I loved how punk scared people.That was part of its appeal.As a (vaguely)second generation,L.A. punk,people would pull their children away from you.That was a side benefit.
I remember frequenting a store called Probe in Liverpool city centre in the late 70s (Pete Burns worked there at the time) and loads of punks with Mohicans and chains, pins used to hang around the area outside. It put lots of people off going through that area but I loved the atmosphere in the store and looking for good vinyl records in there. Great memories for me.
I found my way there in April 77. I still don’t know how because it was after midnight, I recall. Wayne County & the Electric Chairs were playing -- mildly amusing -- followed by genius in X-Ray Spex. Afterwards I saw Polly standing nearby, still wearing the bin liner, and I said you're bloody fantastic, I love the songs, you're going to be very popular. She looked at me like I was out of my mind.
That’s a fascinating anecdote in that it suggests that she was really, truly/possibly just whomped with culture & found herself there situationally. ❤⚡️
