    Thank you Aaron. I often wonder about mushrooms I see in my yard, neighborhood, parks and retail areas.

    Funeral Bells grow on the dead stumps around my home. Thank you for the video, I was researching for awhile to figure out which ones exactly they was, very similar looking mushrooms! I love mycology! My favorite is the Hydnellum Peckii.

      Yeah my email is in the description of the video, but you might have better luck and a quicker response if you join some of the Facebook groups about mushroom identification, especially in one specific to your area. But if you send me a picture I'll do my best! Please be sure to include pictures of the underside and the stem.

    I compost or mow down every mushroom I find in my yard that I cant immediately identify as edible because I have two old slightly nutty dogs who will eat just about anything they run across from deer poo to dandelions and mushrooms. You would think I starved them instead of spending hours and big bucks making them organic homemade dog food.

    The mycorrhizal mushrooms mentioned are extremely unlikely to be on a lawn, unless there is also a large associated tree in that lawn.

    • @mushroomwonderland1
      @mushroomwonderland1  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's definitely true. I did mention that. The three places I know in the greater Puget sound area, in Tacoma Washington, on the UW campus, and in Burlington the death caps are all growing on lawns, with trees nearby.

    • @fabianforster5980
      @fabianforster5980 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'v found death caps and muscaria as far as 10m from the next tree. This could very well be on a neighboring lawn. However, the tree actually doesn't need to be tall. A typical mistake by beginner foragers here around Berlin, Germany is to just look for tall trees in lush vegetation. I'v found many porcini, deceivers and amanitas associated with trees not taller than my hip in quite barren settings. The crucial factor is how much nitrogen is available in the soil or how dry the ground is. The fungus provides easier access to nitrogen and water, which is what the tree gets from the symbiosis. Most lawns are probably well watered and fertilized which should "prevent" many mycorrhizal mushrooms imo.

  • @gabet7333

    Or If you like how flying agaric mushrooms look you could also set a mushroom down next to a pine tree or leaf tree like mapple where the tree drops its leafs or needles and let it grow new mushrooms where you set them. If your lucky they will come back next year and you won't of had to of dune much. It's a eye pleasing mushroom to find like a flower. It's easy to teach people not to eat them.

    • @mushroomwonderland1
      @mushroomwonderland1  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amanita will not associate with a maple tree..but perhaps pine.

    Why do they grow in a ring? Spore ring? But why only the edges of the ring and not inside the ring? Makes me think ringworm.
    Do all amanita look like the fly agaric? I ate some today…
    I bought some soil at Ho Depot and it is full of LBM, so every day I am picking them from amongst my seedlings. Haven’t tried eating any yet, they smell flavorless of all mushrooms I’ve smelled. Also, they have almost no body or substance (meat) to them, so not much for eating. I’ll stick to the big fat meaty mushies.
    @8:05 there’s one funeral bell (leftest) showing it’s gills, then two facing up (right), the one that is lower on screen and not the right most, has a very clear skull (reflection of light from above?) at the center of it’s cap. Pretty appropriate for those Funeral Bells.
    You should never eat any mushrooms from a lawn, period. They are sprayed and grown in stuff that you should never consume. Don’t become a glyphosate, or some other (like fubells or deadcaps), statistic.

  • @gabet7333

    You shouldn't be trying to eradicate a mushroom just because it's known ad poisonous or toxic. All that means is medical use or benefits are unknown at this time. All poisonous or toxic plants are the same

      @@mushroomwonderland1 I clearly remember an incident from my childhood in kindergarten when another kid ate a mushroom from the lawn. I don't know which species it was but what I do remember is that they were hospitalised for some time. I think you're doing a great job with videos like these. I teach my kids not to touch any mushroom except if and when I tell them it's ok. They know that there are tons of extremely deadly mushrooms and they are still very fascinated and mycophile.
