D-Ray-, I have been working on everything that's got an engine since I was 13 years old, I am 63 years old, I have a automotive mechanics degree, all the factory schools from Nissan:Toyota;Lexus;UD trucks;Mitusubishi; engine builders seminar; ect, Used to think this procedure was crazy dangerous, But Brother I have got to say, YOU made me a believer!!! You taught a Mangy Old dog in texas something new. Your video is Very WELL Done, you did not miss a thing!!! Clear and Concise, heck I subscribed, it was so well done. Congratulations!! And thanks, enjoyed it. And by the way, I never leave comments.
Excellent. Thank you. Your video debunked what I had been told - tilting the bed is hard and more time consuming. With your video as a guide, I was able to replace the pump on a 2000 Silverado in just under an hour and half. What I really appreciate is the focus on safety - the support blocks, the brass punch tip and working with flammable contents. Thanks again.
This is absolutely PERFECT! you are a natural instructor and I like that you are also clean. I always hate to see people replace things and miss the opportunity to clean around and be proud of a clean good looking job. You even have the perfect voice to play this video on a large audience, ha! You should dedicate yourself to teach. Don't be surprised if GM or other company reaches out to you to be a spokesperson on the HOW TO videos.
I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP ON A1988 PU USING THIS METHOD. IF YOU PERFER YOU MAY CHOSE TO LIFT THE FRONT OF THE BED.MUST LEAVE THE BOLTS. ABOUT HALF THE THREADS SO THE BED CAN PIVOT UP. I HAVE DONE IT BOTH WAYS..
As the buddy he mentioned doing a replacement for previously, I want to say that it is pumping right along 6 years and 50,000 miles later! Thanks, D-Ray!
Thanks to you, I preemptively replace my pump before it left me stranded. 2013 silverado with 150Ks . One quick thing I'd like to say, I had a tough time spinning the lock ring to secure the new pump. I decided to purchase the $20 tool available everywhere on line, with that tool, mission impossible became a walk in the park. Thank you for posting your video, Helped me immensely. Be well , live a long life.
my first time seeing this video . i must say ,as a gm tech who has done hundreds of fuel pump over the years you have done a good job on making this video to help others do there own repairs .just remember safety first..
Why are there idiots giving this awesome video a thumbs down??? Oh probably cause those folks are shop mechanics and lost a few customers and a $300 + job. Thank you very much and you have the best video hands down for a DIY community.
mechanic said 400.00. I bought the fuel pump motor for 17 bucks on ebay and repaired it myself. you don't have to buy the entire unit. great video, thanks!
D-Ray gotta say your video instuction on fuel pump replacement is superb. Today i changed a pump on a 1996 2500 silverado and wish i could have found your video first. the best trick was tilting the bed with the passenger bolts half way in. im 65 yrs young and i muscled the thing around without help. Well you can be sure i will be searching your videos in the future. Thank you for your contribution. Tom from Moscow Idaho.
Thanks D-Ray, did this on my 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 engine, however I am in the Rust belt, Northern Michigan. Your idea of tilting the bed worked great, and also can check out all the wires, brake lines too. Really glad I saw a post to buy a new locking ring, as mine was toast, nothing but rust. I decided to put in a Delphi fuel pump also. Thanks for all the pointers, Sure helped a lot!
Ole D-Ray seems like a guy you would want as a friend. A real genuine, easy going, good ole boy, as we say in the South. I could easily work for, or along side the man.
I like this video because you break it down. I was stumped on how to take off fuel lines and it was very simple after you explained it. I watched a lot of videos on how to do this and all were missing steps...EXCEPT YOUR! Nice job man and thank you very much.
Knocked mine out today, D-Ray. I had to drop the hitch first. That was fun. Got everything buttoned back up, cranked her up, put my foot on the brake and brake fluid squirted everywhere. I guess the vibration from the impact gun broke the corroded line, so here we go. Gas gauge works now, but can't go anywhere lol. Oh well. Thanks for the fine vid, brotha!
