Radical soda didn't enjoy a sonic game? Wow, I'm shocked. This has never occurred before. The parasocial betrayal I feel is immense. I will now cry myself to sleep.
Well It's nice that you were still able to figure out what it was supposed to mean. Since we are nice enough to point out each others mistakes apparently, I also got some advice for you. You forgot to put a space after both a comma in your first comment and after the questionmark in your second comment. It'd probably be a good idea, not to try and point out others mistakes in cases where you made more mistakes than the other party, in the very field that you are trying to correct them in, especially if it is supposed to be in a "provocative", or "defensive" kind of way. To be fair, those replies did answer my question though, so thank you and have a nice day.
And this game promotes multiplayer, To me sonic multiplayer sounds awful unless there is splitscreen like the old Vs modes did but Imagine doing the rotating maze with 4 Balls instead of 1. ITS AWFUL
@StarrBomba 2D Sonic really doesn't work well with co-op... the only way I can imagine it being good would be with multiple screens. They've tried many ways to do co-op/multiplayer, and I don't feel like it's ever really been good.
While I don't normally like saying stuff like this, I honestly feel strongly enough to say that I feel that anyone who honestly thinks that Mania is worse than Superstars is just plain delusional. I'm sorry, but I just can't AT ALL see how this game is better than Mania.
I saw a streamer play it when it came out last week (MegaGWolf) and watching it, I felt that the game was dangerously mediocre. It didn't do anything to really push the envelope of Sonic aside from the final level having a cool gimmick and maybe Trip. It's especially bad when Mario Wonder came out later in the week which was a rather superior game. You can't really compare Eggman using the Death Egg Robot 47 to Mario Wonder's Final Boss. Eggman may be more dangerous but Bowser understands that he's a final boss in a video game and boy, he's going to show it and make it into a spectacle.
What sucks most about the music is midis and using a soundfont doesnt sound bad, they just didn't do anything with it. Like look up Princess Maker 2's OST (the soundfont version) and hear that JAM.

As Radical plays so many platformers I wonder if he's played the indie game Ori and the blind forest DE, a lot better then this game by the looks, surprised to see a modern day Sonic game made in Unity
I'm pretty sure he did Even though already is not an indie game play because it was published by Microsoft Also unity is just a good software to program games like another amazing game named bomb Rush cyberfunk was developed in unity
@@codex8678 The original Ori game is not by Microsoft it was only by the studio (why the story is better) The sequel was when Microsoft bought the studio and forced them to make a sequel. 1:57:36 No fcking way, at first I was scared and what you meant is that Mania devs were making Poppy Playtime but you actually said it's Penny's Big Breakaway and HOLY CRAP OUR MANIA BOYS ACTUALLY MAKING NEW GAME?1?1?! Hopefully they live up to the hype, we need more good competition in this industry 😢 You have to play Penny's Big Breakaway when it's released!
It's almost like the game has two entirely independent sets of physics for ground and air speed, but this game would have to be developed by a blind squirrel for that to be true.
There's guy going around replying to almost every comment about how Superstars>Mania. I just want him to reply to my comment and explain in detail WHY he thinks Mania is worse than this game. This game plays and feels like Sonic 4 Episode 3 game, and that's boring. Atleast Mania tried and in some way succeeded replicating Classic Formula. Really only issue is that I'm just personally not interested in Classic Formula(Adventure formula ftw, especially SA1 Sonic levels, those were peak 3D Sonic level design and it's a shame future games refused to replicate it)
@danielsurvivor1372 You're getting baited by them. Even if they're serious with the opinion it's just an opinion. If they start spouting something actually problematic rob can always delete it/ban anyway
@@nixter3196 Maybe I'm being baited idk I just saw a lot of his comments and was curious, that's all. I mean I read one comment of his actually defending his point and it didn't sound like a troll, he said he didn't like how Mania has alot of repeat level designs form classic 3 games and called it stealing, however idk if that's true claim or not. He also admitted Mania has great physics and I replied to him saying "Maybe that's why Classic formula fans love it? Because Sega can't manage to copy the physics from first 3 games to this day"
I feel like sonic 4 episode 3 would of been better than whatever this is because ep 2 was an upgrade from 1. Also in both episodes you didnt have to wait for the 2 minutes for the boss to get hit
I don't know if you've actually played Superstars, but the physics are fine. They feel very much in line with the classics and Mania. I don't know where you are getting the notion that "Sega can't manage to copy the physics from first 3 games to this day", because.... they did. Superstars plays fine, no-one has issues with the physics.@@danielsurvivor1372
@@SuperMSL I got replies for my other comment replies and apperently this game wasn't even made by Sonic Team so... That would explain why physics but they still feel off compared to Mania. Xd
I don't get enjoyment from the graphics, I don't get enjoyment from the music, it's a struggle to get enjoyment from the stages, and it's a straight up bother playing the special stages. Genuinely don't understand how fans of Sonic can see this at full price and think it's a good thing.
