  • I truly did not want to make this video. It's funny how the world has a comedic sense of timing, but I felt like bringing folks into the inner workings of my mind. I recently had to bow out of a tournament because of medical pain, and this video got scheduled for today last week. Little did I know that DNF's were going to be a hot button topic, but I felt like it was still important to bring folks along. The further I get from the decision, the more confident I feel the right decision was made for me and the future of this channel, but I'll always be curious how others feel. Maybe it's a strength, maybe it's a weakness. You’ll have to watch to find out!!

If you’re a Robbie C OR a Robbie Crawford hater, you need to do some self evaluation. Robbie, you’re the man. Keep your chin up, heal up, and we all know we are gonna see you get right back on that horse and enjoying the game you love and making the content we all adore. God bless you young man and I’m praying for you.

This is not a hit to the channel in my mind. Documenting your recovery, developing a better warm up routine, adding to the conversation of biomechanics in disc golf, more time to think about podcast topics and guests, videos on mental game.
Keep it up dude! You’ve got this!

Before I even watch the video... so I am not influenced by what Robbie says. I want to champion Robbie's decision. I was out there with him and I want to let folks know how serious he took this decision and struggled to play longer than I think he should have because of the pressure that comes from being a Mr. TH-cam man. As a fellow injured elbow disc golfer who still can't throw after 2 month of resting and rehab... trying to play through the pain seems like a good idea in the short term, but can increase problems down the road. Let's remember to challenge each other when appropriate, but let's be the first to give grace when someone is legitimately hurting. :D

I will be praying for your elbow!!! I have a few ideas below maybe.
    1) What are all the tournament descriptions and which one is right based on skill set.
    2) bag vs cart which is better or is it situational.
    3) What size bag to buy and what options to look for.
    4) Talk about some of the pros to follow and what makes them good (strengths and weaknesses).
    5) How to sharpen your discgolf IQ (knowing what kind of shot with what kind of disc, weatheretc...
    6) Playing in wind how does it effect shots and what to do.
Hope this helps. Love your content!!!

Appreciate you being so open about this because I think that the general community isn't realizing fast enough that this is a sport and when your athleticism isn't up to par injuries can/do happen. I've had many on/off injuries in my right knee, left big toe, right elbow, lower back, and even in my shoulders that thankfully healed up fast but have seen less frequent injury after taking my physical fitness a bit more seriously by warming up before my rounds and taking time to work out at home. Maybe some content aimed at letting beginners know some injury risks and basics on how to avoid them with recommendations to other channels for more advanced help could be worthwhile in the future? Keep going strong on that healing process brother!

Great video! The word "excuse" has become a word that people use as a derogatory word. What you had was a legitimate excuse due to an injury. One thing I have learned in life is to not care what others think or say. YOU know what happened to YOU. That is all that is needed. Also, loved it when you were doing the announcements on that Sunday. Made me very nervous to throw but I did birdie that first hole! Keep your head up and get healed!

Sorry to hear that Robbie! I had a similar injury not related to disc golf that caused some numbness and tingling in my fingers a few years ago. Made grip strength difficult, even when putting on a belt or turning a house key. That's when I learned about how those muscles and tendons near the elbow affect using your hands. Pretty wild to think, but also super helpful once you know the cause and know the stretches that help alleviate the issue. Best of luck moving forward! When you're all healed up, I'd love to see a video on midrange grip please!

Much respect for you brother. Must’ve been tough!
    Just a tip from a powerlifting coach/competitor:
You’re going to want to use heat and a tens machine to help with your recovery.
Ice will make you feel better in the immediate moment but slows down recovery in the long run.
The Kinesiology research showed a new study indicating that ice is counterproductive to recovery because it slows down blood flow. Whereas a tens machine combined with some on and off heat will increase blood flow thus speeding up recovery. Just my two cents.
Good luck in your recovery. Prayers up. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a race.

  • @brandonbensel3536
    @brandonbensel3536 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

This is exactly why I think conditioning that is not throwing is so important. Last year I always had elbow issues by the end of a tournament. I committed this winter to a lifting program and modified it somewhat to be something I can do during tournament season as well, even programming in some cardio so I don't feel tired during rounds, and it's made a huge difference. I don't know that I would add something like that in the middle of a season but talking to a PT about some work you can do to strengthen not only the elbow but the rest of your throw and everything involved in the brace can be good injury prevention in the long run.

I'm glad you finally listened to your body, it is tough to stop when you are a competitor but in order to play another day you needed to retire from that round. I was just getting back into disc golf a few years ago again and came down with frozen shoulder and then tennis elbow. I taught myself to throw left handed. I just recently got my first lefty ACE! Take a long rest, elbows take time to heal. I have an idea, your new videos will chronicle your journey learning to throw left handed as you teach others to play. You have a nice approach and are creative. You will find a way. Take care.

