Here's the thing, you CAN do 2D games with 3D graphics, it can work. But the BACKGROUND needs to be extremely detailed and actually feel part of the foreground. Because the foreground just feels like weird platforming places in front of a background rather than it all feeling like it belongs together. Mario Wonder is like the perfect example. Timeless looking game with beautiful animations and environments all feeling like they're part of the same world. Imagine Sonic with that kind of quality. It'd look stunning. But instead its just generic 3D graphics rather than anything stylish with it all blending together.

I want to say something about Amy/Trip apperance in the true final boss, IT ISN'T RNG, so no it isn’t like winning the loto. To spawn Amy or Trip, you have to dodge every attack for 1 min (do not receive knock back) and she will give you 30/40 rings. It works like a reward for dodging every attack, because yes since super sonic is invicible, there is no point in dodging in other sonic games. It's a way to reward people to no hit the final boss (way easier to get amy in the phase 2) Also i want to say that it looks like this game BEG to be played with Trip in the true final boss, SHE CAN FLY, she just less fast than sonic. I'm really sure the final boss could have been at least a 2 player coop part of the game (Sonic and dragon Trip). Seriously, Silver could turn super and beat the final boss in his first (and only) game. Trip just feel like another character to be just part of some random lore, she could have been more.....
Also Robotnik and Fang not being implied in the True final boss feel rushed. At least in origins we could see what happened to Robotnik after the events of sonic 2. Here in superstars....we don't know what happened to Robotnik and Fang, we don't know if they are responsible for fucking spawning a big purple dragon. They just left the story. Edit: also i did liked the game and left a positive review on steam, i just can see and understand that there is some flaws.
They way they went about making this game is weird in every aspect. Trip gets a unique story (different final boss, altered main stages), while the other characters get only one fully unique act and alternate cutscenes (Knux ending). Plus a "true" final boss that takes like 10 minutes. I feel like that extra time could've went to ironing the game's bugs and stuff

This entire game make me sad, while it's not awful, we kind of exist in a post fan game world. THere are games like Sonic and the Fallen Star, Sonic Triple trouble 16bit and a slew of others that are completely free and better designed. Even ignoring fan games, you got Freedom Planet 2, Spark 1 ect that are both better designed and far more creative. In fact, you could get all the games listed above and more for the price of Super Stars. But even if the price was cut in half, I still don't think it'd fix the fundamental problem that the level designs are just kind of fucked. While not outright broken, they are the kind of irritating/bad that you'd probably never want to go back to some levels to get better at them.

I don’t agree that pixel art is timeless. I think games with good art styles in general are timeless, there are plenty of pixel art games that definitely look and feel old, outdated, etc.
But that’s not because of pixel art but because of the style so pixel art is timeless, style is not. There are plenty of games with 3D that still hold up because of the style, yet many doesn’t and we don’t say that 3D is outdated. Pixel art is way more limited compared to 3D but it can work if executed right.

It's sort of hilarious they kept the overtime score penalty, even though Trips boss fights take like 3 hours to kill, or at least feels that long, especially the Fang fight.
Dang, I don’t remember running into any glitches alert from one in fangs fight where the badnik wouldn’t hit his mech sometimes. I really liked this game, not as much as mania, but I’d say I’d put it over 1 2 and Cd
Oh yeah while I’m at it, I’m pretty sure at one point in the previous Superstars stream he points out how the rings go towards the screen when you have a lot of them and sounds slightly confused. Same thing happens in Mania.

I like Trip enough, but I'm not particularly sold on her story, as in the writing. Trip's Story, the mode, is just bullshit. She's fun enough to play though.
I'll say that I think Sonic games these days R for some reason buggier on PS5/PC rather than Xbox cus usin my One X I didn't encounter 90% of these bugs unintentionally & same goes for Frontiers. I really did like this game a lot over mania, 3&k, & 1 but I can tell this game makes some minor changes to fit the co-op(since it's tryin to be NSMB for sonic) in that may make or break the experience for some. Most of those go away in the Time attack mode tho(like the bosses that I think R well designed but go against typical classic conventions & take too long especially in Trip's story). I think u nitpicked some things a bit too much that most ppl won't notice, encounter, or care for but some things like the cyber level straight up not workin is def odd for u. Music could've def been better no thanks to Mid Lopes & Jun usin the stupid genesis sound chip shit that no one likes or cares for. It's jus weirdly mixed thx to them not puttin their "best" foots forward & that REALLY sucks in Sonic's case obv. I get u wanna be careful wit money(I'm like that too) but I don't C a point in usin money as a metric for quality but that's jus me. Sonic games go on sale quick so u prob could've waited a week for it to go down to $40. The reason Arzest was chosen was cus 1. it's Oshima's company which means 2. there R ppl there that have worked on classic sonic games before & I'd say they did really "good"(they got the hard part down). I really do think this is jus a good sonic game, a "good" game, & a good classic sonic game for once wit no huge caveats like frontiers. I'm more surprised u liked Frontiers as much as u did in comparison to this. They can improve & like Frontiers I'm positive they will as long as SEGA doesn't pull a SEGA(which isn't unlikely but I wanna be at least cautiously optimistic here). I hope u come around on the game. Also I don't think u give S4 ep 2 enough credit wit how that game looked(it's pretty mid as a whole but I do think it looks pretty).

Took my girlfriend 3 days to beat Fang. I can assure you, she did not enjoy the fight. She was honestly about to quit.