Wait, people actually have strong opinions about this game? I mean, I thought it was fine. Not amazing, but not HORRIBLE. Liked that Sega was showing some originality in the level design, had some fun.
Will RadicalSoda ever enjoy game franchises he cares about anymore. Find out next time, on...RadicalSoda, I guess. Sorry to hear you didn't have fun again.
The game is weirdly programmed. Everything is programmed as 2D but objects use 3D models as if they were sprites. It's likely do they could make the most accurate physics without worrying about third dimension.
Yknow what’s funny, I had NO stuttering when playing on the PS4, and I swear I had absolutely NO glitches on the PS4 either, how does a game perform BETTER on an inferior console???!!!
Game is okay. I only care for Sonic lore, and I honestly don't care TOO much about the classic era. Mainly cause now, we gonna see this stuff appear in the modern game OUT OF NO WHERE
No, they're different continuities, characters like Trip and the Mid-Boiled Heavies won't be appearing in Modern Sonic Games, just like characters like Shadow and Silver won't be appearing in Classics Sonic Game.
@Next-GenNeptune So you're telling me you enjoy a game with reuse of levels that have already been done to death before, lackluster characters that once you turn off the game, you completely Forget exist, and above all else a "Different" story and extra characters you have to actually pay money for instead of automatically getting them in an update, like what Frontiers did?
@@nixter3196 That's cap? 😮 That's why all games post Forces including Forces are bad? I didn't notice because even pre Forces we got shtty games, with exceptions like Generations, Generations being one of the only good games Didn't some Sonic team devs work on modern 3D Mario game? 😅
2:50:40 Also, not so fun fact, but original dev of Sonic has said the reason only Sonic goes super and not, say Amy, is because "Amy is a girl"... Yeah, and he didn't even elaborate why exactly. Also I think he was against other characters getting super forms as well, so that's a bummer. So now I wonder, does Amy actually have super form but Sega just never showed it? I assumed that's why Sonic team and Sega avoided giving her super form due to original Sonic developer wishes, but now we have a new character who can do it
Okay that is both dumb and hilarious, but hey at least they're honest. Every already knew the answer was sexism anyway, which is something the sonic franchise is very familiar with.
I really don't like the carousel effect in this game. You're very clearly moving in a straight line rather than a circle, so it just looks like the parallax is going the wrong way.
It was bad. I had hopes, but they were dashed. Music was bad, backgrounds bad, bosses bad, level layouts bad, emerald stages bad, level tropes nothing too creative, etc. I see glimmers of hope, but I honestly don’t think Sega is capable of putting out a high quality game at this point.
Sonic Team n Sega are kings in creating such bad games, constantly missing the point of why good games were good, that they can release mid games like Frontiers and fans will eat it up because it's peak compared to bad Sega games 😂 Honestly makes me glad I stopped having hopes for new Sonic games after Forces, I knew from day 1 it's gonna be a bad game, but even then Frontiers dissapointed me.

@@pwispa9532 I hate how Lost World refused to replicate SA1 Sonic level design and adventure formula physics but man I feel bad for hating it since it's one of the last 3D non boost Sonic games...
@Next-GenNeptune Just ignore him. He's spouting his anti-Mania energy on almost every single comment here; Nobody's taking him seriously, of course. Mania may not be perfect.. but it's still a damn great game and far superior to both Frontiers and Superstars.
