The reason why I watch this channel is because I'm too chicken to play most if not all the scary games hahah! Thank you Gab for letting us chickens experience the games!
me too! XD
Exactly 🎉
Same 😂
yep... same here😬
Me too! Every time I play games like these I freeze up and I’m unable to play hahah! Gab is a real lifesaver ha!
This one is, for me anyway, scarier than most scary games precisely because nothing is happening but you keep expecting it to. They capture an all too real feeling of isolation in which our own minds populate it with unseen horrors. You almost want something to jump scare you because then the anticipation will be over
yes! The prolonged feelings of uncertainty and paranoia are my favourite in horror lol!!
Did you know? Chickens sometimes enjoy being scared, just like humans.
“I got exactly what I wanted and I hate it!” Is such a good quote 😂
I was waiting for her to realize after she first came across it cause I'd watched Sean's first.
Gab playing a scary game is the best medicine on a sick day 😄
i hope you get well soon! ☕️
@@ladybugd0tsthank you!! 😊
It really is! w/ a nice hot cup of tea as well oo00o its a vibe! Remember to take care of yourself. hope you feel better soon!
Hope you feel better, man, take the day easy 😊
Get well soon! Take care!
Gab I don't know how you get through these games! The whole thing is so darn unsettling! I'm so happy I have you to be brave for us so I can at least vicariously experience these sorts of games! 😱
Yes, I love the story and intrigue of stuff like this but my anxiety can't handle it
Totally I’m able to watch horror movies but I can’t bear to play a horror game 😭 I hate having to be in control just let me be a bystander and watch
Its because Shes been playing horror games for years and years so eventually common tropes wear off on you and you may start to predict when something may happen so you can be ready for it.
@@riggamorrischanI’m like the complete opposite! I HATE horror movies and cannot watch a single one without eternal trauma, but I absolutely love horror games and love the jumpscares in horror games and the body horror they can have!
Why do so many of these rooms transport me back to the days of Sunday school, church camp, and youth groups? The wallpaper, carpets, and wood doors really take me back.
Right? For me, it’s because many church buildings are unsettling places built with too few windows that create a claustrophobic feel. The creepy part for me is the smell. Reminiscent of a kindergarten classroom mingled with granny perfume and the toxic fumes of cheap carpeting.
Definitely reminiscent of childhood memories for some reason, preschool, going shopping at the mall, grandmas house, day care. So strange
That's by design.. they picked generic wall colours and patterns that almost everyone has seen in older buildings.
All back rooms levels are based on liminal spaces which are familiar and at the same time unsetteling empty spaces. It's a fascinating fenomenon.
Ok I just commented about the nostalgia this game makes me feel. It’s so weird!!!!
Me: *watching Sean and Evelien play the same games because they play them in SUCH different ways*
Also me: Whoooooaaa this game is so cool 😯
Definitely watch Sean for the "ha-ha's" and Evelien for the "aha's" 👏
Honestly that's the best summary of their difference 🤣 Haha vs aha
23:01- "I was really hoping we could close it and then open it, and then it was a doorway."
_You have unlocked: _*_THE SNACKROOMS_*
A lot of people don’t like the yellow, but it’s so fitting if you read “the yellow wallpaper.” Absolutely love that little detail in this game
This pale sickly yellow adds to the unsettling vibes
I loved reading the yellow wallpaper
The yellow wallpaper is classic.
Animal fact of the day:
Chickens can only see yellow.
Its so interesting that most people would rather walk towards a room with furniture. It gives ppl a sense of familiarity which I guess makes them less anxious/uncomfortable
dude it’s so trippy how realistic the graphics look, like at first i couldn’t tell it was already gab walking around, i thought it was just the vhs tape recording haha
Spoiler
You can actually tell immediately that he's still in the backrooms at the end, if you're watching closely. There was no portal. It was just a normal doorway that looked like the portal door. Either the facility was swallowed up, or they're able to turn the portal on and off and they had it turned off because they weren't expecting any traffic.
To me, when I watched it on Sean's channel, I noticed that, but my first thought was that somehow the facility got sent to The Backrooms
General backrooms lore is that they are everexpanding so i'd guess they just expanded thru the portal and made the facility part of themselves. And because time and space work different inside no one knows where and when in or outside of the rooms the other researchers ended up by the time we came back.
My theory is that the entity that follows you had the goal of seeing where you were going back and then told the backrooms, the entity must be the backrooms itself in a way that when he just got back, whole complex was being sent to the backrooms, you can also see that the protagonist made a bounce in the future by seeing the final picture of the facility.
The song playing on the radio at 20:53 is “I Hear a New World” by Joe Meek & The Blue Men, 1960. Not distorted for the game, it really does sound like that.
thank you!!