I don't even need to replace a fuel pump but this man knows how to get it done. One thing I would like to add, and should have been said, probably best to siphon out all of the gas from that fuel tank first. Gasoline is nothing to play with, highly volatile, and made me wary around that lamp he had near by. Even one static spark and your life will never be the same. You stand a better chance with diesel fuel, but pump gas is DANGEROUS.
Great Video. Clear, to the point, and easy to watch. Thank you for your effort! I've got a duramax but watched anyway to see the bed lifted and the tank access.
I've seen so many poorly made videos made by goofs who know nothing, stand in the way of the cam, too dark, mumbling, hard to understand speech, noisy garbage. Your video is CLASS A INSTRUCTION!
D ray this was a great how to video I've dropped tanks (NEVER AGAIN) REMOVED THE BED TO MOVE IT BACK BUT YOUR PROCESS WORKED GREAT IT WAS EASILY A ONE MAN JOB BUT I DID HAVE HELP I REALLY APPRECIATE THE GUIDE YOU POSTED ONLY ADDITION WOULD BE TO REWIRE THE NEW PUMP THOSE DIRECTIONS IN THE NEW PACKAGE WERE NOT EASY AS YOUR VIDEO TO FOLLOW THANKS AGAIN BROTHER GREAT LESSON LOOK FORWARD TO MORE
Awesome video Sir! It will save me a ton of time. I had to replace my fuel pump before and I dropped the tank not even thinking about just lifting the bed. This should be a piece of cake. Thanks again!
I commented on part 1, I asked the question, "Do you really think this would be easier than just dropping the fuel tank?". Well, after replacing a few fuel pumps on a few cars and after watching this video I can answer my own question. Yes, this is much easier than pumping the fuel out of your tank, disconnecting your fuel filler neck, jacking ur truck up high enough to do the job & putting it on Jack stands, laying on your back & getting dirt in your eyes while taking the bolts out of the straps, getting dirt in your eyes while lowering the tank, pulling it out from under your truck, changing out the old fuel sending unit for a brand new Chineseum fuel sending unit, then sliding the fuel tank back under your truck, lifting the tank back up into position while getting dirt in your eyes, bolting the tank up with the straps while getting dirt in your eyes, bolting the tank straps up while getting dirt in your eyes, & then connecting the fuel filler neck.
Thanks for the detailed video D-Ray! I am from PEI Canada and my truck does not look any where near like yours! Yours looks like a brand new truck! Mine is full of rust! I must say, Im a little jealous. LOL
Thank you for making this high quality video with detailed explanations. Safety seems to be your #1 priority as should anyone that works with machinery.
Man, I just loved your videos. I followed them to replace the fuel pump on my 2001 Silverado. You are a very good man, my friend. And I love your accent. Seems like you'd be fun to hang out with.
I wish the lock ring on a 07 looked like that up here in new england. We usually can't reuse them from the amount of rust/rot on them. Sometimes the tabs on the tank are rotted as well. I'm moving down south. Love the video.
D-Ray good vid. I have a 95 Chevy Silverado, I've owned it since new and have put 3 fuel pumps in to. The first 2 I just bough the pump from Auto Zone. On the 3rd one I got the complete assembly, this is the only way to go. Spend the extra bucks and in the end you won't have to go back inside. I had help with my brother, we moved the bed back to the rear of the vehicle. I needed the room. Like you I had a lot of gas in the pig. Been lucky so far, the complete unit has lasted longer than just the pump. Good vid. GM and the other companies have a shitty design with the pump inside of the tank. They could have installed a electric pump next to the frame rail that would make replacement easier.
Thanks for the great help lesson on fuel pump replacement for Sierra 1500. Wish I'd seen this when mine died. Could have had it towed to house, done it myself and saved $775 in shop charges.
Wow! You got hosed man. It's 3.5hrs labor at most. I just looked it up because I'm doing one for a friend tomorrow. The pump was $180.19 with tax and I'm charging $100 for labor.
