I sometimes wonder if the surge of overly sexual movies that came out after American Pie was caused by the film or if it was just a cultural thing at the time. I’m thinking of movies like Scooby Doo live action (A kids movie that was way sexual 😂), how the grinch stole Christmas (the grinch literally lands in some girls boobs), old school, road trip, dodgeball, White Castle, Van Wilder, etc.. because looking at the 90’s and their PG-13+ movies, they weren’t nearly as bad lol. Not to mention all the teen and college movies that came out not longer after.

They are funny films but tragically realistic. They're like a homage of the late 90s - early 2000s generation of youngsters.

One of the most crazy things about the scene where Jim turns the web cam on Nadia is that in the 90s the internet was so new it wasn't even considered a serious thing to have a nude video on this small little place "the internet" where most people would never see it. I remind very well MOST of the people standing up and leaving the cinema and complaining because they were disgusted. Around the end of the first half of the movie, right before the break, the cinema was half empty; people continued to leave even during the 2nd part, until just a bunch of us were left. I was shocked by that, not by the movie but by so many people living abruptly, i had never seen something like that before (neither i would see something like that after). Few chairs by me there was three guys enjoying the movie & then I found out they were all my oldest brother's friends because they told him I was there watching american pie and my brother literally beated the crap out of me.

The sequels are worth a watch too, up to and including 'Reunion'. There are a few spin offs, like 'Band Camp', and 'Naked Mile' which are watchable, but without the same cast, it's not the same.

I was 19 when this came out and I assure you, it wasn't how we talked or what we talked about--even among friends you didn't discuss your sex life for fear of it being used against you. I didn't see myself or any of my friends represented in this movie, just Hollywood archetypes (Finch especially). The most accurate depiction of my generation I've ever seen in a movie is KIDS (1995, dir. Larry Clark). Even though my own teen years had nowhere near the sex, drugs, and violence, everything else is dead-on accurate. It's a tough watch though.
And guys have always had things for older women, they just didn't used to admit it as much. The coinage of the term "MILF" made it easier for people to cop to it, although it took time.
