@@chrisjenkins5846 I'm not convinced the 80s was a mess. In hindsight, I see the progressions, the mutations as well as the splintering of genres into sub-genres all going hand in hand with new technologies, new fascinations, new excesses and extravagances happening in quite logical and justifiable way. Even the halfway point of Live Aid was a neat and tidy watershed moment. Also how people looked and how fashion developed expressed the music in an illustrative, obvious way. If there was a messy decade in popular culture I'd say it was the 90s....what a lazy, messy trash can of postmodern litter that was.

This song brings me back to some of my happiest times in my life my daughter was a brand new baby who made me the happiest man in the world and I was in love with her mother I hated to go to work and leave my baby and could not wait to get home to play with her now she's 40 years old and she's still my lil girl.
I never appreciate this song when I was a child until now - at the age of 48, when I heard it on the radio whilst working as a nurse in a dementia home. Wonderful baseline, melodies and falsetto.
I've now watched this video at least 50 times. It has everything: Great crafted song, incredible vocals including the three backing singers (who never seem to get recognized or identified as they were great!), rhythm extraordinaire, excellent musicianship, Mark's crazy ass slap basing, Mark's infectious smile, Mike's solid and not screechy falsetto and his engagement with the crowd, and beautiful Alan giving the music world a lesson in love as he plays in his final days. to me this one of the best live musical performances ever by any musical act.
The three backing vocalists were great - watch them on all of the other performances from this Prince's Trust concert. They had to back up the multiple artists with their differing signature styles and hit songs. That girl in white looked like Farrah Fawcett with Marilyn Monroe eyes....
Mark in that full suit adds a lot of class to the performance, too. I honestly like this live performance better than the album version because of the energy and ability to see the band really getting into it.
Such a great performance from Level 42. Also catch a glimpse of the Smurph’s solo at 2:59. Bittersweet. May have been one of his last public performances. Great to see him but difficult to see him so painfully thin. He died just 3 months later. 😔
Aids is a terrifying disease, so many artists, actors and influential people were lost thanks to that horrible disease. Thankfully, with modern medication, it cannot kill you.
My adolescence was blessed listening to bands like Level 42 .... professional musicians that besides being excellent instrumentalists have a sensational funk balance! Thank you God! For being born and raised at that time!
Playing bass this way and singing is a true massacre. + bubble gum, Gee. No other living soul on Earth can do it. Hats off! You've deserved all of them high in the air.
This song will NEVER GET OLD! I was extremely lucky to have parents with amazing music to taste since I'm an 89 born gal who has been jamming to this song since I was born (there is evidence of 3 year old Me surprising my parents by singing this song despite my first language is Spanish 😆) This is one of my All time favorite songs ❤️🥰