Thank you so very much D Ray!!!!!! Hands down the most educated video and the simplest way to do this. God bless and keep making videos my friend!!! 🍺🍺
im about to do this tomorrow... im going to drop my tank to clean it out real good but i can see the advantage of doing it your way( lifting the bed) because you can actually test it.... but mine was just pumping low psi (20psi and still running after changing the fuel filter) but great video, and you really sound like you understand whats going on.. i really like the detail in taking the connections off the actual module itself................
Hey young man; I commend you on the video. Very very helpful. We did have on trouble spot. Even though this truck was almost as clean as the one you did. We had a heck of a time with bed bolts. these were the tightest I think I have ever come across. We soaked with PB Blaster. Seems on both sides, the second from cab gave us the most probs. After that all went as you described. Tnks again; Tom
I just changed my pump in mine doing it the way you showed it and it went purfect 👍 glade I saw your video because I didn't have any one to help me it went great thanks for doing this video 😆
Nice job on the close up shots, good use of the dielectric grease. Only as a suggestion, I might have used a "contact cleaner" first on the electrical plugs, then the dielectric grease. Good that you mention the grounding connector. Amazing how that electrical point of contact is a major problem. Thank you.
Thank You! D-day your video was awesome! Helped me out so much, you did a great job explaining everything step by step. Very professional. I was able to change my fuel pump exactly how you did it. It took all day but was well worth it. Feeling very proud of myself. Thanks again! ♡
Great idea, will help get at those rusted fuel lines too, it's also a choke point for replacing brake lines. Speaking of rusted fuel lines, we could use a tutorial like this on a fuel line replacement/repair. Thanks!
One thing I would also add, if this is a first time, you can manuver and spray inside the channel to reach nut end on the bed bolts. Then once you break loose, do the tighten/ loosen 3 or 4 times as you back them off.
lovely lovely lovely this is great,i removed a fuel tank on a 2001 dodge ram and it wasn't easy,if I had to do it again,i am surely gonna do it the way you are showing thanks.
I must compliment your detailed instruction and process explanation. You make it seem possible for anyone to master this task. However, if I do not have one of those air impact bolt remover tools, how can I get the dang bolts loose?
I just wanted to say thanks this helped a lot, I'm currently in progress of replacing my fuel pump. I did this exact method, you explained everything well. I have a 08 chevy Silverado, mine was leaking fuel out of the side of one of the pipes that comes out from pump.
Fantastic work, great video.. answered every possible question in a very professional way. I'd let D-ray work on any of my cars, and I'm very particular!
do you have to deal with the stinky ethanol 10% down there. That gives me headaches. I love going to TN they have non ethanol there. Here its rare if they have it and if so they charge you $0.50+ per gallon more.
Not one to usually comment. Too often someone ends up on the N Train (negative). I noticed a few here but whatcha gonna do ? On to business. I own a ford and I do live near the salt environment. All that said, this was one of the best how to videos I've ever watched. Almost made me want to sell my ford and buy a chevy. Naw! Just kidding. Seriously thanks and I learned a lot from you.
Thank..you..i have a silverado... GBU for helping others... You will always be blessed.. I can't afford $700. Wich was my estimate at a local shop..i have kids and Xmas is weeks away.... Thank you very much your AWESOME!!!!!😁
Very good instructions well done I myself would have sprayed a little WD-40 or something similar on to that locking room to make it a little bit easier to come off a little bit easier to go on that's how I do it especially the same
This was a great video very helpful... The issue with my truck is it sometimes just stalls at idle , but it also hesitates sometimes. I'm not sure if that is the pump
thank you thank you thank you! I am doing a 2000 silverado today. The customer just filled the tank up to the top i was dreading dropping that tank whewwwwwwwwww!
