@@joel8750 I said that 11 years ago, still agree with most of it......it's just that they obviously were a Ramones tribute band......nothing wrong with that.lots of enjoyable tunes on that first LP/early singles.Entertainment.
@@jonnyzchivago7623 I see what you mean. They are compared to the Ramones in almost any article on them. They didn’t do anything particularly original, but yeah, the songs are fun to listen to for me regardless. Most early punk sounds like the Ramones and Heartbreakers to me most of the time.
@@joel8750 Yeah, i'm always railing against americans who think they invented Punk Rock as we know and love it today....yes The Ramones provided a basic musical template that was copied by the less enlightened of the Uk groups, but they had nothing else 'punk' about them, they were like a street Glam band really,in there uniforms and concept(great as it was)......Richard Hell had spiky hair, like david Bowie, but nothing else punky.....in fact there were no punk groups in New York as we know them today. The Art and ,politics, and style was totally invented in London/Manchester..Ramones..Proto-Punk. Play an Lp of The Damned,Pistols,Clash, Adverts etc, next to the Ramones/HeartBreakers,Voidoids and they sound totally different.....as for Sham 69,there was nothing that sounded like that before 1978......i could write abourt this all day. The lurkers were probably the best of the rest...although they did sound like the Ramones. Another aspect is that the UK groups moved on whereas The Ramones remained exactly the same for years. Also,Wire and The Damned were two direct reasons US Hardcore happened....ask Rollins and Mackaye..who didn't even know the New York scene existed in 1978....i'll shut up now.
@@jonnyzchivago7623 Punk is just a term invented by the NY magazine anyway. It is technically just reinvigorated rock ‘n’ roll. That kid Eugene at the beginning of the Decline of Western Civilisation has a good quick take on that. I respect Ramones for doing what they did best and sticking to it until their last album. They had integrity through out their whole career. Sham 69 isn’t too much my thing, but I see the working class appeal. A British band I like from later in the scene is the Barracudas. That was a 60’s garage/surf type band, if you know ‘em, that wasn’t really punk to me, but had the attitude - which punk really is.
Ultimate classic punk rock and power-pop looks like everybody's having a good time
FANTASTIC!!!!
Fantastic clip, great quality.
Bay city rollers play ramones rip offs. Wot insipid z-list noo wave nonsense were the L:urkers..........'dude'.
Could you elaborate a bit more on your problem with the Lurkers?
