    Bravo Alexander! This is the only detailed video about driving an RC car. You are not only a fast pilot, but also a technically competent specialist who shares his experience. Thank you! Very smooth operation with throttle trigger, very fast brake operation. Super!

    Would be great to have seen a lap of your steering wheel side too. Even though you mention in a comment below you struggle to explain the quick, frequent movement 😅

    Fantastic Video! We need more like this! Driving technic is emphasized as the most Important but has the least coverage on TH-cam. This is the type video that will get results at track and make the most out of practice. Please put more videos like this. It’s very unique content.
    Question on this video is we’re you using any drag brake? Also when you tap brakes are you briefly tapping 25% 50% 75% or Full brake? Devil is in the details sometimes. Thanks a lot excellent topic. Can’t wait for more like this!

      Thanks! I am glad that you like the video! I usually tap the brakes fully (I have the brake strength tuned down so that slamming the brakes don't lock up the wheels).

    Great video, it would be great to have another video where you focus on the proper driving lines and how to identify them. How do you figure out what are the fastest racing lines?

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point! The main thing that I can say here is "trial and error". The theoretically fastest line isn't always in reality. It often depends on track composition, elevations, curbs (paint, as mentioned in this video) etc. If the surface is wet, this changes everything completely also. Where often its faster to drive "off line".

    Hello Alex from Miami Fl! I have a couple of questions ..... why do you move or shake your steering hand so much? How does that help the car in the cornering process? Is that something that you can explain in a video? I am new to the hobby and I am trying to learn as much as possible!

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly I can't explain why, it allows me to do small movements at a quick rate, is probably the best way to explain it.

    Nice way to teach driving! What is the amount of braking limit you use in esc/radio at this track (50%, 60%, 70%, ...) ?

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am mostly using 65-70% of brake on my Sanwa M17 radio. I fine tune it for the track and the grip level. In this particular video I am using 68%.

  • @siaschumi
    @siaschumi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your ABS approach is like that: Brake, Steer, Brake; but did you also try a gradual approach? Slowly releasing brake while slowly increasing steering until reaching the apex, which is how it is taught for real car racing? You explain it well with the weight shift, but wondering why your approach is faster than the traditional one. Can you explain this?

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not familiar with the techniques taught for real racing! This "ABS" technique works particularly well for low to medium grip asphalt tracks. The ABS technique allows me to brake more precisely for a corner, and hence, it is usually faster and more consistent for me.

    Hi Alexander !
    Great video. Thanks for sharing your tips.
    Do you do that trail braking technic in 1/12 (2wd) as well?
    Cheers

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used a similar technique in 1/12th. Even though it's not quite as effective. Furthermore, a rear wheel drive car usually benefits from braking in a straight line more than what is necessary with a 4WD car.

    About drag brake....
    what is your opinion...
    Hello from Brazil

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Israel, I always use drag brake for both modified and stock classes. It helps the car to turn, and to set it up for the corner. I recommend around 5% for stock classes, and 12-15% for modified classes. I've made a video about ESC settings. Please check it out on my channel.

    Hi Alex, back to review once more your tremendous workshop on driving skills: In the last chicane of the track that you have specifically mentioned that you need to break to transfer load on front wheels how much throttle do you use? It seems that there is no room for full throttle due to short distance to apply again the breaks. So do you use partial throttle or full throttle but you lift the throttle almost instantly?

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. I only used partial throttle in that section mentioned.

    This is really great video !!!! well done, it was such a nice and explanatory video. I have a question about the double tap on breaks. Should we double tab the break in every corner (I mean in every corner that needs break ) or apply double tap on breaks only on long straights that car carries a lot of speed ?

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the track grip and the size of the corners. This technique is more useful on big tracks with sweeping corners and low grip, such as the one in the video!

    • @constantinosdrakakis897
      @constantinosdrakakis897 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hagberg thanks for the reply. So for the track on the video have you applied double tap on breaks in every corner that actually needs breaking?

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@constantinosdrakakis897 Almost every corner. In the first left hander in front of the front straight, and at the end of the straight. And also in the 180 deg corner before the big sweeping right corner at the center of the track. In the two small corners before the loop, I just tap the brakes once, to let the car transfer the weight for an instant.

    Great video, interesting to have a look at the process of the lap. I have just a small question for you. I have a Hobbywing 1S Cell ESC. It’s the Stock Spec Version as I only race 13.5Turn motor in the GT12 class. I am just wondering about the tunability of the brakes, would you recommend a program card to do that? Or other device? What would the benefit of the program card provide please?

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The program card or the WiFi or OTA modules. They do the same thing. Just comes down to preference to what you find easier to use. Have you seen my Hw ESC setting video? Where I deal with some of these topics?

    Question.
    For this particular trwck, do you ever use 100% brakes. I mean full brake on the trigger, not on the esc / end points.
    Which leads to the next question is, does that carry over to a tight carpet co fig, say what you ran in Cleveland in 2021. Do you ever use full brakes there in mod touring.

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate, I do apply 100% brakes on the trigger. But I have my brake EPA turned down to around 60-70% which prevents the wheels from locking up. Furthermore, I'm fine tuning the brake feel with the brake force and brake frequency on the transmitter to make the brakes feel just right.

    Hi Alex, My driving style is no brake, except for stopping. I only brake by reducing the throttle input to slow down on the track. Is it necessary for me to start practicing full brakes (lifting to the maximum)instead of just slowing down if I want to increase speed. Thanks so much.

    • @hagberg
      @hagberg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, being in neutral is not very beneficial for your lap times. The goal is be on throttle or braking for most of the time. I would suggest building a driving style around this method.
