Thanks Brian, I always learn alot from your videos. Painting is an addiction, when I retire I will buy a workshop and panel paint my own project cars for a hobby. Your attention to detail is also appreciated Brian because this is where the job differentiates itself from being ordinary to being outstanding.
Hey Brian, love all your videos. Do you think you could do a video on proper air compressor setup and air line tips? Maybe explain proper/minimum tank size, minimum CFM, motor size/power and what kind of air compressors are best and what to avoid? I'm sure there is some DIY guys wanting to start spraying but want to know if their compressor can handle it such as myself. THANK YOU!
Are you asking for psi range with base coat and clear? If so I never spray base above 20psi. 13-16 depending on your environment is perfect. Clear I keep it around 25-29psi but unlike these guys I spray fast passes and stack my coats if needed. I use a kobolt 250psi tank with water traps.
This is a workshop with a workshop compressor and refrigerating air drying equipment. He uses guns that run your hobby/DIY compressors flat in no time. There is one video where he uses a LVLP gun that would be suitable for home use (spray guns for small compressors). But that's not good for production as its too slow for them. His home videos also rely on rattle guns or that turbine air supply unit with the special guns.

Did you re- clear the whole thing? Or no clear on the black? I layer my base coat, cleared now I’m trying to figure out if I should 600 the whole thing, tape, spray second color, remove tape and clear all of it again. Or if I can just tape, shoot second color, clear, then pull tape and wet sand buff polish…. Thanks for any help!
Brian, About 18 years ago, my son and I painted an 1986 Monte Carlo with silver. It was base/clear, we did two things a little different and not sure if we got away and got lucky. These old cars used to do a 3 inch or so, narrow black bottom line on the rocker onto the frame. When standing back a distance, it gave it a slimming effect. I don’t know if “Fine Line” tape was around, but I used regular pin-stripe tape, left over as cars were taped in house for imports as domestics were actual paint. Using just an aired out tack rag, I tapped the bottom, scuffed with 36” paper, shot the black. Came off clean and no paint afters 3 hrs of dry time. Secondly, we a chrome double fine stipe tape on the top body line. We shot 3 coats of clear, wet sand up to 3k, buffer and polished. 3 year later, it was still mint condition. Did we get lucky or what? The chrome upper freaked people out as it was under the clear, a 3/16” + 1/8” tape!
Fantastic, I needed this video for my next project. Thankyou for the details for a factory looking finish. I have seen great paint jobs with trim painted over and it looks half assed.

Hi Brian....I sprayed my bumpers today...I have a similar color to the bar in your video...just the middle part. I'm going to follow this video...in setting up. I know you used satin in this video....would it still be ok to use metallic as base, with two coats of clear on those edges....or would I need to use blending thinner. My edge that runs around the middle of the lower bar, is not a square edge like this vid....but like a shallow V shape.
I have been looking for a good tutorial on two tone fades and what way they should fade ie black into white or is it white into black. Or darker on top or is lighter on top
Do you have to clear coat the first color before taping up for the second? And how long do you have to wait before you can apply the tape? Or can I paint the first color tape off the edge and paint the second color and then clear coat the whole Hood? Thank you for all your videos and all the information that you teach us.
Hey Brian. I have an issue that I need help with. I have a 60gal compressor 3.2 hp. 3/8 50ft hose. My issue is that every time I set my gun at 29 psi the pressure drops To 20 psi. When I start painting. I have an DeVilbiss flg 4 and an Iwata w 400 belleria. I have a Devilbiss gauge that I got with the flg 4 that I use for both. Please if you can, your advice will be greatly appreciated. Also I have learnt sooo much from you. Your teachings are priceless.
Your 2000 GMC Safari van 2 wheel drive it's a small minivan. How much would you charge to be painted the same color 6 clear coats and platinum flake metallic bronze is the original color?
Brian the video is amazing. Questions: I am painting my corrolla bumpers so I sanded with 320 an apply primer. I have new front bumpers and old rear bumpers. The question is: I need to apply sealer in the bumpers? In the video you apply sealer and immediately apply paint. How many time from sealer to paint i need to wait? Thanks E. Padilla

