Mark King. The only person on the planet who can sing, play ridiculous basslines AND chew gum at the same time! Awesome.
Look up Les Claypool.
On chewing gum
Dennis Edwards - Hold my beer 😆
😆
Pedro Aznar Is a number 1 in south América
Can you say Geddy Lee?? ......Sure you can......I knew you could!!!
I just realized Alan Murphy died 3 months to the day after this show...
RIP Alan, you changed the way I thought about being a guitar player forever.
Rip Alan.
A true musician. Never forgotten, always in our heart
Despite it been a fantastic to watch, It really is so sad. I was 19 at the time and I had no idea.
Proper virtuoso, gone too soon.
@@stephenbailes2750 indeed
Amazing player
Wasn’t this Alan’s last live concert, Man was was ill and knew he was going, pure class from the start, and still playing the guitar like a boss, missed but never forgotten… RIP AM
exactly so. Working to the end.
I was there, front row! 3 months to the day Alan Murphy passed away😢💔 So glad I got to say hello to him that night, RIP Alan ❤️🙏
That's so great you got to say hello to him. So so great.
That was a bad ass song live
The great Alan Murphy........underrated still...Rip 🕊
wow, Mark King is such a monster of a musician. playing THESE bass lines whilst singing the lead vocals is what I call multi-tasking. not a lot of people could do that.
My God, the bravery and dignity of Alan is astounding. He was dying.
He probably felt very sick but helped to raise funds for The Princes Trust because he was part of the band and they had been requested to perform.
Found it slightly offensive that Alan's solo was buried in the mix towards the end. Not because he was dying, and carrying off the whole thing with courage, but because the sound "person" was just rubbish, and buried it, like an amateur who didn't even learn the set.
I wonder how many wonderful performances Alan might have given over the next 30 years if he had lived.
When Alan plays there is a Lesson to learn, indeed the mix is horrible Alan was more worthed
Yeah, I had no idea, Jesus.
@@e.g.systems6146 the sound engineer for their set was probably Kerry. He would have given Alan all he could with what he had. Don't blame shit on people you don't know and the run sheet they had to stick with!
Level 42 are certified geniuses. True musicians
Very strongh .....yeah!!!!!
Of course they are
Alan was pure class. Such a fabulously talented musician.
Gary Husbands drumming is unreal, so much energy
Loved Gary's drumming.
Late to the party as usual but...
There should be a "Gary Husband" algorithm for all drum machines and DAW programs.
The man is truly a phenomenon 🤩
Gary Husband, Mark King and Alan Murphy - Three awesome players.
Don't forget Mike Lindup.
Yes and barrack Obama on keyboards 🤣
@@nostreamavailable9090 Mike is billion times better. Obama is worthless
@@wickedartist1451 no arguments from me mate
LOL

Great to see Alan Murphy in action. A totally classy player for the ages. RIP.
This must be the last ever film of the late Alan Murphy. This is the only time I've seen him play a Yamaha MSG. A lovely guitar for an excellent guitar player. RIP Alan.
Hiya. My brother worked for Yamaha as a piano tuner. Could have got any instrument at a discount. Being a bass player, TRB or RB would have been my favourite. The reason I'm replying to your comment is that I've never seen anybody else play an MSG. My brother reckoned Alan might have had an endorsement to pay that model, because to be fair, it wasn't the most cosmetic guitar out of Yamaha's stable. The SG 2000 will always be the game changer for me. Oh. By the way, I still never got the bass. And as far as I remember, if an instrument didn't make the grade, they were skipped, and if anybody tried to nick one out of work hours, they were sacked! Keep safe.🎸🤓
@@nickphillips7319 I have two Yamahas. An SG and an SF1200 (the one with the built-in distortion). From what I have read, it is a Tube screamer circuit. Don't know if that is true
Murph rocking even severely hampered is legendary stuff.
Man for man the supreme Level 42 line-up.
This live performance of Heaven in my Hands lifts me to the heavens of the mind . A monumental , amazing performance .
