Great video! I've been using the Blackwing Pearl for over six years. Very balanced and smooth. As a fall back because Blackwing are very pricey, I also use Mitsubishi pencils. It's a good value. Side note > I too use the KUM sharpener. $25 - Amazon.
I recently discovered the blackwings. I have ordered the 602, matte, natural and the volume 42 with is the same as the Pearl I believe. I’m anxiously awaiting them to arrive. Nice review.
I don't know if it is true or not, but I heard Blackwing Pearl is just like a quality regular 3B pencil. And 602 is 2B from any other quality brand, and Blackwing is 4B.

In my opinion about it is depends on what is the people’s Budget is not everyone might not be able to afford the black wing 601 or 602 pencils. Another thing that I think about it is like you that those pencils are smoother to write with but if you have to write something long for an example a sa or a long letter some people might have to use a hb # 2 pencil ✏️.

I just wish the Blackwing Pearl had better point retention. I'm trying to fall in love with all the Blackwing pencils, but my go to pencils are still Chinese made cedar Dixon Ticonderoga pencils. I wish you would review new cedar Ticonderoga pencils. I'd like to see what you think of them.

This has been very helpful. I do find the smoothness appealing and quieter. But you have intrigued me and my husband who writes a lot to try the others. Thanks so much for your time in making this video. We both have enjoyed you much. Hint: Pull your close-ups a little further from the camera on the very close-ups. Too close is all blur.

Being the manufacturer of Palomino's leads Japanese, and given the fact that the best manufacturers of pencils in Japan are Mitsubishi and Tombow, I wonder which one of these actually is the manufacturer. 2. Being both Mitsubishi and Tombow pencils much cheaper, I wonder why the hell should I burn my money with Palomino when their leads are virtually the same and their wooden cases not necessarily better either.
Logical reasoning. I think in part the price difference is in the 'style'. You have the unique flat ferrule with replaceable flat erasers, unique paint designs and their respective stories. When I write with a Blackwing compared to a standard Mitsubishi or Tombow, I get a completely different experience and joy out of writing. Perhaps it is mental, perhaps not. But it just feels so much nicer.
There is about 20% more pencil length than a Hi uni or tomobow, also consider the eraser costs a $1.15 on its own so the value is there. They are just more suited to 'on the go.' sketching and note taking. If your working at home your generally using better erasers.. Though the blackwing erasors when trimmed are still great for hair strand highlights. I'll also add the pearl has my favorite lead, but my least favorite casing. The natural is excellent, while the pearl just feels like the same gloss coating as the Mitsu-bishi.
I do agree with you. Although it's pricey. it's not outrageous pricey. I want to try them someday and use them on special occasions. I do prefer to use workhorse pencils on a daily basis like Mitsubishi and tombow, etc
If you use up a blackwing pencil before the eraser take the eraser off for another time unless it's to a point you have quite a stash and dont need to collect more just a thought

Is the end of your pencil sharpener a rectangular shape or round?i have a sharpener with two openings of different sizes but there is no brand name on it and it came with a pencil kit with kneaded eraser and white vinyl eraser with both graphite and charcoal pencils. Really nice kit

As to your question: I'd say any pencil that meets your expectation is the best drawing pencil.
Blackwing Pencils shall issue a graded set for technicians and artists. And, create a set that is uncompromising to other brands we are familiar. A hardness and darkness all its own. A hardness in maybe two options that can be differentiated with pressure. A darkness parallel with the ladder… .🧑🎨♾️✍️♾️🙂
anyone else bugged by him writing his 'i' in Blackwing the first time (8:00) in an upward stroke, but in the next line he writes the 'i' in Blackwing in a downward slope?
I notice blackwing pencils aren't meant for heavy travel lol I took my 10001 to work and a week later the gold finish came off the writing on it and it doesn't look so good I have to find a blackwing pencil case
Left on a deserted island with one chair one table a ream of paper and the choice of only one pencil....I would choose.... a pencil that requires a sharpener that I do not have. Pick your eight sentences carefully before you hit the wood.

Man Dragon I don't really have the ability to judge Russian writing so I can't speak on that. His actual cursive is nice. I was talking about how he's always switching back and forth from cursive and print lol.
Not difficult at all to answer. It's not the brand. At least not for me. It's the pencil itself. The graphite is smooth, dark. When I write with it, it is a real pleasure. Then this graphite is wrapped in a very nice paint job, has what I consider the best ferrule/eraser setup (which is replaceable, unique among pencils), and you have a really great pencil! Sure I have other pencils that write smooth, dark and even cheaper. But they don't provide me with the same degree of enjoyment as a complete package as the Blackwings do. At this point, you can then throw in the history and the unique collectible variations they have been releasing as a big bonus.
Great video! I use fountain pen everyday, but you make me rethink writing with these Blackwing pencils :D

I once heard that the thriller writer, Daniel Di Silva, writes all his first drafts using the Blackwing pencil.

How do you like the new makeover of the pearl; gold font with white eraser? I like the black font and black eraser much better.

My favorite is the Tombow mono 2b. As good as blackwing.

What about the fragility of the finish? Mine chip off really easily.
I would contact Cal Cedar about it. I've never had that problem but if I were to receive a box with defective finish I'd ask for a replacement.
