The difference between soccer (aka football) and hockey (aka ice hockey) is that if you consistently behave like that in hockey, then sooner or later you'll get taken out on a stretcher.
That's actually not a difference because in the lower leagues of football as well as Sunday leagues and casual football, people get into bust ups all the time. Only in the top leagues of football (which are heavily regulated) do you see players getting away with acting like dicks.

I think the reason a lot of Americans think soccer is a shit sport is because if you tried half of the stuff in this video here, you'd get your teeth knocked out, but in soccer, the opponent just whines and takes it. Blatant flop to get a penalty called, they'd give you a real injury to cry about.

This video is pretty much the reason I can not stand watching pro soccer. I played it all the way up into high school and loved it but always hated watching it on the pro level.
Did you grow up in the usa? If so, that's why. Completely different culture, football is ingrained in European culture.