MK was a BEAST on the bass! Just like rhat other MK was on guitar. The 80's had the best and finest musicians ever. There was so much talent, just unbelievable. 👍👍❤️
That bass sound ❤️
Best musicians ever, rest in peace Alan Murphy. ✌️😙
Fine song from a fine band. Mark King singing & playing the bass so easily is frightening!👍👍
What a masterpiece
Great band saw them 4 time's at Plymouth one of the best bass players of all time.
Fantastic band
#Level42 are very talented indeed.
Superb performance all round.
Mark King in the 80s...😍😋
What a band...
Mhhhhh. ......You are The best......In town.....
They were truly outstanding , pioneers of funk that never got quite as much credit or recognition as they deserved .
In my dreams tonight level42 and me Teckmasse make the music for the princess
ALAN M. A TRUE HEROE! LOVE U 4EVER MAN! RIP
Love those progressions!
How Mark plays bass and sings at the same time, it's just unreal. I need to pretend it's not really happening.
You forgot chewing gum...
Great.In 3 weeks Level42 live for me 🎶🎼🎵🥳🎉
omg this version 💙
Alan Murphy RIP
Google: Murphy's Breeze WMV for some beautiful guitar work by Alan with Paparazzi.
oh la la great !!!! with the beautiful Diana Thanks
All Alan Murphy fans reading this, Alan is featured with Go West: The Tube 1985.
And
Go West: The Runaway Train Concert 1987.
Also with Level 42: Fait Accompli (Documentary 1988).
A genius at work.
Thank you for this.
My favourite Level 42 track! 🔥
This rithym section accelerates quicker then a BMW M3
Alan is so brave and wonderful here
Gary Husband on point here
HEAVEN IN MY HANDS
(Mark King / Rowland Charles Gould)
[L.P. "HEAVEN IN MY HANDS" (1988)]
LEVEL 42
I'm going nowhere
gotta face up to it
gotta wake up to it
I feel so guilty
Killing time is a sin
there's no way you can win
A damn burst of dreams flows thru' me
they show me where I could be
Flash point feelings flow
thru' my mind
When my friends tell me
you just can't connect,
you ain't got no respect
They tell me nothing
'cause I know about that
Yes, I know about that
I'm not gonna take what people say
Don't feel that I belong today
Sense of freedom and
sense of pride
From the mountains to the sea
I'll run across this land
Looking out for strength and beauty
a diamond in the sand
I will chase the four winds over
trying to understand
And I won't stop until I'm holding
Heaven in my hands
I won't let nobody
turn me off, off the track
now there's no turning back
Won't let no worries
turn my head inside down
now there's no room for doubt
I'm heading for my destiny
and it feels electric to me
Flash point feelings flow
thru' my mind
I was lonely going nowhere
drowning on dry land
I was almost stranded there a
ship wreck on the sand
But now I'll chase the whole world over
making my demands
And I won't stop until I'm holding
Heaven in my hands
From the mountains to the sea
I'll run across this land (I'll go with you anywhere!)
Looking out for strength and beauty
a diamond in the sand (And I would chase anywhere!)
And I will chase the four winds over
trying to understand (And nothin' can stop me!)
And I won't stop until I'm holding
Heaven in my hands
I was lonely going nowhere
drowning on dry land (And I was a ship wreck!)
I was almost stranded there
a ship wreck on the sand (I'll go with you anywhere!)
But now I'll chase the whole world over
making my demands (And I won't stop, babe!)
And I won't stop until I'm holding
Heaven in my hands
Mark King is a genius but he reminds me of the actor in the old 'Confessions of' films Robin Asquith lol
Askwith
He reminds me of Vigo from Ghostbusters 2!
They edited out a bit of the beginning of this video . It was Prince "elephant ears" Charles and Princess Diana taking their seats .
4:05 the blond background singer in the pink dress, is that Kylie Minogue? 🤔🤔
Nicola kerr
Looks a bit like Rik Mayall from Bottom in the thumbnail.
