    As a Greenhouse cultivator for nearly two decades, this video doesn't highlight longevity. Hats off to the ingenuity, and excellent craftsmanship. This peace is beautiful, and highly effective. It just won't be there in 10 years... for whatever it's worth. Love the content 👊🏼

      Thanks for your thoughts and for watching! We wanted a greenhouse that was aesthetically pleasing and relatively simple to build with the materials we had gifted to us. All in all we are very pleased with it through the first season. With a little TLC, it just may be there in 10 years!
      Stay tuned as we are starting a nee rammed earth greenhouse build that is certainly going to stand the test of time!

    • @joshh8833
      @joshh8833 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can you explain what would make it be there in 10 years?

    • @glorydazebotanicals2964
      @glorydazebotanicals2964 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @joshh8833 wood rots. Especially if it isn't treated wood. Anything touching the ground will eventually decompose/ break down, even galvanized steel. The more resilient your foundation is, the longer the overall structure will last. Castles made of sand will slip into the sea. Typically the arches are galvanized steel, dry packed with drain rock, or concrete with drainage systems in place, i.e. a stem walls and French drains. All in all, it's a matter of entropy. The more protected/treated the material that makes contact to the ground is, the longer it will last.
      But seriously, this is an absolutely beautiful build, an aesthetician masterpiece. I don't want to take from that. 🙏🏽

    • @allenboe5654
      @allenboe5654 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      As a grower for 30 years with wood structures. You’ll get twenty years out of this build and will have saved thousands. Don’t let the metal mafia stall you from building your dreams today.

      Just the thought of unwanted critters due to the foundation not being sealed tight is the reason it definitely wouldn’t happen for me. Actually I noticed it in the thumbnail and only clicked on the video to see if it was such a space under the door for a bear, rats, snakes etc…to crawl under. Yep it was true. 😮

    • @gary24752
      @gary24752 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thetielife It is tempered not heat resistant. The glass it good until about 470 degrees which is nothing when you compare it with the temperature of a blow torch. The thermal shock from cold water can also make it shatter. You are just lucky.

    I've seen a bit of dissing your vid because of free materials being a factor in the low cost. But the importance is the pattern and structure. Free toughed glass is rare, but a doubled hooptunnel skin would create a thermally better envelope. There's multiple ways of customising this build to each viewer's needs. Great job!

      Thanks for watching! The lower roof pieces of glass are attached with double sided tape fully on the 2 short sides. Glass panels are positively lapped as they are installed towards the top of the roof. “Z” clips also add additional support to the upper panels. We show this in more detail on our greenhouse series of videos. Hope this helps! Good luck with your project!

    $7.50 per square foot gets a like. You cannot beat free glazing.

    Well hello free glass, that alone would have run you at least double.

    What did you use between the panes of glass to keep rain from getting through?

    • @thetielife
      @thetielife  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The glass is overlapped by 2” on each piece. We also bent some aluminum flat stock to interlock the pieces overlapping. There are a couple videos of this build which go over this in more detail on our channel. Thanks for watching!

    Tempered glass will cost around $7K, so it's basically a $10K project.

    Turned out beautifully, lots of free materials out there on Craigslist and elsewhere, curious how you manhandled the glass panels into position?
    Guessing with tempered glass those are double the weight of an average sheet which would be huge heavy unmanageable unwieldy and challenging, suction cup grips? Four persons a sheet I'm guessing to get it safely into place with your arms extended, ugh. Well worth it though

      Thanks for watching! The glass is only 6mm thick and is comparable to the weight of a 3/4” sheet of plywood. Not terribly heavy but was definitely handled with care.

    Sure this video is great, but the Title is quite a bit misleading.

    How to build a greenhouse for under $3,000? Just get $2,500 + worth of glass for free from your neighbor! Just that easy!

      Thanks! We certainly scored on the glass! Our video title isn’t intended to be misleading. It was our first start to finish project video and we’ve received many comments about the “free glass”. Thanks for finding some humour in it!

    ❤❤❤. But why such a huge opening under the door to let in critters?

    • @thetielife
      @thetielife  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We salvaged the door from a demolition of a house. It had to be modified for fitting in this greenhouse. There is chicken wire attached on the bottom to keep larger critters out. Thanks for watching!!