I'm only 15 minutes in but I can't get over how good this looks. Its so realistic, and the opening doors animation is incredible.
that tall guy doll or whatever was scarier than most jumpscares i've seen in a while
It's from a dark web video called "Blank Room Soup."
I just saw Seán’s and your Instagram Stories about BB having Diabetes.
I’m so glad the both of you caught it early enough to seek treatment with his veterinary doctor.
May he continue to be the fluffiest bundle of joy in your lives.
💚😽😽💚
Can't believe they make it look so real. The anticipation of something happening and then nothing happening is what makes it so fricken tense!
The character suit at 8:30 is one of the characters from the creepypasta video 'Blank Room Soup'.
Am I the only person that finds the back rooms comforting in most cases? It takes me back to childhood before they started renovating everything… when 70-90s decor was still in many places in the us. And reminds me a lot of places I see in my dreams.
Unsettling is probably my favorite atmosphere in horror and this game has it in spades. Marvelous!
The best part is that its in early access and the dev plans on adding hours of more content.
Those circles on the floor look like the residue from the "Six feet apart" stickers in shops. Our floors at have the same residue left behind after we were allowed to pull the stickers up once the pandemic "ended".
This is the exact kind of spooky game ( or game in general ) I've always wanted to play - minimal scares, minimal talking, just exploring incredible and thought-provoking environments with a cool mystery behind them! I absolutely love it, just engaging with the atmosphere. Really hope to see more of this type of media!
I dunno if I'd call the scares minimal. I just about sh*t my pants every time the doll thing showed up, and *I was expecting it to*
I swear to god I remember seeing a post on tumblr YEARS back, like maybe around 2012-2014, where someone had posted a sort of "backrooms" photo of that abandoned sort of office space - except the name "the backrooms" was not associated with it at all, and various people were just conversing about what made it so creepy and at one point maybe someone was like "imagine being stuck in infinite rooms that look just like this and something starts following you" but when I tried to find it, I found numerous pages trying to insist "the backrooms" idea came from 4chan in 2019, but I haven't been active on tumblr (haven't gone on it at all) since maybe 2015. and the "original 4chan post" talks about it as the modern, fully-fleshed-out idea, CALLS IT THE BACKROOMS, and says you can "no-clip" into it, even. And I know I've seen it way back when it was just the barest bones concept, WAY before 2019. I really wish I could find that post/thread now. I really feel like no single person came up with "the backrooms", it's a concept that just grew from a basic idea, like SCP. it doesn't "belong" to anyone.
31:30 Maybe when a building is demolished or changes are made in the real world, the structure also changes a bit in the back rooms?
Do you think this genre of horror was inspired by the Maze screensaver of the 90s??? I would sit and watch that thing for SO LONG as a kid and this feels like it scratches a similar itch
Or the unsettling feeling you get when seeing a new place late at night, or on your own, which looks out of place to modernly decorated places.
8:29 he is your weeping angel
32:41 did you see it
1:00:10 he was always BEHIND YOU
1:06:00 it mean THE CRIMSON FOREST
I love your mix of cozy and horror games!
homie is wild, if i fell through like that I would sit in the corner and cry
All these Backrooms games makes me really want something surrounding House of Leaves. A game of The Navidson Record would be such a natural fit. Also, if you want a Backrooms book, Gab, that's probably the best as it has a pretty cool gimmick to bring you into its web (it's also a genuinely great book).
There is one called 2000 Navidson lane
I believe she's already read HoL. She's definitely talked about it before and talks very highly of it.
My House .wad is a good House of Leaves hellhouse kinda experience in Doom fashion. but I'd absolutely love a game based around HoL
I just got that book!
The hollow places!! I haven't read it yet (It's been busy!) but T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon writes SUCH good stuff. They are hands down the only reason I'm still on twitter
I love watching you, even when its scary it feels like you have it all under controle
My dreams are often like this. Wandering around endless malls, streets, or buildings. Mine have many people around though, most of whom I ignore or watch like a camera. My directions are purposeful but the places don't agree. They shift as I roam. Running does nothing. Stairways mock. The Backrooms is a dreamscape that doesn't want you to don't wake up from. The company has found a doorway in and it's spreading out.
I used to have dreams like this when I was a child and afraid to get lost without being able to reach my mom or my dad. Hated those because they made me feel hopeless, would always wake up crying fD
HOW DID THEY GET EVEN A 3D MODEL OF MY FAMILYS COUCH THAT THING IS DISCONTINUED. so far the scariest thing in the game lmao
After seeing a lot of youtubers playing this game, this is more linear then other's backroom games, it just give the impression that is not sometimes, but its also very good.
a lot of the other games are also linear.. they just make you run around inside a space completing a checklist before you move into the next area.
@@azarineviland you can memorise the area because it’s too small
If i was in the back rooms myself I’d probably just hold a concert for all of the entities while wondering around
This game is amazing. I can't believe it was made by only one person.
