Thanks for the Kagi tip! Gave it a try and was instantly impressed with the more relevant results from the first search I tried.

It’s a bit sad that the old internet is disappearing.

It does make sense to pay for a search engine. If you don't, then the company behind it will rely on making money in different ways (investors, advertisements ..etc.) which could interfere with the search results... kind of like I'm already able to see not just in search but TH-cam as another example. Watching a video no longer shows related videos and instead shows other random videos to keep you engaged in a rabbit hole rather than a topic I might be trying to learn.

I am happy to see that you cover this topic. I really dislike it when products and services do not stick to the values declared at the time that you were buying/start using them. It looks like wily people are replacing the intelligent ones at google.

    My problem with google is
    1. I cannot block search results.
    2. Google prefer websites with trackers.
    3. Google prefers mass media websites.
I want to block all mass media websites. BBC, CNN and so on... So they never show up in search results at all. I want peoples internet not corporations and governments propaganda. Even youtube. Look up some subject like war or earthquake in some place or whatever along those lines. 99% of channels will be mass media channels. I vey much doubt that people actually experiencing event event did not film and upload. I know many people do, but I don't care about news anymore. I got tired of constantly bad news. As you said in one video, bad news are good news. It is never ending pit of bad news and propaganda. I don' t want to take that in anymore. My life won't get better, only worse if anything. In this word multiple bad events happen every second. Loudest news will reach me one way or another anyway. And this is why I avoid mass media as much as possible, but they are on top google search results. Thinking to make plugin that will filter web content and remove anything linked to these websites i have blacklisted.

How would you even recognize "people's internet". Corporations filled that space as well. It's almost impossible to know which "people" are actually real.

It's a shame Kagi don't offer region pricing, feel the monthly price will be too steep for the majority of the world

do you think google will revert some of this changes or will they be headstrong against the masses?
it seems that a lot of people stopped using google as their search engine

Depends on the person in charge. It depends on the results of the gov lawsuit. It depends on if there is a big enough bite from these other search providers. Keep in mind Linux has been around for decades and they still (Ignoring handhelds.) only accounts for single digit market shares. Simply put up til now Microsoft has not done enough to piss off a large part of their market share. What they are doing with 11 may change that. Same with Google. The behavior up til now has been annoying but not enough to make people leave. (And frankly the other search engines are either not good or just as bad as Google. The result being people will stick with what they know.) But if it gets to the point that everything in the results is absolute garbage, and for me I'm there, we may see people dump Google which will result in them doing more drastic actions.

to be honest i'll pay gladly for search that works because google is now at a point when you search for something just a little niece it spits out mostly unusable results and often ignores keywords witch makes me think behind the search results is an llm now and i really dislike that

Its funny because today Google chrome welcomed me with option to select my search engine and Google was the last one one the list xD. I wonder why they are making such a mistake. Is it EU law?