Ray ! You are a Genius. I am 65 shade tree not professional and have changed a few in-tank fuel pumps, always dropping them to the ground, what a fight! Never again! I HAVE A 05 GMC DENALI W/50,000 ORIGINAL MILES...I DON'T DRIVE A LOT. THE ASCENDING UNIT MOST LIKELY WILL FAIL LONG BEFORE THE FUEL PUMP STARTS, TRUE ? OR FALSE ? SHOULD I REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE OF AGE ? OR KEEP DRIVING AND KEEPING UP WITH TANK MILEAGE ?
I'm probably going to have to do this replacement soon on my '05 Chevy Silverado ext.cab long bed..probably going to do it exactly this same way too. I usually am sans help around here lol. Great video D-Ray :-)
D-Ray like your videos. Also, your outboard motor videos. I am going to attempt a fuel pump replacement on my 1989 K-1500 with 224,000 miles (4.3 motor). Do you have a Video on clutch replacement on the above 4x4?
This makes me want to live down south because it doesn't work this way up north lol. Try and get a bed loose after a decade of snow and salt lol and the plugs and clips o my looks easy peasy this way . But most likley all four driver side bed bolts would have broke clean off and trying to loosend passenger side good luck same deal . We drop the tank and replace straps .
This fella did an extraordinary job demonstrating this project! The narrative was detailed, the video was clear and crisp, overall outstanding!!!
Agreed
Excellent job. Your attention to detail in the planning and execution of the repair gets an A+. The video was outstanding as well.

great video, thanks!
I did the same thing on a 2007 Kia Sorento 4x4. The plastic doesn't go bad just the motor. It came with new filters and screens by the way. eBay baby!

Best fuel pump replacement video for this truck I have seen.
No doubt but some will cut holes in the bed to get too em lol
U can tell D Ray knows his stuff but others not so much lol.
This video was one of the most pleasant/enjoyable/concise/friendly/considerate videos I've ever watched on TH-cam. Great job my brother.
Excellent video, very clear and thorough verbal description and camera work. Thanks for a job well done
Great video, I love how you just put your shoulder under the wheel well and lifet the bed up by yourself!
good job, you explain things well and the video footage is clear and close up...this is full of content...thumbs up
Very good video.
A no BS video, just a start to finish detailed and straight forward approach.
I see the ron John surf co hat!!! I'm from Texas but grew up in cocoa beach Florida... Love that place. Thanks for the video brother

Great video, very helpful. I like how you explained everything before you did it. That helps to know what you’re getting into.
Great Video. Clear, to the point, and easy to watch. Thank you for your effort! I've got a duramax but watched anyway to see the bed lifted and the tank access.
I really enjoyed listening to you.. Your approach and easy manner are the symbalof a good man. Thank you D-Ray !!!
Great job in camera work .. and great details showing us everything that we actually need to do ... very professionally made video... well done ...
My thoughts exactly 👍
The best video ever. Gets right to the point with tremendous detail
I've seen so many poorly made videos made by goofs who know nothing, stand in the way of the cam, too dark, mumbling, hard to understand speech, noisy garbage. Your video is CLASS A INSTRUCTION!
D Ray you are the best. You’ve saved me tons of time and trouble. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. Keep up the good work love your videos.

This how-to is spot on! Just what I needed to see to do this myself. Thank you, thank you for such a great video.
Thank D-Ray watched the video and went out and changed the pump on a 1999 Silverado!

........and getting dirt in your eyes.

Helped me out so much, you did a great job explaining everything step by step. Very professional.
I was able to change my fuel pump exactly how you did it.
It took all day but was well worth it.
Feeling very proud of myself.
Thanks again! ♡
This method worked very well for me. Thanks for the in-depth video!
Great idea, will help get at those rusted fuel lines too, it's also a choke point for replacing brake lines. Speaking of rusted fuel lines, we could use a tutorial like this on a fuel line replacement/repair. Thanks!
I am planning on replacing my fuel pump next month, hopefully. This video has helped in explaining what to expect.
