Amazing place - the loo's are better than most offices. Thank's for a very interesting tour of some splendid Victorial municipal architecture.

Absolutely stunning building! Massive respect to the team of cleaning staff for their great care and attention... they've kept it looking beautiful. What a fascinating job that must be. Thank you Darren for taking us inside with you. Amazing video 😊❤

Great video as always. One of my last projects with Education Bradford as it was by then in 2001 was to put together a couple of BBC Micro computer systems, along with the external floppy disc drives (5 1/4 in, not the now rarely seen 3.5in discs) and monitors (Microvitec Cub ones of course, they were based just half a mile away from City Hall and their HQ ended up been the home of Education Bradford and is now a school). These BBC based systems were to drive the bells when playing tunes. Times move on, but I can proudly say I had my little part to play in keeping them going.

Beautiful old building Darren thanks for sharing. I remember those old ring phones it took ages to dial a number especially if it had a long dialling code. Sir Kenneth Grange designer of the “HST” train and what a fabulous design it was too👏🏻

Fantastic couple of videos. I've had a few tours of Bradford city hall (first one was in the 90s on a school trip) and you showed some rooms I haven't seen which makes me happy. I was told of the ghosts that are said to haunt the building on one tour.
I've also toured Dewsbury Town Hall and was very surprised when we were allowed up the clock tower.
With your love of old toilets you need to get to John Rylands Library in Manchester and visit the toilets down the stairs near the original main entrance.

I reckon the portrait of the old fellow with the yellow tie about 18'23" will be J B Priestley (I know that he was only kidding when he said Peter Sallis). He was from Bradford or thereabouts and popular for his Yorkshireness (and books and broadcasts and stuff).

14:14 Just in case we have any budding Latin scholars here, the motto in the stained glass of the "massive door" is a popular one.
    labor omnia vincit
    literally means
    work conquers all
and is from that ol' fella Virgil.
A more approachable translation would be something along the lines of
Keep at it and you'll win out in the end sonshine.

When I was a little kid like 6/7 years old in like 1981 my dad was a councillor and I spent every Saturday running wild round that town hall. My sister and I used to go in the clock tower - I don’t know how far up. But you could basically look down the shaft. To a glass roof. I used to wee - obviously - down that shaft. But my main recollection is walking around a ledge to go into a bathroom. Anyway I’m now gonna watch this video and see if any of that is covered or any other memories come back.
Just watched it. So I’ve been up that staircase. It wasn’t metal back in the day it was wood. I’ve been above that partitions which wasn’t there in the 80s and you could go further up and believe it or not there is a toilet up there.

Find out about the play that was performed in the council chamber, my daughter took part in it. It was based on people against a specific trans Atlantic trade agreement. It was around 2015 and called ‘We’re not stupid’.
It was really good and us the audience took part, that last performance was filmed, I was sat to the bottom left in front of the mayors seat
The whole audience wore balaclavas and they gave us things to bang, pan lids and wooden spoons lol

Easy to find out - It's just 1 of 1000's of *Yorkshire* productions missing from *IMDB,* however I'm mainly busy updating the 17,000+ incomplete *Yorkshire* productions already there, plus more random stuff.
It's called *The Deal Versus the People,* can be found on *Common Wealth* channel, stars people like *T Kid* (who changed his rap name to *Lucky Looch* around 5 years ago for some reason, even though there was already a rapper with that name), and was filmed by filmmaker *Jack King.*

one thing I saw in the video in the banqueting suit on the left wall of the lord mayor board is a continuation of the list. That's why the first list stops at 1995 probably because of symmetry and space.

See if you can get to look in the court house at Thornton View Hospital or what used to be but I believe the Court House was a listed building and they once filmed an episode of In living memory with Thora Hird just before I worked there in 1980's, there's a lot of History in that building.

  • @jetsons101
    @jetsons101 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Darren, that building screams Craftsmanship from top to bottom. The Loo "bathroom" you ended with must have cost more to construct than my whole house. Leave it to the Victorians to overdo everything.....

10:34 How many years has that statement brutalist concrete monstrosity of a car park been blighting the heart of Bradford?
Thank goodness common sense is finally prevailing. The sooner all these 1960s as subtle as a brick excrescences foisted on an unsuspecting public are consigned to the dustbin of history, the sooner we can begin to take pride in and look after our home towns again.

I randomly stumbled across a video this week (when looking for someone else film/TV related in Yorkshire), where a man threw himself off the top of the tower for a Kung-Fu feature film which never got made, and got blamed on the 2007/08 financial crisis.