So many complaints in the comments about the game with barely any actually detailing their complaints. It feels like a classic Sonic game, which it was advertised as. We have the physics, the level design, new level themes, the classic cutscene style, the extra campaign from 3K but upgraded, more involved boss fights, new features, etc. It's literally what we had but more added to it. Which a sequel should be. The stutter is a reasonable complaint. I never had any on PC. As for the music, it just sounds like normal music. I don't quite know what's wrong. Maybe a few tracks have loops that are too short, but that's just my preference. But as a game, I got what I expected, plus more.
None of them have actually played the game, they just want to look good to RadicalSoda, the few that did I imagine didn’t hate this game nearly as much as they claim until they saw that Radical hated it and went “yeah I hate it too I guess”. This is the only corner of the internet where i’ve seen such vehement disdain towards the game, it makes it all the more obvious, especially with the comments just parroting the typical youtuber response to a game they didn’t like with statements like “i feel nothing for this game” and whatever. Game does look pretty average tbh, but I swear people take it way too far to the point of arguing about it, and then others here are thinking that the community is super divided on this game because of this one comments section.
I dont have much energy rn but I'll try to summarize my arguments the best I can: - Physics: I agree, Aside from knuckles gliding these physics are pretty on point. They don't carry the game on their own though. - Level Design: This is one of the things I'm most divisive about. I'm really not sure how to explain it... the level design just doesn't feel very good. Most of the Zones don't have terribly interesting or memorable gimmicks to me or anything that made me go "wow that's actually pretty cool". There were some exceptions, like Pinball Carnival and Golden Capital, but even then the former felt pretty derivative of your typical pinball level. There's a bunch of gimmicks that didnt feel like they really belonged in the level and really halted the pace, ones that come to mind are the weird breakout sections in sky temple or golden capital's floating platforms. The levels just felt like a slog to play through, I came back to Mania shortly after Superstars and the level design felt leagues more cohesive and inspired, even if most of the levels were aping classic zones the new level design really elevated it and of course the original zones are spectacular. - New Level Themes: In terms of level themes they're indeed technically original, but they feel rather derivative and not really like anything we haven't seen before. They're incredibly safe and don't really push the bar in terms of new themes or concepts, I'd put them about on par with Sonic 4 episode 2's level themes. Again I think back to Mania's new zone themes which all felt really fresh and unique. - Classic Cutscenes: Cutscenes didn't really do anything for me. The Zone transitions felt very weak and the story basically non existent, granted I had this issue with Mania also; 3K still has the best "story" out of the classic games - Extra Campaign: I'll be honest I think I preferred how Knuckles' story in 3K handled it better. His lower jump height and ability to climb walls coupled with the level design means that he's naturally guided towards his own unique paths with level design built especially for him, whereas with trip the only real difference feels like increased enemy and spike spam. - More Involved Bosses: I don't really consider this a plus at all, the bosses are incredibly long and drawn out, annoying fights that take forever to finish, and in the case of the final bosses, have annoying attacks that easily kill you and are drawn out without any checkpoints. I remember a lot of people complained about Heavy Gunner's boss and this feels like the exact same situation with almost every boss in the game. Trip's story inflating the amount of hits they take doesn't help at all either. - New Features: This one is kind of vague so I'll try to summarize my thoughts on the features I'd consider new. World Map is interesting and I have no real complaints about it. Despite it being a main selling point the coop experience was awful and I don't think 2D Sonic gameplay is built for it at all. Customizing a robot sounds interesting but the prices required for parts are way too high and the mode itself is too repetitive and simple to justify grinding medals to obtain them. Character Acts are interesting but they feel disconnected from the rest of the game. Emerald Powers feel extremely gimmicky with most of them feeling very pointless and the way you activate them breaking the flow of the game. I really, REALLY wanted to like this game going in, but I honestly can't say I enjoyed my time with it, and most of these opinions were formed before I even tuned into the RadicalSoda stream. I would rather replay Mania if I'm being entirely honest.