Loved your video you made it look easy I am from Northern PA what a rusty mess i had but it worked Thanks again for the video
Perfect videos brother from start to finish. Everything i needed to know. Thanks again!
Thanks D-Ray...you made it look easy enough... hope it goes well for me.... again thanks a bunch
Best method I've seen yet. Thanks for sharing!
One thing I would also add, if this is a first time, you can manuver and spray inside the channel to reach nut end on the bed bolts. Then once you break loose, do the tighten/ loosen 3 or 4 times as you back them off.
Great video! Was especially helpful with getting different types of connectors off.
Stellar camera work and lighting. I was going to cut hole in bed but after I saw you can prop up with your back I am in, thanks!
awesome! my truck does not need it now, but I'm getting prepared. And yes I prefered your way, instead bring down the whole fuel tank. thank you
lovely lovely lovely this is great,i removed a fuel tank on a 2001 dodge ram and it wasn't easy,if I had to do it again,i am surely gonna do it the way you are showing thanks.
I must compliment your detailed instruction and process explanation. You make it seem possible for anyone to master this task. However, if I do not have one of those air impact bolt remover tools, how can I get the dang bolts loose?
Buy a electric impact wrench from Harbor freight for 30 bucks, I love mine
From one Arkansas boy to another, Great video! Sure helped me a lot.
I'd let D-ray work on any of my cars, and I'm very particular!
best how to video ive seen, clear and concise!
very good easy to follow your instuction , what is the power wire color for pump ?
Very detailed how to video. Great job. Hope you do more!
I just watched this video. Would you share with me what's the tool was that you used instead of the special tool to disconnect one of the lines?
do you have to deal with the stinky ethanol 10% down there.
Really well done. I would have been pretty worried if I saw how different the replacement part was from the original!
Im curious to know,, you put in an aftermarket pump, is it still working ?
thanks, nice video btw
boy you got guts you are very very good to do that kind of job I hope it's never going to happen on my truck
Amazing single hand dexterity! Very impressive and informative! Thank you!
Thank..you..i have a silverado... GBU for helping others... You will always be blessed.. I can't afford $700. Wich was my estimate at a local shop..i have kids and Xmas is weeks away.... Thank you very much your AWESOME!!!!!😁
Excellent job, only thing I would've done different is while I had the lock ring off I would make a wrench for installing it.
Very good instructions well done I myself would have sprayed a little WD-40 or something similar on to that locking room to make it a little bit easier to come off a little bit easier to go on that's how I do it especially the same
Well done. Very detailed and thorough. thanks for taking the time.
This was a great video very helpful... The issue with my truck is it sometimes just stalls at idle , but it also hesitates sometimes. I'm not sure if that is the pump
THANKS D-RAY'S!! THIS VIDEOS HELP ME A LOT!!!!!
thank you thank you thank you! I am doing a 2000 silverado today. The customer just filled the tank up to the top i was dreading dropping that tank whewwwwwwwwww!
VERY COOL POST! Saved me a LOT of money! THANKS!
Thanks so very much for making such a straight forward no nonsense tutorial and,

Very nicely done, helpful video. Great work.
Excellent Job D-Ray; all the way around!! Thank you!!
You explain the job real good and excellent video footage thanks

Hi do you recommend replacing the fuel pump about every 100.000 miles, weather it needs it or not
very good video , very helpful 👍👍 i appreciate the time you took to show us how to di this
I love your videos, always learn something from them
I'm probably going to have to do this replacement soon on my '05 Chevy Silverado ext.cab long bed..probably going to do it exactly this same way too. I usually am sans help around here lol. Great video D-Ray :-)
update! worked perfectly customer is happy :) thanks a million
Great video. Very thorough, very clear, Thanks for the help.
I agree, this how-to was spot on. Great job.
We drop the tank and replace straps .
no offence great job . Just a dream up north were it snows and salt is used on roads :)
Hey just found your video. Thousands of thanks. Like Gomer Pyle said, thank ya, thank ya, thank ya!
