    You know, I own a pack of those dollar store wooden cubes. Been wracking my brain for ways to use them. I could just cut out thin strips of food container card stock and glue them on in plank patterns. Make crates that way.
    But your method works too. Thank you for sharing.

      DM Scotty has a great video where he paints them to give the illusion of boards. Totally worth checking out. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Awesome. Crates and rocks - two things that it doesn't hurt to have a lot of, don't take long to do, and can be as unique as you want to make them. So great to see a channel doing great work for cheap by using basic tools and raw creativity. No proxon hot wire, citadel basing texture, woodland scenics flock, or expensive modelling paste. All that stuff is nice and all but it's really great to see someone able to make something awesome out of pretty much nothing once in a while.

      I try to hit that balance. Sometimes I do like to go wild with the fancy stuff, but I recognize that not everyone has access to it. Thanks so much for watching!

    The carved foam looks more realistic than some of the painted wooden cubes I have seen on other channels.

    I would love to see you kitbash some random stuff from the dollar store! I wonder how hard it'd be to convert a little horse into a statue or something. I saw this Bo Peep mini from Toy Story, and was thinking she'd make a good warrior mod, like you've done in your other videos. Cheers!

    Why not make a burnt umber/mod podge sealer and skip the first step to speed up the process?

    • @hatenull
      @hatenull 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The color of the sealer adds shadows and depth to the final color of the piece. Much the same way on how you prime a mini can alter the colors if you do a solid prime or a zenithal prime.
      Edit: forgot to add, the mod podge protects and hardens the foam. It makes it more durable and allows you to spray prime it if you feel the need.

    • @johnnypenso9574
      @johnnypenso9574 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hatenull Did you read what I wrote? I said, why not make a burnt umber/mod podge sealer so your second paragraph makes no sense. Adding a touch of black to the burnt umber/mod podge first step would accomplish the same thing. We're talking about crates here not foreground minis.

    • @brokenterrain
      @brokenterrain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The real reason is I'm cheap.🤣 I have just a single bottle of the mixed base coat and only replace it as I use it up.

    • @hatenull
      @hatenull 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnnypenso9574 my second paragraph was unnecessary, you're right. As to the other point, the black base adds quick depth to an easy piece. It isn't a foreground piece so why not add easy shadows and depth when it costs almost no extra time?
