    Nice vid. I would also recommend using distilled water. Not every part of the country has the same water and you don't want to risk dissolved minerals leaving marks or discoloring your leather. So take the extra time to buy a jug of distilled water.

    Nakona or Wilson glove conditioner will do the same thing naturally without issues. It will make the leather soft and stretchable. Then beat it!!

    Hey Guys. I tried out the hot water break-in last night. I was pretty happy with it as far as forming went. I think I got the thumb and pinky too wet and they took longer than the rest of the glove to dry and now there is a water line in my palm and the back side of the thumb. I was thinking about redoing the water tonight and trying to get more of an even dry. I am going to be messing anything up to hit it with the water again?

    If your playing any infield position, You want a shallow pocket in the glove to release the ball faster if you playing the outfield then a deeper pocket is needed etc.

  • @jrvarghese4773
    @jrvarghese4773 ปีที่แล้ว

    Aso uses hot water from the tap and pours it over the glove with a cup for accuracy, avoiding the inner glove. He then pounds it and stretches the living shit out of it. Then he recommends playing catch to naturally form the pocket and to form to the hand and fingers. Ultimately he recommends that one just plays catch but this method speeds up the breaking in process.

    Rawling Glove breaker Specifically said to not use heat/ovens/water with their specific gloves as it will cause issues in long term care and maintenance of the gloves.
    Maybe you should have just watched Rawlings video for yourself and tried to be an instant professional of something that you have only done a couple of times in your life. They are called professionals for a reason.
    The very first step is to work the crease from the palm to the pocket. What your doing will work but the glove will lighten up and fall over like a pancaked glove. The goal is to break it in so the pinky and thumb come together even.Then after working in the glove for a while it’s time to get her oiled and conditioned for the pocket with thick wide rubber bands for 24 hrs undo it play catch for an hour or two then mallet the crap out of the creases and pockets already developed. Wash rinse repeat every except Re-Applying oil/lanolin/conditioner

    There shouldn't be steam coming out, or that much. And 90 degrees WITH a blow dryer is just as bad as putting it in the oven or microwave

    You do not want to use any Boiling warter it will ruein the leather 150- 160 thats enough etc.

  • @TrueBlueYou
    @TrueBlueYou 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I felt incredible remorse for your beautiful leather glove after watching that. Yes, this method does work, but you didn’t condition the glove after the hot water leached all the oil out of it. You can do this, but make sure you condition the leather with a lanolin rich conditioner afterwards

    • @thurstonhowelllll948
      @thurstonhowelllll948 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      pure oil - I was told, is what you want - not conditioner

    • @dabberdan3200
      @dabberdan3200 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rawlings Glovolium -Glove Oil-It’s a bit of a misnomer because the glove oil is both an oil (Lanolin) and a mixture of non toxic cleaners,emollients,emulsions,conditioners

    • @dabberdan3200
      @dabberdan3200 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rawlings specifically says heat/oven is a clear no no with their gloves due to long term issues with leather degradation due to lack of moisture. It’s just like our skin and it constantly needs moisture to stay flexible and tough.

  • @codyjones9361

    No one fall for this. It works but it damages the laces and causes the leather to become plastic like. I did this to my catchers mitt and after a few months I had to re-lace it.

    hot water is not the best way to form and break in a glove. it weakens the leather and just is getting your glove moldy. yes it has happens quiet often.

    • @deplorable_bitter_clinger7482
      @deplorable_bitter_clinger7482 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not if you dry it right away like they did. Water will not hurt a (high quality) leather glove IF (notice I said if) you dry it promptly. Leave it wet like that, stuff it away in a bag etc. and you are guaranteed to get mold. If you think the leather is a little dry after the treatment, then apply your favorite glove conditioner (which you should already have if own a $200+ glove).

  • @bremms1
    @bremms1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If done properly it will break in a glove faster. Still not a huge fan. I have an HOH with dual welting as the only one I broke in this way and it puckered the leather in between the welting.
    It was my third line infield glove and is now my second.

  • @joshsbaseballtips7914
    @joshsbaseballtips7914 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Don't do the hot water treatment! it completely ruins your glove you never want to soak water into a leather glove. it is just going to make it heavier and not even help it.

    • @tamahawk175
      @tamahawk175 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Incorrect. Hot water will loosen the leather and let it form healthier than glove oil or other methods. Cold water is unhealthy for leather and will ruin it.

      Get some Wilson or Nakona glove conditioner. Get a mallet and beat it. Play catch. Play catch or couch catch with a weighted baseball you can get a set of 3 weighted baseballs on Amazon for cheap I think they are 10 11 12oz blue yellow and black. Watch what Aso does in his videos when pounding the glove. Good luck!

    Aso is a soccer player?? What?? Shigeaki Aso is a Glove Guru for the Wilson company, who actually invented and mastered the hot water break in you are describing here... Aso is a master glove builder/designer who has tested and recommended the best materials for professional baseball all around the world... many of his products are used in the MLB, the Japanese Pro League and many others. Basically, you are using HIS methodology (with some variations based on YOUR taste). But I mean, saying he's a soccer player... come on!
