Proline Vs Keene 4 inch dredge review

  • This video is not for Keene nor proline fanboys. I dig into each component of the dredges and discuss in depth the plusses and minus of both manufactures full size 4 inch dredges.
    There is no perfect dredge out there and there never will be one that is perfect for all situations, circumstances and people. The main point of this video is to get people thinking about what is important to them in the areas that they prospect and dredge. If you disagree with my thought process and how i rank each one please in the comment section layout what your thought process is for your differing opinion. I don't want people just defending their favorite brand just because that's the one they own. I want some good thought and retrospective put into it.
    I also tried to avoid discussing the recovery of each sluice, mainly because there is no hard actual data out there, everything is hearsay without true repeatable scientific testing to back it up when it comes to sluice recovery. What will affect your gold take more then anything else is the quality of ground you are dredging and how much time you put on the box. No system can capture gold if there isnt gold their in the ground. So get out there and focus on prospecting instead of focusing on which mat is better.
    Hope y'all enjoy the video and please like share and subscribe.

    Nope, not backpacking on welds. I am a machine shop quality inspector and welds are meticulously inspected for a reason. Great catch PG!

    Very controversial video , how long you been dredging ??? . ☠👍👍👍⛏💙 .both dredges have there pros n cons , personally I am Keene kind of pirate . Had the 2,3,and now the 4 ,the 3 stage Keene sluice in my humble opinion the best on the market for your bucks . Also this complex analysis leaves out one vital flaw ,who's on the nozzle??? and a skilled dredger knows plugs are user error ! .gold don't come easy and nor is dredging Arrrrrr well in ☠👍👍👍👍⛏💙

      Haha yes it is. And I’ve been dredging almost every weekend more or less since 2014. Using many different dredges from Keene, proline, pro-Mack, homemade ones. As I say in the video it will depend more on the ground your running hand your time on the nozzle more then anything in regards to how much gold you get! Thanks for watching!

      @@theprospectinggeologist4347 I've also used a proline 4 and home made dredges .I've been at this for a wee bit longer than you my friend and I'm in total agreement ,it all depends on the man on the nozzle,as too how much material can be moved . Going to be very interesting watching these videos you are planning on making. Arrrrrrrrrr from Scotland and the pirate dredger ☠👍⛏👍💙

    Sorry but the Keene is far better dredge. Finer adjustments, better at catching the finer gold with its three stage system. I have used both and will not buy the proline. I like the proline pump better.
    The main thing is to have a tachometer on your dredge engine so once your on the gold you can slow down the flow to fit your best situation!
    I had an older Keene and have just purchased a newer Keene. I haven’t had it in the water yet and I can’t remember exactly how I had my old Keene set up. I sold it in 2016. Lost my youngest son a few months later and it was very hard to buy another dredge!
    I live on the east coast.
    I went and pick up my new to me dredge last week and just took the more expensive stuff out of the crate it was shipped in. I still have a lot to do before I am ready for the water.

      Thanks for watching. I still prefer proline. They are built better and stronger from my experience. But both work well though and when buying on the used market it would come down to what’s available and price. I mainly prospect the east coast as well.

    Which one is easier to pack/hike into remote locations?

    • @theprospectinggeologist4347
      @theprospectinggeologist4347  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Keene is easier to break down into more pieces. Which could help with packing it way into the back country. But expect to have to make at least 6 trips to get it all in.

    Im torn because Proline being only a single stage sluice, Im kinda leaning towards keenes 3 stage. That being said i would like to know more about Prolines box, its wave classifier system because i think proline is over all is better it just depends on the capture rates vrs the 3 stage keene and at the end of the day i will be basing my desciion on used price and what it comes with. I think Id be happy with either dredge.

      I’ve run side my side with my proline and a Keene 3 stage and all I can say is that it matters more so how much material you move and bedrock you cover then it does which box you have.
      I’ve also done testing on my proline box using a sump system and the main box captured about 2 grams and the sump box had only maybe 10 to 20 micro colors in it. Not even enough to weigh, which if you calculate it out puts the capture rate well over 98% capture rate on the proline sluice box.
      But if your going used go with which ever you can find at the best price. But i do prefer proline and my buddy who use to run Keene has converted to proline as well and won’t be going back. Hope all this helps.

    What about the hookah system?😅

    • @theprospectinggeologist4347
      @theprospectinggeologist4347  ปีที่แล้ว

      For the most part both run similar or the same hookah systems. With the most common being the t-80 or the gast 263. Both Keene and proline use both those. As for keenes KAC compressor I can’t speak to. I’ve never even seen one in person yet lol.

      Nice! They are good sluice boxes, little heavy and take a bit to figure out but once you get them where they are running good they are awesome!..

    With very few modifications to reinforce the frame of the Keene dredge by adding a few brackets the Keene is easier to move
    I'm sure Keene improved by now.

    • @theprospectinggeologist4347
      @theprospectinggeologist4347  ปีที่แล้ว

      They’ve added them and the frames still bow out. Not sure how the Keene is easier to move. They are fairly equal in that regards.

    How about a Dahlke Dredge and/or Gold Grabber Dredge (Alan Trees).?

    • @theprospectinggeologist4347
      @theprospectinggeologist4347  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a dahlke micro 4B and have done a few videos on it. It really isn’t in the same category as a full size 4 inch dredge. As for gold grabber dredges you can’t get them anymore and they rarely pop up on the used market. I only have experience with the gold grabber 5 inch dredges.

    I did not hear gallons per hour or HP. PSI of water? Thanks for the video I learned a lot camera work of them out of the water looking at it would have helped.

    • @theprospectinggeologist4347
      @theprospectinggeologist4347  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Most 4 inch dredges are going to be using a 5.5 to 6.5 hp motor with Keene or proline pumps outputting 300 to 400 gpm depending on model of pump at about 40 to 50 psi I believe.