The level design is actually bad and malicious. I can get better pacing in Marble Zone or Labyrinth Zone in Sonic 1 than in most of the stages in Superstars and those are considered to be the slowest. The music is okay at best, you don't have to be an audiophile to tell a good and catchy song from a mediocre background filler. The only consistent bug I've encountered though was audio going missing which, to be honest, wasn't that big of deal considering the OST is mediocre as hell. The boss fights drag and I personally hate wait game. The only thing that is good about this game is the physics. It's pretty darn close to the classic titles. Not for all of the characters, Knuckles' glide was nerfed since you can't accelerate while gliding nor do you keep momentum when landing, you just stop. Sonic's spindash is slower, like a lot slower but that's not a deal breaker.
>none of them have actually played the game, they just want to look good to RadicalSoda< No, it's just that nobody cares about negative opinions these days even if they are constructive and down to earth. Everybody likes to be surrounded by a delulu aura of positivism to feel like they belong to a certain group/community. The creators want to be the focus of the content they produce so they tend to keep the audience away from the actual content that is being discussed. Rad's review of Superstarts is the prime example. It tries to be as neutral as possible not to lose a potential viewer and keep the delulu aura going, while here we can clearly see how much he 'enjoys' the game giving some basic critisism that is hard to ignore. Suddenly...having an opinion of your own has become a bad thing! Wowzers, what a revelation! You might be called 'biased, narrow-minded, unobjective, parroting other people's word and ideas' while in actuality 'opinion' is the opposite of that. It's what a person believes, how they see a thing in their own unique way based on their background. And surprise, people can feel the same way, whether they like something or dislike. Sheesh, let people speak their mind. I'd rather see a discussion instead of humble and weak attempts at justifying the price of this generic piece of entertainment that is Superstars. It's NOT about the price. It's about the game. And some happen to dislike it. Me included.
@@VGHOST008 Radical having his own opinion is fine, it's that the people who claim to "hate the game" in these comments sections clearly overexaggerate any actual opinion they had because God forbid they come across as if they're fine with the game. I could care less if you dislike the game itself, as I said it looks average as all hell and I don't blame anyone for not caring about it, especially since Mario Wonder exists, but alot of people specifically in this comments section dramatise their disgust to a laughable degree, its almost hillarious. Like I can't even describe it but it's insanely obvious to tell apart the people who are obviously trying to have the "correct" opinion
I hope he tries time attack cus that could fix some of his issues. I actually like thus more than mania. You know what I think is bad? The fact that people will praise Mania even Though OVER HALF of it's stages are reused because "ThE PhYsIcS ArE GoOd!" And you have to PAY for an entirely "different" story, and the characters that come with the DLC have NO story presance whatsoever and are just there for the fuck of it, I'm glad they came back, but they shoukd've factored into the "story" of the "totally different" campaign I had to pay for.

It really is hard to be Sonic fan nowadays, when it feels like every game releases just to underwhelm. Still struggling to return to Forces, a decent game, but an extremely mid addition to the Sonic series.
Everything else about sonic seems to be fun though, music, stories, other tings like the books and shows those are all fun yet thier games seem to miss often.
This game is mid for me personally. While it had some things I enjoyed, it was outweighed by my negative feelings. It surely is not worthy of being a sequel to sonic mania
I think Sonic Mania is better than this game (at least in terms of originality. Re-introducing Ray and Mighty, the 4 new zones and even the music) even tho it was my least favorite Classic Sonic game.
Let's see... better story, better boss fights, better music.. Superstars is great on paper - but very poorly executed. But that's probably due to the fact that SEGA hired Arzest to do it; you know, the same guys that made such WONDERS as Balan's Wonderworld and Yoshi's New Island? This game was doomed from the start.
@@SuperMariover64I mean that's a pretty popular consensus between that level and Press Factory as the worse the game has to offer with the music not helping things. But at same time classic games wouldn't say were excluded from this either like Sonic 2's Metropolis being a widely hated zone.
An actual game, are you forgetting the fact it's $60 or $75 if you get the day one DLC. This game would of fine as a $40 game with the DLC included but nah, gotta milk those classic nostagic fans. There are much better or even cheaper platformers. Like take for example Crash 4 IAB, It has more levels, great QoL features like the Yellow Circle, Bosses are fun and although long have checkpoints, Have a ton of skins for both characters, and level selection isn't a chore. Just the fact this game's online servers are dead and can barely find a match with more than 3 people out of available 7 on day 1 of release really explains the quality of the game.
