How Much Does it Cost to Own a Ferrari? [Fuel For Thought]

  • To be honest there is no straight forward answer, but here's my attempt at running over the costs involved in buying a supercar like a Ferrari FF.
    There is a huge variety in the methods of funding a car, before you start looking at insurance, servicing, maintenance, and generally keeping it on the road. No one answer correctly covers all bases but I can try to give you an outline and slight understanding.
    Thanks for watching, Tim

    It's impossible to say precisely because circumstances vary completely from person to person, but here's some vague ideas of what's involved and what you may be looking at. Any more questions, let me know and I'll try to answer!

    To answer the question you have sort of avoided
    50k deposit
    13k monthly payments PA
    1k insurance PA
    3.5k fuel PA
    1k tyres PA
    1k brakes PA
    1k misc parts and service items not included in warrantee PA
    1k for parking, tax and cleaning etc PA
    Assuming you are on a 3 year plan, the total cost would be 190,100, including the final balloon payment.
    PCP means you won’t own the car until the final installment is paid.
    So you are just renting for the moment.
    115,100 is what you will pay to run the car for 3 years and sell it at the end.
    This means it will still cost you 738 per week or 105 per day in the meantime
    If you buy it outright, it will cost 1218 per week or 174 per day
    So, happy motoring to you.

    Young person in your 20's, on 40k - for goodness sake, do not buy a supercar. Live below your means, understand disciplined saving and forget about trying to 'look rich'.

      @stevenfarrington2361 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I think you'll find he said from experience that a used Aston V8 Vantage can be afforded on 40K a year. If you are a star in the making in sales, marketing, investing or business management, getting a noteworthy car such as an Aston, a Porsche or the like will certainly open doors for you and help you fake it til you make it.

    • @stevenfarrington2361
      @stevenfarrington2361 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have you driven an Elise? It's way too impractical and uncomfortable to have as an only car, unlike an Aston or Porsche. Elise makes a good 5th car.

      Don't think there are many people in their 20's earn 40k a year!
      A doctor doesn't start to earn that pre-tax before he gets to registrar level, and that takes 7+ years from graduation!
      Usually Daddies or Mummies money if you have these cars in your 20's.
      Ow the irony!! ;)

      40k in London means nothing !! If you dont have rich family or own house you can get max Audi. I've got just over 30k and my wife about 27k. We life in Yorkshire, get a mortgage (cottage house for 248k), one kid and crazy dog. Nothing big or fancy. Just normal life (every year 3 weeks holiday in Greece) and what I can get is 2010 Ford Focus. max !!

    Shmee, this is another thing that sets you apart from other tubers, with exception of MrJWW, explaining other areas of the supercar experience, especially areas that most people skip over without fully understanding why they bought the car in the first place. They generally only talking about the performance but cars to me are more than just the Engineering and design that go into it. This video is very helpful and can inspire others to chase their dreams of owning one, also glad to see that you do pay close attention to what your views what answered. Please keep up the great work!

    Not sure if he mentioned it in the video but if you purchase a new Ferrari such as a 488, F12, or California T, it's worth noting that all maintenance costs are covered for the first 7 years free of charge. While this stops your eyes from watering when you see the bottomline of a maintenance bill it also guarantees that your car will remain perfectly serviced for the majority of your ownership. And just to be clear this is a worldwide program. Not just the US or UK.

    Using a 360 modena as an example and an approved Ferrari Dealer with 3000 miles a year:
    1.) Service cost £2000 (12 month service)
    2.) Odds and sods (for example - sometimes an oil seal might go and you wake to find a puddle of oil on floor) £3000
    3.) Insurance fuel and road tax are very reasonable - I: £700 fully comp for a 34 year old, road tax £295 on a 04 plate and probably £2000 for 3000 miles of fuel
    So thats a typical annual cost of £7995. This is assuming nothing MAJOR goes wrong which it shouldn't really - the 04 modena was pretty bullet proof with all the recall work done

    2 Major things, in the US at least they do offer extended warranties through Ferrari but they are more limited than the original warranty. If your in NY or the Northeast you can get wheel and tire protection for your car and it will help with those horrible potholes that can damage a wheel or tire. If you daily a a Ferrari or Maserati this will help you. 2ND about the warranty from my dealer the 4th and 5th year is like the original warranty but 6+ is powertrain warranty. For a 458 or California I will give you a example what can happen. My friend purchased a CPO California (2012) 3K miles. Purchased in 2013 with 2yr warranty and bought 1 year extended. He decided since everything was going well and servicing was free until the car has been 7 years old not to renew. 45 days out of warranty the transmission went at approximately 9.5K. Cost? 35K from FM LI and 30-32 from other dealerships. Now that the California's and 458's are coming down especially early California's in the US I recommend a warranty that covers the transmission as in my friends case the dealer said they have done rebuilds ($5-8K) but they generally don't last long. In his case when they did the rebuild and tested the car transmission went again so it needed a new transmission. Now the issue he has is the car went in for before transmission went completely in end of July as it was having issues and when you would restart the car they they would go away for a while so it seemed odd. This whole process took 3 months! He just got his car back end of October with just over 10K miles! Also front and rear bumper scratched in addition oil residue on carpets from mechanics. 500+ miles. The invoice showed came in and left with just over 10K miles! Stay away from Ferrari Maserati LI and Experience Auto Group. Richard head of service just said he's sorry about the damage and he would fix it. The car should have never been scratched while at the dealership at all. Luckily the front bumper at least had a clear bra. The rear is now going to fixed my a detailer. Always take pictures before being tour car in for service no matter what level of car! Happy to answer any questions.