Hey Brian! Awesome job on this TL and i am enjoying the progress on your channel and as well as Honda Acura Classic. I have a question with regards to painting front bumper covers. I am having issues with a re-painted bumper with no info on the previous paint job. The bumper cover is chipping over time and appears to chip down to the primer. I am thinking of taking the bumper back down to the original substrate for a new paint job. My question is what are the things i can do to increase the maximum paint resilience from rock chips? For example: my Acura TL 07 has superior paint versus the daily 05 corolla. My plan is substrate, 2k epoxy primer, black sealer, black base, black pearl top coat, 2k clear. Thanks Brian! Stay safe out there!
Hi Brian, Great videos! I'm learning alot. I'm restoring a '47 Cadillac. I want to paint the dash and garnish moldings with urethane paint for the durability. I'll get them to bare steel, what steps and products do you recommend to use. I want them dark grey with a clear. Thanks, Bob.
@@PaintSociety will you clarify wich products you recommend. I've never painted a car before, but I'm going to try it, after all, it's just paint. Is that an epoxy primer, 2k urethane sealer, then urethane color? No clear? There are so many options out there, I'm not sure which brands give the best results. How about a good gun for me to use. I've seen you rate a few. Most you seem to get good results with. Even the $15 H.F. I want a good gun (2- $300?) , but I dont want to spend alot on one that I might use once a year. Thanks for your time.
As a commercial industrial painter I’m redoing my classic truck but can’t figure how do the stamped letter tailgate. Could I base clear the gate then scuff entire gate base letters and clear the whole gate again
is there any advantage in clear coating the first color and 2 toning afterwards or can you lay down your first color, then two tone, then clear it all?
in this example, you can't clear coat them at the same time because the two tone black portion is a matte or satin, not high gloss. If the two tone color is also gloss then yes, you definitely want to clear coat them at the same time as it would be much more time consuming to do the two colors separately with baking and/or drying times in between. TC Annapolis MD
Noticed you said satin, if everything was going to be cleared would you spray silver base, tape off, spray black then remove tape and clear everything or still spray base and clear then mask and do black and clear separately? Won't that create a hard line?
Brian, thanks so much for all the videos you do some solid and easily understandable videos. Quick question, why did you clear after applying the grey and not let that dry do your base coat black and then clear the whole thing in one shot?
Hey Brian. I currently have a matco 6 inch palm sander. I'm new to this I've asked a couple questions but I just started sanding the car today and noticed how difficult it is to get in those dips from body lines. My sander just has the peel and stick how can I attach a interface pad so I can reach these areas?
The interface pads are for velcro backup pads. You made need to invest in a velcro 6in backup pad but that means you'll also need velcro sandpaper as well. Also, there are many areas you're just going to have to do by hand. A piece of Scotch-Brite scuff pad works well as a backup pad when hand sanding. When hand sanding you'll generally want to go down a grit also. For example, if you are DA'ing with 400 you would want to hand sand with 500 or 600.
Love these videos, I’m a die hard Acura fan keep these videos up with more Acura/ Honda tech videos. & if u can do a 2016 tlx aspec lip video that would b great :)
Hey Brian, any tips for college kids that don’t have a shop or garage to work in? I’ve just got an apartment and am looking at renting a storage unit w/ electricity. I am completely repainting my car after I finish repairs. Thanks!
A lot depends on the area where you will rent your storage unit or garage. You need to be in a location where people won't start freaking out if you're making a mess prepping or covering the area with fumes when painting. TC Annapolis MD
Definitely not, it's too thin, would dry way too fast, and completely different animal...when the reducer dried away there would be nothing left behind. It's unfortunate but many paint supply stores act like they've never heard of basecoat blender which is basically a clear base coat but it's definitely necessary or advantageous on many lighter to medium metallic colors. Like how you explain yourself. I just found ur and Bodie Vision vids and like very much. My questions 1st you prep then paint bumper outside bit then move inside to paint trim? 2nd question why the 3 different guns? I'm getting ready to purchase my 1st gun but my budget will only allow one. I don't want to spend $$ on different cheap spray guns so what would you advise Keep up the great vids learning every time I watch
@paint society could you tell us or make a video about your thoughts on painting a whole vehicle with a turbine hvlp? I've heard that stage 4 and 5 are good for auto painting but not sure because there aren't that many videos online about auto painting and turbines. Apollo is one of the turbine manufacturers of turbines and they show full body painting but with their maximiser 3000 which is like 6,300 bucks. Thanks again.
@@PaintSociety awesome I'll stay tuned for it and then let us know your opinion on it and if it possible to get really pro results with a "cheaper" stage 4 or 5 turbine. 👍
SEM trim black is a fantastic product. You’re better off with the quart though, the cans tend to spatter when they start getting empty. Plus they are pricey.

The same steps as painting any other part of a vehicle. Repair the chips either by feather edging or filling, then spot prime your repair areas. Then you'll be sanding the entire thing with 400 to 600 on a dual action sander. Remember, you're not trying to remove/strip the old finish but only to dull the surface for adhesion.

Hi am a big fan, why did you put the fine line tape after and not first?
So you can pull it off first while it is still wet.

Thanks ah lot mega man🔥
Is sealer basically primer?
Like how you explain yourself. I just found ur and Bodie Vision vids and like very much.
My questions
1st you prep then paint bumper outside bit then move inside to paint trim?
2nd question why the 3 different guns? I'm getting ready to purchase my 1st gun but my budget will only allow one. I don't want to spend $$ on different cheap spray guns so what would you advise
Keep up the great vids learning every time I watch
You don’t need three guns. You can get the cc500 from Eastwood and it will do it all. Get yourself a cheaper gun for primer.
I’m going to demo the 3000
@@PaintSociety awesome I'll stay tuned for it and then let us know your opinion on it and if it possible to get really pro results with a "cheaper" stage 4 or 5 turbine. 👍
SEM trim black is a fantastic product. You’re better off with the quart though, the cans tend to spatter when they start getting empty. Plus they are pricey.
Very great tip thats what i was looking for thanks my favorite show I'm smashing my like botton kaboooooooooooooom

do you need to sand high build primer and what grit sandpaper
Always. 320/400/600
@@PaintSociety what am i looking to sand down , is it just to make a smoother surface
In that black paint you will need to put hardener for extra strength because that paint scratch so easy without it!
We will test it and see. Good tip.
@@PaintSociety happy to tell tips ! I put about 20% of hardener dont put over 30% because it will get shinier
what are the steps to paint a fiberglass tonneau cover it has a few chips [s and scratches it around 6 years old
The same steps as painting any other part of a vehicle. Repair the chips either by feather edging or filling, then spot prime your repair areas. Then you'll be sanding the entire thing with 400 to 600 on a dual action sander. Remember, you're not trying to remove/strip the old finish but only to dull the surface for adhesion.
I am in Okeechobee where r u guys
very nice video brooo!!!!
