I love how unfazed Gab is when anything disturbing is shown, I imagine someone new to horror watching this like “WHY ARE YOU SO CALM THIS IS HORRIFIC!”
People don't really do the comical streamer outbursts. In fact that's what I like about her: normal human reactions to fiction. Albeit disturbing fiction.
I'll say that most horror games I find interesting more than scary, but the idea of being stuck in a tight space underground with no chance of anyone finding you is the most scary thing I could imagine. Only Gabs playing this could help me stomach this.
That moment at 41:58 - 42:12 when he realized that he never went anywhere. Also, you'd think he'd bail outta there and call the cops the moment he found all that blood and gore upon entering the house, but nope. He decided to squeeze himself in tight places where he shouldn't be. EDIT: LOL, didn't realize 'til the very end that there's an alternate ending of just leaving the place.
The fact that there's not an ability to just be "Okay thats a brain in a trash can and an altar with a corpse. I'mma call the cops now" in the DLC is maddening
This sounds like a weird spin on Kafka's Metamorphosis; you're an insect or otherwise small non-human creature (a parasitic wasp perhaps since some species do consume the bodies of their hosts as they're born and while said host is still living). Pretty cool tbh
There's a short story by Kafka called "The Burrow", written in the perspective of an unspecified "animal" that lives underground and digs holes all day. The beginning reminded me a lot of that.
In the DLC, when the character is crawling in the caves, it reminds me of the horror movie "As Above, So Below". Especially with the symbolism of crawling down into hell or the afterlife.
That 2nd DLC ending! It's great when characters make rational decisions in spooky games, but for some reason I can't help but find it funny when it happens 😂
I was literally holding my breath while watching the tunnel section. It made me so unbelievably uncomfortable and scared. My claustrophobia had me in a chokehold.
I love that this was from the monster's perspective! To read its thoughts was both horrifying and heartbreaking. Really cool atmosphere and artwork, and your calm reading voice made this even better
Im only 8 minutes in and I love this funky little creature. I love the way it talks and shows off its pebble room and its skull room! (also. its dreamsequence was some of the freakiest art I’ve seen.)

Intercourse is only sexual when indicated as such by usage of the phrase “sexual intercourse”.
Unexpected to see those actual gameplay elements, as I had started to think that it was one of those text-based horror games. The absence of jumpscares and relying more on building a tense & disturbing atmosphere was a good decision. Definitely felt both unease and anxiety build in me as the story progressed, especially the DLC with the narrowing of the caves and the character's fairly accurate reactions. Really just leaves me wanting to take a deep breath by the end.
The narration reminds me of a book we read in high school called Grindel. It was also from the monsters perspective, which was both sad and horrific (just like this)
Gab, I really have been enjoying the recent delve into a variety of indie titles!! Each is such a breath of fresh air. Whenever you're down to start a new series though, I would love nothing more than to watch a Gab Smolders playthrough of Hercule Poirot: The First Cases! I absolutely adore Agatha Christie and Hercule Poirot whom you've mentioned a few times; and Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, which is similar in terms of mind palace investigation, was such a fun time!
This is VERY Frankenstein influenced. I recently reread the original novel and it’s pretty interesting how many parallels there are, from not understanding human behavior to learning to read from found books, to having a sophisticated and relatable “monster”
I love this story. Thanks for playing all these indie horror games, Gab. I think I enjoy the ambiguity of the base game more, but I appreciate the DLC mentioning a reasonable amount of time because it opens up more future possibilities for the protagonist. The dev put out a short game this past May and I hope they keep creating these stories and themes, I feel as if there's both literal and metaphorical meanings to the stories.
Random but Cat Quest I and II are on sale on Steam. Two of my most favorite lil games to exist. Cat Quest I is single player only. Cat Quest II can either be played as single or co-op (2 player). Single player modes in both you play as a lil cat! I have played both in their entirety on iOS and I am re-playing them on Steam. Highly recommend. Love your videos & content as always, Gabs. Maybe one day I'll be able to catch you live again lol.

One of my favorite horror/ghost story films is The Others, which has a similar concept for this game. SPOILERS if you haven't seen it > > > > > Nicole Kidman is a mother with 2 children and the husband is off at war. Their house starts being haunted and you don't know until the end of the film that the mother and children are dead and are the ghosts haunting the house where the living are trying to do a seance to rid the house of them. So the ghosts are haunted by the living instead of the other way around. Reverse haunting is a trope I can get behind
I was actually expecting the other DLC ending to be going inside and seeing the blood and remains, then leaving and calling the cops to deal with it, rather than just not even going inside.
I'm so curious about what we're supposed to really be. I get like a monster but still. Also I think it would have been scarier if this really was like a weird creepy human. But cool concept

The original monster (upon procreating with Marie) seems like they might also be crusted over like their 'mother'...and the ex-soldier in the DLC is transformed into the monster by one of the laughing voices that came to the original in the night

That was a really creative game. :o They should be proud of their end product. I felt so bad for the monster even though it was doing bad things.
