    Good thing but very unsightly... I'm happy to find this info because I have them growing in mine from all the spring rain! Appreciate the info! 👋🏾🙃

      We tend to get them in the spring and summer. The backyard has very poor drainage and lots of leaves that fall in autumn. When we have torrential downpours in spring and summer the water just sits and the backyard looks like a lake. Thus the mushrooms start growing probably from decaying leaves stuck down in the lawn that couldn't be raked. They might be beneficial and the sign of a healthy lawn but they can be beneficial and healthy in someone else's yard. Around here we like a nice lush green carpet of grass without any mushrooms or weeds growing in it. They tend to leave "holes" in the yard that need to be patched too. 😬

    I had a fairy ring in my lawn for several years. Thle lawn looked ugly, because it was over fertilized on one side of the ring, but it also became brown on the other side of the ring. The fungus was producing nitrogen but also making the soil hydrophob. Finally I decided to dig out the fungus, because all other treatment didn't help. I had to dig out 2 cubic meters of soil. I believe this is 70 cubic feet? My fungus was a "Nelkenschwindling". Now my lawn is looking much better.

    England . Mushrooms in the lawn are a seasonal joy of nature in autumn ( fall ) . Mycorrhizal fungi are beneficial to many plants.

    Ok now I've pinpointed the problem, leaves that were left on the ground for awhile and when I finally decided to rake it all up they were decomposing and a horrible stench came from it! Never again will I neglect to rake those leave up!

    I live in Indiana. I found a pretty big white mushroom in my lawn today. It had a pretty odd smell, almost like urine. That's all that I can compare it to. I thought about taking a bite, but I restrained myself.

    Both wild violets and wild strawberries are perfectly edible. Why do you think strawberries got cultivated at the first place.

    • @FerrariTeddy

      There are fake wild strawberries

    • @GreatKeny
      @GreatKeny 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FerrariTeddy There is nothing looking like wild strawberries that are not edible (including Potentilla indica which is probably the fake one you are talking about). They may not taste as good or no taste at all to some people but still are perfectly edible. Same goes to wild raspberries and blackberries.

    Have you ever tried using Molasses and potassium bicarbonate mixed in water to eliminate mushrooms after pulling them?

    • @OrganoLawn
      @OrganoLawn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, we believe that the majority of mushrooms are a good thing so we are not trying to get rid of them. Perhaps your method works, but our goal is to create an environment with a living soil. The molasses is a good thing but not sure what the potassium bicarbonate would do to the microbiome.

    Just don't eat them (unless you REALLY know what you are doing), keep an eye on young children and explain the dangers of eating random things you find growing outside (applies to plants too), you should be good. Do us some good to know about the local plants and mushrooms and to teach our kids.

    No trees But Mushrooms on a Brand New Lawn

    • @OrganoLawn
      @OrganoLawn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just because there are not trees doesn't mean that there isn't lignin in the soil. The new sod could have been grown with a compost that had tree leaves or tree bark or a compost could have been brought in prior to putting in the new lawn.