Question... Have you seen AB's new warm up routine that he does before every round? He credits that routine with a lot of the success that he is having this year because every round he starts, he is warm and ready to throw. He's not 3 holes in before everything feels like it is firing properly. I think this is going to be important for the sport moving forward to increase performance and longevity. I'm sorry your round stunk, but it sounds like you are getting on top of the issues and finding a path forward. That shows as much or more about who you are than simply "finishing a round". You're not an impostor, Robbie. You're a kind, generous, empathetic person who is doing everything he can to grow the sport. As my coach used to say... "they hate you cuz thay ain't you." I've had these issues before in the elbow. What helped? Time off and then...muscle strengthening once I'm healed up. The difference between working out 3 days a week vs not was a huge impact on how my entire body feels during or after a round.
My last video I felt SO good too. Just some resistance bands, a little core work and 15 - 25 lb dumbbells for 20 minutes, 3 times a day makes such a difference.
    Feel better, man!!

Make sure as you start to feel better you continue taking it easy and doing your stretching and PT. And then when you feel 100% keep doing your PT exercises and stretching.
I found the theragun was excellent during my rehab (only after the first week or two and swelling has come down)

Looks like it's time for some lefty learning episodes. Sorry that happened to you man. I went through some of the same stuff with my elbow and wrist the past year and it flares up from time to time. I found that grip and finger extension strengthening really helped me.

Time to teach people how to develop a left handed shot! I threw left handed for a few weeks after inviting my wrist and it was really eye opening. Taught me a lot about the importance of form and timing.

I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. I really do wish that you didn't have to go through this. With that being said... I'm really excited to hear all about the recovery journey. I want to know all about the stretches and exercises that you do to recover. My elbow had been bothering me for years after playing any kind of throwing sport, but not bad enough to warrant a dr visit. Keep the content coming and I'll be praying you as you recover!

Not a fun video to film I’m sure but love the transparency Robbie! And though this an opportunity to show new players what happens if you get injured/how to work through it, the most important part that you are doing well with is staying positive. Good luck with the recovery and will be looking forward to future videos no matter what they are. 🙌🏻🥏

I saw my doctor about a similar symptom and he said a pt could try a form of steroid injection in that area that could help, but ultimately not using it at all until the pain goes away is best. Otherwise just stretch and if it gets worse go to pt. I'm sorry that happened to you Robbie. And I hope you read this because this is something I personally enjoy seeing and would love for you to introduce to your channel in times like this where playing isn't the optimal option for your health. That would be filming you actually coaching others. Reviewing form, going through actual training sessions watching your help them as their coach through ups and downs. I think that would be excellent content. If you picked like some volunteers from the birdie fam or if someone is already paying you for coaching and doesn't mind being filmed and used as an example, that would make great content I feel. That also may just be me though lol

Sorry to hear what you are going through Robbie. As upsetting as it felt, you made the right decision for your health and disc golf game. Take this with a grain of salt but I am currently in physical therapy school and an avid disc golfer myself. It sounds like the condition your experiencing is lateral epicondilitis or better known as tennis elbow and like you mentioned is essentially an overuse injury of thr common extensor tendon of the forearm. Along with some stretching and modalities that you are using to calm the tendon down, it would be extremly benficial to begin to load the tendon and muscles to help further strengthen that group so future flare ups are less likely to occur. I am curious shat kind of stretches and exericses you will demonstrate in your next video as well and I think it can be a great learning opportunity for all of us! Good luck with your recovery Robbie!

You, sir, are one of the best content creators I listen to. I love your videos. I love your energy. I love your honesty. I have a very high respect for you and all that you do. I am glad you listened to your body and and doing what needs done. It takes true strength to stop and get help (whether mentally, physically, emotionally, whatever). I adore that you went out and made everyone playing at that event into a rockstar. While love may be a softer voice, it is always stronger than hate. Keep being you, sir. You are amazing.

Everyone's journey through this life is messy and complicated. We try to do what we love, we try to improve ourselves and others, but sometimes we just can't. All that is expected of us at times is to try and persevere through life, living the best way that we know how. Keep staying postitive, recognize our own weaknesses, and turn those weaknesses into strengths. Keep staying positive, keep smiling, keep helping yourself and others and there will be light. Fight the good fight my brother!!

You made the right decision! And I love that you took a hard time and rose above to make everyone else's tournament better!!
As for content I would be very interested in seeing you use all you know about disc golf to try and learn to throw left-handed. Maybe at the same time you teach a new player? I think there is a lot of the early struggle we forget about some of the early challenges. Either way I wish you all the best in recovery.

I’ve dnf’d twice and both times it was the worst feeling I’ve ever had and I don’t have the haters like you. I tore a muscle in my throwing arm lat muscle and I tore a ligament in my ankle on the other. I did start to throw left because of the lat muscles. Much love Robbie and heal quickly

I have recently tweaked a nerve in my right hand/wrist, I think from trying to throw nose down through the entire throw instead of "turning the key" at the end. My solution has been to learn to throw lefty and let my right arm rest. I would be very interested in whatever hand stretches etc you are doing for your rehab. Hope that you get can get back at it soon! Always appreciate the content.