Sonic fans are so weird. Yall ask for a 2d sonic game, you get one that is very autentic to the originals and then get mad. Seriously, EVERY problem superstars has 2d Sonic games always had! Every weird mechanic, every bad feature and every boring part of the game comes from original 2d Sonic games. Like, do you know how many people got angry for being punished for being too fast? Have you ever played a 2d sonic game? If you prefer the 3d games just admit it, you don't need to lie and says that it's the game's fault, they did everything they promised to do! If you didn't like this game the problem isn't the game, it's just that you don't like 2d Sonic games
Believe me, I didn’t ask for this. In fact, I’m more than content to play the older 3D games because at least they were made during a time when video games had a skill floor for quality that was intact and not hollowed out like a well to the Earth’s core.
In my defense, I DO ask for 3D Sonic only, specifically adventure formula, even more specifically SA1 Sonic level design(I actually like Gamma stages but I'd rather them not return, seeing how Sega butchered mech stages in SA2, same goes to treasure hunting I actually liked em in SA1 but it was pain in SA2) But even I have to admit this game feels off compared to Mania or Classic games. Still thought, besides being boring this game doesn't have that many sins at first glance and even that can be my fault. Also I'm at 1:50:20 mark so idk ,maybe it will get worse. I do have some complains like endless special stages, and the fact chaos emerald special stages look tedious n boring (in my defence I think all special stages suck, It's just some of em like Sonic 2 one suck more than the rest) My expertise is more with adventure and even boost formula and how Sega refuses to learn 3D Sonic and how he should work. Seriously why tf they made Frontiers an OPEN WORLD?!? I'm just baffled why Sega of all people thought "Yeeh you know how many companies fail miserably to make engaging open world games? Well WE surely can do that! Not like we fail miserably so many times!😂"
@@tpfoxCastro Don't put words in my mouth. I didn't have hopes for this game, I watched this video because I like RadicalSoda and I was curious about the game's quality. Nothing more.
You see when you have multiple other 2d games ro compare to it makes it easy to tell when this one is a stinker. This applies to any series honestly, not saying the new game needs to blow the last one away but it'd help to be Equal the very least in quality. Mid music, bad levels, awful bosses, odd sound design, lame level style on some, Oh and of course stupid bugs. The remixes are awesome and the fact that they find fun, new, inventive ways to go around, the same levels is very inspiring, but on the other hand you have a group of antagonists that are very similar to the deadly six in the sense that the second you turn off the game, you forget they exist completely, As well as having a completely flimsy explanation for traversing the same levels You've been going through for many years now, And the final nail in the coffin for me. On bridge island act 2 I clipped into the fucking capsule. This game is a joke honestly lmao.
I dont have much energy rn but I'll try to summarize my arguments the best I can:
- Physics: I agree, Aside from knuckles gliding these physics are pretty on point.
The Zone transitions felt very weak and the story basically non existent, granted I had this issue with Mania also; 3K still has the best "story" out of the classic games
- Extra Campaign: I'll be honest I think I preferred how Knuckles' story in 3K handled it better.
Sonic's spindash is slower, like a lot slower but that's not a deal breaker.
>none of them have actually played the game, they just want to look good to RadicalSoda<
No, it's just that nobody cares about negative opinions these days even if they are constructive and down to earth.
This game is mid for me personally. While it had some things I enjoyed, it was outweighed by my negative feelings. It surely is not worthy of being a sequel to sonic mania
Sonic mania copy and pasted level design it's hard to mess up what's already been done
@blinkyy4594 All act 2 were original. And the acts 1 were remixes of act 1 and 2 from previous games so they didn't "copy paste".
Heathen!
I think Sonic Mania is better than this game (at least in terms of originality. Re-introducing Ray and Mighty, the 4 new zones and even the music) even tho it was my least favorite Classic Sonic game.
Wait, ppl don't like this game??? Wtf do you ppl want???