A Gab a day keeps the doctor away
And the anxiety at bay ~
God, this game dev is actual genius. Of using lighting, perspective, transition-psychology.
And when the walls started tilting diagonally, I finally put my finger on the feels.....this feels like being inside Willy Wonka's factory. Literally exactly that.
(Gab sees the Big Doll Guy for the 2nd time, just him rolling balls to you, like a kitty, just wants to play, heh) "I'm out!"
lol...I'm out. See ya. Have a nice day. Don't forget to write. Don't call us, we'll call you. lol :P :)
.
Me trying to find my way back to hotel reception
Me always same.
This game reminds me of my weird dreams that are so abstract and always end so scary atoinawita. Like you're walking around drunk and you can't control things like normal and you feel like there's something always lurking ominously around a corner or in a dark area.
I hope they credit Kanepixels in some way, this is just straight up his version of the backrooms. Gab should watch that series though, it's so good.
Going from Sean’s video to Gabs is like going from 100mph to 20 with all the details and I love it❤
"Why the HAZMAT suit? What could possibly infect me?" They don't know! that's exactly why the HAZMAT suit!
This game is so real looking and so hauntingly good! What an experience 😍
14:40 some sounds also passes through the backroons it seems, maybe in the real world it's a concert going on and you hear it in that specific area of the backroons.
That part always gives me chills. The idea of this possibility is terrifying. Like the line between worlds is so thin. Even more horrifying, that if you screamed would they also hear you? Does it pass both ways? Would it even be heard over the crescendo?
I love this, it's so strangely calming! A book that gave me Backrooms vibes was Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. One of my faves.
32:40 turned up the fear factor of this game by x100.
I've been watching Gab for so long I've started to just immediately respond to her out loud when she asks if a word in English she uses is correct. 🤦♀️ Chlorinated is a word by the way if you're reading this Gab, good job.
13:42 something about this room scares me so fucking much. I haven't felt tnat kind of dread watching someone slowly opening a door, wishing they exit the room but also fearing the next room since P.T. playthroughs.
14:30 , this may be super obvious, but I think it's really interesting that the dev picked the song Lacrimosa, and they definitely must have done it on purpose. Mozart was working on a composition of multiple pieces (a requiem mass), but was unable to finish it before he passed. He worked on Lacrimosa as he was dying, and now it is commonly played in media to indicate that a character is about to die
Coming back to watch it again. And I still think someone needs to tell that guy it's not good for your knees to walk with your toes pointed outward.
Idk why but this specific backrooms game makes me feel super heavy nostalgia. It’s certain rooms and areas, but it makes my head buzz trying to bring up the memory it’s related to. Maybe because we moved around a lot when I was a kid, and my brother and I would wander around the empty house while our parents moved stuff in. Idk it’s super weird.
Also that one song was called Lacrimosa. I think it’s Mozart. I sang the alto part in my high school choir senior year.
I feel like "Everywhere At The End Of Time" would be the perfect sound track for The Back Rooms.
I actually feel bad for the dude. He's just working. Then, he got sucked through the floor to walk around aimlessly trying to look for a way out. Only to fall out of the sky in the end.
Ok but the concept of AN ENTIRE SUBWAY STATION ending up in the backrooms is baffling. HOW did it get there? Or is it there simply because it is a part of the backrooms?
Some of the random items you come across make me wonder if people were holding onto them when they fell into the backrooms. Chairs, newspapers, even a refrigerator??? This is what I love about the backrooms, all the questions it raises.
I wonder if this game would be just as scary if you gave it to someone who nothing about The Backrooms and told them it was a puzzle game where you need to find the exit of a big maze instead of a horror game.
hi gab! just wanted to say that you and sean are my current comfort youtubers, thank you so much for your hard work!
That pool [45:43] makes think of that movie "The Faculty" when the queen alien came out the pool. The mall part reminds me of the pinball episode in "Are you Afraid of the Dark."
I'm a little late here, but... following a line or a string is something very typical for cave diving, where visibility may be a major issue, so having a line to follow means that you can get out even if visibility is zero...
[edit] I should clarify that this usually mean dragging a big spool with a loooong string on it behind you...
the one shot near the end reminds me so much of the film Cloverfield omgg
I love cloverfield!!
Funny that this game introduces that "Ray Ray" mascot from that "Blank Soup Room" video XD
I love how Gab went the opposite way than Sean did. t was really interesting!
sean: OOOOOOH THATS SO WEIRD!!! evelien: oh a washing machine
I didn't see it in this video, but in Sean's playthrough when you first find the long man you can see his hands moving to his breathing.
Note to game devs- F for Flaslight or, if you *must*, T for Torch. Get with the program.
47:50 Silent Hill 3 taught me to be dubious of carousels.
