    Nice one Tom , I love those old plumbing books and got a few myself that I've picked up from boot sales , I love the way the tradesmen back in the day went to work in a shirt and tie , truly remarkable.....
    Cheers as always.... 👍

      There amazing just to look through and see what the job was like 100 years ago. Maybe one day if these videos are still around people might look back at how it was once done, take care mate. thanks for watching

    I love these old books of old trades. It's incredible to think how far we've come in such a short time.

      They are fascinating to sit down and read through. I was looking at a drawings explaining the principles of secondary circulation, they had it teeing back into the vent at the top of the system and dropping back down, all pipework set to rise to work on gravity. Thanks for watching mate

    Got some old books also, I find them interesting. My old man Talked about a chain vise that they clamped to the customers gatepost for cutting and threading iron.
    A plumber and mate carried 2 toolbags each (with all the tools and kit they might need) and had to catch the bus and walk between jobs! there was a lorry that delivered all materials to the job before they got there.
    He said when he first left school, that he struggled to carry the bags as they were very heavy and they routinely had to walk a long way once getting off the bus.
    Screwed iron, copper and lead pipes in those days. He said they had a paraffin blowlamp with a mouth piece that you had to blow into and it gave a good pencil flame for lead burning.
    We got it easy in some ways, just more stress and regs to think about.

      We have got it alot easy especially with all the tools and equipment, the guy who taught me started out on a tradesman bike, he would often say he had to catch the bus to do a job out of town. The company then brought him a mini van. It would be fascinating to see what this industry will be like in another 100 years, I'll be long dead by then of course, thanks for the support as always mate

    Nice one Tom. Great looking at the old books of trades is always fascinating. As well as just having hand tools these guys worked long hours. The guilds also regulated the apprenticeship training too - 5 years on ‘boys’ money during the apprenticeship and then 2 years journeyman’s time on slightly better money.

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the support as always Norman, the plumbers of the past defiantly had it tough, in many ways things were probably better back then as there were no fast-track courses and trades people were skilled, thanks for the support as always

    Finger Looking good Tom 😂 , I can imagine how much asbestos stuff old tradesmen went trough without even knowing it , I have some books with a Steam boilers. Most stuff looks similar , obviously it’s more computerised , and more safety stuff these days.

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I once found a guide on how to lag a hot water cylinder, it was powder asbestos mixed with water in a bucket and then placed on by hand. Fortunately times are safer now. Thanks for the support as always mate 👍

    Hi Tom, do you use any specific software to quote/invoice?

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest I've got it easy when doing quotes, all I do is write up on paper and the guys and girls in the office type it up on tradify and send it to the client. We are trying to move away from paper so I will no doubt end up with a tablet so I can do quotes, timesheets ect on there. Thanks for watching mate
