Jimmy Murphy Man United Asst. Manager 1946-71

It's easy to think that United's post war success was all about the genius of Scotsman, Matt Busby, but he couldn't have done it alone, especially when disaster struck in 1958. Busby needed a right hand, a man to bounce ideas off, an equal, someone to make him complete - Welsh drill sergeant Jimmy Murphy was that man.
Any Man United player that came through the youth team from the 1940's to the 1960's would probably say that the person who had the greatest, positive affect on their game, was Jimmy Murphy, not Sir Matt. Jimmy would mould boys with talent, then pass them onto Busby to become champions and Old Trafford legends.