14:50 i think the music is lacrimosa by mozart
Yes, agree
These researchers really need to add parachutes to the suits. This is a running issue.
a thought, hazmat suits because you are in an unknown area, one does not know if there is any gasses, bacteria, viruses, or what have you that could affect one.
I think this is going to be the first actual video I’ve watched of yours! I’ve seen some shorts and stuff, and watched you on Seán’s channel. I absolutely love your energy! (And now I have another voice to listen to while I game or craft!)
Man,that was so freaking scary from start to finish!😱The game looks so realistic! This game dev did such a fantastic job making this so creepy and unsettling!! Thank you Gab for playing this new Backrooms game!!!!😊
I love T.Kingfisher. Have you read The Twisted Ones? Highly recommend.
Why do these backroom games give me soo much anxiety😂 it feels like an existential threat, so creepy
That ending setting was honestly super chilling, I wish they had us spend more time there since it was really unsettling being in a 'safe' spot that was now dangerous
The running at first scared the darn out of me 😂 I wasnt looking at the screen and all the sudden it sounded like something was running at me
It’s funny how both in Evelyn and Sean’s video of this game, they mention Skinamarink
Just wonder if you can co-play with Sean as 2 players mode,Will be fun and great you both figure way out together 👍
21:00 if you play the radio backwards it says:
"Your lost...goodness gracious.... your lost.... don't lock me in here.... your lost"
That's creepy AF!!!!
this is so cool! I watched the video of this! being able to basically play the video and it still feels the same and all is incredible. the smooth transitions and all...
and to hear that there will be a backroom movie.. I'm beyond excited:D
the backrooms are like my thoughts - I clip randomly in and out of them, they make no sense to anyone (myself included), while also being disturbingly empty most of the time and if there is anything happening after all, it's just the occasional random object, mood change or nightmare creature popping up out of nowhere...
Funny how I know Gab from Sean and now I watch her more than I watch him 😂
56:00 That Signalis sound!
fun fact: in Kane Pixels video where that guy "fell through the ground and died" well he never fell through the ground... if you goo frame by frame you can actually see his whole body while he is attacked and dragged away by the monster... and also his name was Kane as well.
This feels like a church basement...
There is something terrifying yet peaceful about the backrooms aesthetic.
Also, it would be interesting to see how a backrooms book would translate that weird nostalgic it invokes into words.
Idk why, but Gab stopping to clarify that she was "browsing Netflix" not "watching Netflix" was really funny. The two are very different activities!
Oh yeah, another liminal space game!
(I watched Jack play this, but I want to get Gab's comments and whatnot on it!)
I've never felt the urge to see someone alive so hard after watching this gameplay
I would make the choir room my basecamp, so haunting!
So simple looking, yet so complex and really cool.
Fun fact: This game breaks the Geneva Convention. "Red Cross" is copyrighted and it is strictly enforced. The Red Cross is not in the public domain, so it isn't any different than using any brand or copyrighted material. Not even with attribution, the Red Cross, the symbol, or anything related to the Red Cross cannot be used by anyone other than the Red Cross. So if you're designing a game they are really strict about that. For good reason, in their words "It might be a game to you but to us it means the world."
Been thinking about this but maybe the Backrooms as an entity doesn't actually know what an 'EXIT' is it just knows that people flock to it so it uses these signs to drive and direct people around. it just so happened to find the building blocks while it was assimilating parts of the world to mimic. It's not malicious or deceptive but a misalignment of our understanding and the entities. I don't know, it seems more interesting if the high unalive rate from the Backrooms was purely a consequence of the Backroom running out of places to put you through and just ejecting you haha.
SCP lore itches the nice part of my brain.
As long as you drop furniture on someone else every seven seconds you will be safe from the curse of the furniture.
Holy shit this game looks so realistic. I guess it's the lighting or something.
I will say.... I really love Kane's version of The Backrooms. HOWEVER, I am annoyed that his version is the one that got insanely popular. His version isn't really The Backrooms. It's more of The Backroom. The whole point of The Backrooms is the multiple levels and the seemingly endless possibilities that can come with it. Kane's version is mainly just the yellow wallpaper and people have said that "that is what the backrooms is supposed to be" when playing a game that has the multiple levels stuff. But it's not. It's like SCP Foundation having 1 SCP. It removes all point of it. The Complex and Escape The Backrooms are THE BEST Backrooms games out there. There is also another one that Jack played but I cannot remember the title lol
56:05!!! THATS THE SIGNALIS TUNE!!!
The backrooms started as a creepy pasta so there's stories of it on the internet, just not a full book I think.
I do know that there's some people who compile the stories sometimes, like the scp books being published.
Watching this was so interesting but terrifiying at the same time. My whole body just screamed "I DONT WANNA BE THERE! WE NEED TO GET OUT!" This feels so unpleasant.
