    Nice one Tom , I always carry at least 1 Philmac transition coupling on the van to get me out of trouble if needed... 👍

      For me and the jobs I do they are a must for van stock, they are honestly one of the most versatile fittings on the market and have gotten me out of trouble so many times over the years, philmac fittings in general all seem really good quality and are my preferred fitting for underground repairs, thanks for watching as always mate

      Hi Tom, I need to drain my combi boiler heating system down to fit some new radiators and valves. I have noticed in the loft above the boiler two bronze automatic bleed bottles, do these normally give any problems whilst refilling the system?

  • @edthelasttribe9580

    Another tip , have male 1/2 adapter pre made with a pressure gauge , if you feel like it’s filling to long , close off the mains and central heating filling valves , and attach the flexi hose from central heating to it , turn it back on from central heating run , to check the pressure it’s equivalent to boiler gauge . Obviously, if there’s filling loop installed to begin with 😅

  • @dennisphoenix1

    Little tip for when filling heating systems get a pressure reducing valve, set it at 1 bar , with and additional tap flexy fit it in your filling loop so when filling the system and bleeding the radiators the pressure never goes over 1 bar

      That is a very handy tip. I'm stealing that 👍😁

      Sounds like a really good idea that mate, on this job I had the apprentice upstairs ready to shout if he saw any leaks, I was just day dreaming thinking its taking a while to fill and then all of a sudden it sounded like a fitting had blown, I honestly wasn't expecting the gauge not to be showing pressure, caught me of guard a little bit but luckily no damage to property, only to my pride

      @@PlumbLikeTom it's great when you are working on your own , no need to keep going back to the boiler, especially if it's in a garage or plant room etc

    Had an argument once in a wholesalers when I said I needed some polyork pipe and fittings. Bloke said no it’s polypipe/ abs, I stood my ground 🤣. Used this stuff years ago in schools and commercial jobs, it was the in thing at the time.

    Plastic threads😡 my cousin had a grant oil fired boiler core leak at less than 5 years old, warranty refused!

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't deal with Grant boilers but most say they are very good, one reason I deal with Worcester is the warranty is second to none

  • @antoniogalluccio4213
    @antoniogalluccio4213 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You don't need to undo philmac transition couplings completely. As long as 3 threads show you can insert the pipe taking care to mark half of the fitting on the pipe. I usually use them on old black MDPE pipes where the old Imperial stopcock is leaking but I had never seen the pipe you worked with. Anyway you can only use the on cold water mains

    Great real plumbing video mate, the lagging looks great 👍👍👍👍
    A 22mm compression fitting will fit 1/2” Polyork

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can think of a few worst boiler than Worcesters, Kestons being probably one but I know what you mean about them being a little plasticky especially for the premium price, the oil range in my opinion is certainly a lot better than their gas range but this all boils down to preference, good tip on the polyork, its not a pipe I come across all that often around here, thanks for watching

      @@PlumbLikeTom Phewwwww!! That plastic hose going to the faulty pressure gauge!! Really poorly designed for an oil boiler. The Gas ones are even worse, a pile of poo!!

      @@elwittinio2865 I have never fitted a Navian. Sometimes these lesser known boilers brands can be a harder sell to the customer even though they may be better products, If apple made a boiler every customer would most like want an apple boiler even if it was a badge up ferroli boiler and a pile of garbage

    Great vid as always. What's dreaded about dura orc, is it brittle stuff? This is what's gonna catch me out after college all these oddball old skool pipe systems.
    Philmac stuff is fantastic though, lifesaver for plumbers.
    Free shower off the prv. 😏 Wondering if you could make a custom filling loop with a pressure reducer like was suggested but also with a guage.
    Appreciate the videos 😊

      Hi mate, polyorc pipe can be very brittle and with the age of it can be risky to work on, philmacs are a life saver and will join many different types of pipes and sizes, thanks for your continued support of the channel

  • @mariocosta4364
    @mariocosta4364 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The 25mm philmac will fit over the 26.5mm polyorc. You shouldn't need the universal coupler.

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi mate, I realise they both would probably do the same job, but I had a look on philmac technical website and as far as I could see only the universal transition coupler is recommend for joining pipes other than standard PE. I thought is was best to just to use the transition coupler than risk going against manufactures instructions although this pipe is something I very rarely see so I might be wrong

    What’s bad about polyorc?

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pipe itself seems to go brittle so when you disturb it, it can split. I've repaired it before and then had it leak somewhere else. To be honest it's really best just to replace it. I certainly wouldn't leave it if I was doing a bathroom up, I would replace all the pipework under the floors out of the area I was working in, thanks for watching