Was this Alan's last performance
No as they did a performance in Late 89 for their song Take care of yourself!
possibly
Maybe his last live performance. He did other TV appearances but as far as I'm aware only promo stuff for the single Take Care of Yourself
How come in the intro Prince "elephant ears" Charles and Lady Diana sitting down was edited out ?
Looks like a clean feed rather than the BBC broadcast feed
I'd like to have all three of those female singers as my wives . Oh wait a minute , im not a Mormon or a Saudi....dammit !
Nichola Kerr (pink dress), Beverlei Brown (red dress), Dashiell Rae (green dress).
Queen Elizabeth's eldest child is a female . I forgot her name . Why isn't she first in line to the throne when Elizabeth dies ?
He possibly could have more time in this life . At that time the despicable big pharma industry pushed through many governments around the world the so called anti viral drug AZT . It hastened the death of aids patients . just search it or watch the movie Dallas Buyers Club -- true story -- how corrupt big pharma and big money got this drug through which killed aids patients . big pharma doesn't care about safety . they just want to make a quick big buck and take off or hide their profits before they can be found and indicted for negligence and corruption . And how alternative cocktails of other antivirals, vitamins, supplements were adding years to the lives of persons with full blown aids . The last video he made before he died with level 42 song called take care of yourself , Alan definitely looked like an AZT poisoned corpse ready to drop at any moment .
No, Prince Charles is her eldest child (born Nov 1948). Princess Anne was born in August 1950. Then Andrew in 1960 & Edward in 1964.
I don't know if the guitarist is trying to laugh or trying to dance LOL
You can hear the gum! It is revolting.
Great bass player but with a shit sound, sounds like a rusty spring on a gate. 😂
Play it Alan! Nice one. RIP
It’s a terrible tragedy that Murphy died so young. We were robbed of his music too soon.
Great to see the brilliant Alan Murphy, RIP
That alembic is cutting through the mix so soul fully, Mark is the man
The backing singers are very good. Well rehearsed.
one of them Kyile!
Nichola Kerr (pink dress), Beverlei Brown (red dress), Dashiell Rae (green dress).
Not to mention BLOODY LUVVERLY TO LOOK AT TOO 🤩🤩🤩
Featuring the great Alan Murphy fresh from his stint with GO WEST and Nick Heyward etc etc
Mark King's bass strings getting battered there for the benefit of real music taste across the globe...!
Great song/performance, but I'll forever be in love with the backup singer on the far right. :)
far left for me lol
alan was such a gift. 😢
3:23
Alan was a God
cool scar on Mark King's left cheek . Alan Murphy is in a better place than this bitter earth now .
The scare on marks cheek is the result of a dog bite as a kid
He got it in a bar fight in Leeds.
Awesome Band
This song hit the spot
Gary Husband's drum fill at 1:36 Wow !
Pretty spectacular stuff.
Glad you noticed it too. That fill has intrigued me ever since I first heard this performance. Even at half speed I can’t work out what he does. It sounds like he starts the fill on the floor toms or the kick and ends on the snare, just before the cymbal crashes, but you watch him and he seems to start on the snare, then moves to the middle toms, then cymbals. I know they’ve got a perc. on stage too, but I don’t think that explains it. Either way, it’s a blistering fill! Hey, Gary! If you read this, tell us what you played there.
Gary Rocks!!!!!
I loved his guitar work on Nick Heywards warning signs
They edited out the intro to this video . It began with Prince Elephant Ears, oops ! , I mean Prince Charles and Lady Di coming in and taking their seats
The best in town.
Does anyone have the lineup for that performance? Is that Steve Norman (Spandau Ballet) on Sax and who is on percussion? Looks like Jimmy Malen (Formerly Roxy Music - Also sadly gone from this earth).
Krys Mach I reckon on sax
What are the names of the backing vocalists?
ド天才だよ
f**king god of bass.
LOL on backup dancer dancing. Looks like they're doing pottery class.
And why Mike Lindup vocal and keyboard part seemingly going low and Mark have to handle all vocal parts instead trading the vocal lines in original.
A bit bland live version to me. But still great and Alan Murphy guitar parts was the best thing ever.