I actually liked this game, at least until Golden Capital Zone. That zone was the worst one in my opinion

In my defense, I DO ask for 3D Sonic only, specifically adventure formula, even more specifically SA1 Sonic level design(I actually like Gamma stages but I'd rather them not return, seeing how Sega butchered mech stages in SA2, same goes to treasure hunting I actually liked em in SA1 but it was pain in SA2)
But even I have to admit this game feels off compared to Mania or Classic games. Still thought, besides being boring this game doesn't have that many sins at first glance and even that can be my fault. Also I'm at 1:50:20 mark so idk ,maybe it will get worse.
I do have some complains like endless special stages, and the fact chaos emerald special stages look tedious n boring (in my defence I think all special stages suck, It's just some of em like Sonic 2 one suck more than the rest)
My expertise is more with adventure and even boost formula and how Sega refuses to learn 3D Sonic and how he should work. Seriously why tf they made Frontiers an OPEN WORLD?!? Mid music, bad levels, awful bosses, odd sound design, lame level style on some, Oh and of course stupid bugs. People hating on mania for some reason but that game rocks ajd for half the prices that should be the bar of quality and this is below it.
Me watching the title of the video: congratulations, your opinion privileges have been removed
Oh no, he didn't like a mid Sonic game, he's not allowed to have an opinion!

Man, honestly you’re just like Premy. Complaining about everything and blanking the game on your own skill issues. You weren’t like that before. Also I know it’s not intentional but with Trip’s super form you laugh at the game for going out of bounds but you were the one that did it by skipping everything lol
You shouldnt br able to go out of bounds in the first place, simply put
u complain WAY TOO MUCH , the game is really unfair sometimes, not all the music is good , but the levels are fresh and new the powers are fun and not all of them are broken , the physics are really close to any other classic game, and there's a new character which has a good design , the game is not bad man XD, sure there are a few bugs , but in my playthrough i encountered like 3 bugs? and none of them stopped my progression or killed me unfairly , i honestly enjoy this more than mania
Its fun to watch someone complain about a bad game, so why are you here?
@@Goremize i have a lot of time on my hands haha
@fredtheboss7653 Tbf that's mostly Rob's way of having fun. also the way to keep the stream from entering awkward silence territory. It's his streamer persona so to speak. Not something everyone enjoys but at least he likes it imo
@@nixter3196 i guess so haha, i just like the game and objectively think it's good,so ig i don't like people complain about the game when it Doesn't deserve it, i mean it's not perfect yeah, but it's not horrible either
I'm just gonna come out and say it, this game is better than Mania, And I'm tired of pretending it isn't.
Edit: You only hate me because I speak the truth.
Why do you hate sonic mania so much it was a good game
@@trickstercj4366 You see, I don't consider a good game to be built off of levels from previous games with very few new ones in between, nor do I consider a good game to have characters that are so insignificant, the second you stop playing The Game, you forget they even exist, not to mention the fact that you have to pay for an entirely different story, which is just traversing the same levels in the exact same story, but with different "aesthetics" most of them being palate swaps, as well as giving you 2 new characters, Which should have really just been an update like Frontiers was doing, I'm not saying that the game is horrible. It does have its merits. The physics system is amazing. Most of this aside from the special stages, and the animated cutscenes, Could have been accomplished on a Genesis with similar results, and a CD with the EXACT SAME results.
@@noone-mo6gywow you must hate generations then
@@noone-mo6gy "Physics system is amazing"
I mean, there's your answer why Classic fans probably love this game.
The fact that Sega refused to FCKING RELEARN CLASSIC FORMULA PHYSICS SYSTEM must be infuriating to Classic fans.
I say must be since I'm enjoyer of Adventure formula and not Classic ot Boost one and Lemme tell ya, that's partially why I hate games like Lost World which refused to relearn adventure formula physics.
Also no 3D game managed to replicate SA1 sonic levels design and it was God tier, basically Classic formula but in 3D
@@liamsgreatbitgaming same thing, I used to love it, but green hill over-saturation killed any enjoyment, of the first 3 levels, first rival fight, and first boss at least, Everything from that point onward is pretty much amazing, the fact that they could reimagine Modern stages into Classic ones and still have to be fun is that amazing feet that I will not discredit in the slightest, plus we haven't really been running around moden stages as much as classic ones, which is one of my main complaints about Frontiers, hell the only reason I played through Frontiers was because I wanted to fight the Titans.
