking. Also what about Black warriors? Aren't they number 2? Lastly what would you consider the palomino s if not HB? What would you cobsider the 602, what about the pearl? Oh, and have you ever tried the paper mate mongol line of pencils comingout of Venezuela? They look similar to the EF Mongols but I'm not sure if it's worth the buy. If you never rated them let me know cause I'm thinking of buying a batch and I wouldn't mind sending you a few to get your oponion.
Cool, collection. I noticed that most of your pencils are either round or hexagon. Have you tried the triangular shaped ones? What do you think about those type of pencils?
In the US, it's not that common, but I see it pretty frequent in Asia. I can't seem to find them online, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon them in small shops in HK. I like the shape and hold. I was curious what you thought about them.

What do you use them for? A 6B pencil is way too soft for writing purposes, as you'll be sharpening them every few words. So are you drawing with them?
Very nice channel. Recently I found your channel looking for reviews on the Blackwing Pearl, but I've been obsessed. Question, were do you subscribe for the Blackwing Volumes? I've been wanting to get a Blackwing 24, but all the pages I visit are out of stock. I searched Ebay, but it's too expensive. Are you willing to sell me a Blackwing 24 yourself?
These 'Volumes' Blackwings are meant to be 'limited editions'. This makes them valuable and collectors items. So if you aren't subscribed and they sell out, you are stuck having to hunt down someone who will want to make a good profit on them to sell to you. Here is where you subscribe: blackwing602.com/product/blackwing-volumes-subscription/

RixCanDoit Hello there I've been a frequent viewer of your videos lately, nice channel. I'm trying to find a good buy on HB pencils or maybe even 2b, I don't use the different degrees on most pencils sets and I notice the single sets of HB (12 count )are more expensive but I use HB more than the rest and I don't want multiple degrees of pencils laying around, I'm currently using Dixon Ticonderoga, so what would you recommend? Thanks.:-)
Well, there are not 10,000 different pencils in existence. But if you are saying you have 10,000 pencils total rather than 10,000 different one, then that's another thing. In the video the box you see is for ONE of each type of pencil I have REVIEWED on video. It does not take into account the thousands of pencils (boxes and boxes) that I have or the pencils that I have yet to review but are in a box waiting for review. Just saying... ;-b

アメリカの鉛筆はどれも魅力的ですね

私の謙虚な意見では、日本の鉛筆はアメリカの鉛筆よりも品質が高い.
Round pencils used to be favoured by shorthand writers because they were more comfortable to hold when used for long periods.
I like how they feel also.

The 602 is certainly not a hard lead. It requires less sharpening than the balanced and soft, but is smoother than most hard lead pencils.