      In Germany it's compulsory for emissions reasons I believe. Other countries you have to have it on the car but you can switch it off with a button only to have it default to on when you restart the car. Here in NZ you can have a dealer legally disable it but this may change. You cannot disable it in Settings.

    I've always found this question of "how much does it cost to own or run a certain type of luxury item" question funny. Way too many variables and factors to really accurately say how much. Also, unless you're a close acquaintance, I find that it's always a touchy subject to talk about someone's salary hence the luxury items they tend to pursue. I find that in the instance of seeing someone with a luxury car I will assume they've worked hard and have a good job for them to be able to afford said vehicle. Just enjoy it, that's the biggest compliment you can give someone.

    Ok, well done. First time I hear someone talking actual numbers and being honest! I guess the majority of TH-cam-Car-Vloggers is financing their cars. Shmee seems to have his math sorted and plans according to the depriciation or increase in value of his cars/ future cars. Swapping cars like the limited editions that are coming with a profit allows to upgrade slowly but steadily. That's why he doesn't drive certain cars to Monaco or accross Europe as more mileage means higher depreciation. Thanks for that!

    Here in the USA you can deduct the initial cost, running costs, and depreciation of a car if you use it for generating income, like for example in TH-cam videos. Or amortize the cost over several years if you bought it outright. This can be used to reduce your taxable income. Sincerely, Donald J. Trump.

    Really good video Shmee. I can only dream of 14mpg. Just bought myself an E60 M5 and I'm lucky to get past 11! Also, after 5mins / 1 mile of ownership it showed up and engine fault which cost me £1800 to repair. So yes, keeping a powerful performance car on the road and in good condition is very expensive! Would do it again in a heart beat!!

    • @Kimouchi
      @Kimouchi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't plan on doing anything other then play games and watching things, then you can get the non-overclock-able version of the CPU.
      Also what resolution are you going to be gaming at? GTX 1080 really is pretty much the card to get if you game at 2560x1440 or 3440x1440 and over kill for a single 1080p monitor.
      I personally don't skimp out on the PSU just for the reason is because after awhile the PSU starts to buzz after awhile. Got a Platinum EVGA PSU its been going good for a year so far. (The buzzing noise can also come from the GPU for coil-whine, but haven't personally experience it though.)
      IF you really want to for for the best experience for gaming go for 1070 and a G-Sync monitor.
      Don't save up. Don't buy in parts, buy it all at once. It really alleviates the stress you'll have to do troubleshooting or DOA parts if you have any.
      You'll end up spending around $1500 with all the peripherals you buy and the monitor.
      But if you want a really good experience overall focus on the G-Sync monitor and the GPU.

    Shmee, the way you own your cars from a financial perspective is just remarkable! You could say 'you don't own that FF', but on the other hand, it's for the financial aspect, it's not worth having to pay the huge premium when you'd buy a new one, and you don't have to worry about depreciation since you don't actually own it. On the McLarens, the aston, ford GT, and probably the amg gtr, the only thing that does cost you money is actually running them, fuel tires, insurance, all money you won't see coming back where it came from... The biggest problem you have with normal cars is that they lose their value too quickly... You could actually try and have a loan from a bank, buy a sought after car, drive it (and hope to not bin it), sell it for a profit. It all just makes sense. Thanks for sharing!

  • @delbroox

    How much does everyone want to know how much Shmee earns a year? 😂😂

    • @Shmee150
      @Shmee150  7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      The figure would be totally irrelevant anyway because it doesn't mean anything. A salary is only relevant to a person working for a company, when you run your own business the figures are massively skewed because you pump so much back into it; in my case the team and growth opportunities.

    • @656781g4

      Shmee150 I know, I was joking it's not mine nor anyone else's busisness on your income. I personally take inspiration from you. I have some time being only 17 to build up a company(s) like yours.

      You won't be able to get that, you don't know how many businesess he runs, what the profit is, what he gets out of it, how many investments he did ect. Shmee has become a brand, but that is not the only source. I'm not even interested in knowing how much he'd make, mind your own business first before whining about the income of someone else!

      Then buy more carefully. Choose a popular car in a popular colour with popular options, buy at the end of the month or the end of financial year when the pressure is on salespeople to make the quota. Buy from an auction house like I did for my Merc. Learn to do your own maintenance and repairs and buy cars that need a few repairs were the parts are cheap but the labour is expensive, like oil leaks, transmission oil changes, and electrical niggles in the interior.
