  • Triumph T140 E Test ride with the peashooters and exhaust mod, I blocked up the link pipe on the Triumph to make the bike run as though it had two separate header pipes, after doing this the bike runs great now using the peashooters. Before when I put the peashooters on with the unblocked link pipe it would run terrible no matter what I done to the carbs. It goes to show that with the unblocked link pipe there was far too much free flowing gasses with zero back pressure.
As always I write down the current carb setup after a change:-
    AMAL Mk2
    Main jet - 210
    Pilot Jet - 25
    Slide cutaway - 3
    Needle - 2C3
    Needle jet - .106
    Air jet fitted
After getting back and doing a plug chop it shows it is slightly lean so will probably move the needle clip down one notch.

I changed from cigars to peashooters on my 78 T140V about 25 years ago and didn't have to change anything else - it runs fine with the standard set up on the mk1 Concentrics and with the balanced exhaust. The only other mod I did to the exhaust (about 15 years ago) was convert the head to screw-in stubs and clamped, pushover downpipes to get a proper, gas-tight seal.

Biking sounding good. I run a 43 tooth on the rear on my ‘77 with no noticeable drop in performance. So much so I’m considering going a step further putting a 21 tooth on the front. This will need more use of the gearbox but I’m happy to sacrifice that for more comfortable main road cruising. Only problem is you have to file slots to get it in through the access cover. Think I’ll just do it when I’ve got time to draw the main shaft and get it in that way.

Hi Will, I had to do the same to the front by filing little V's just to get a standard front sprocket on, that was the first time it was changed as the bike had only done 13k when I got it, what a load of hassle just to change the front sprocket! Bad enough trying to get the chain on lol

@@OldBiker I thought a 20 tooth went through without modifying. Are you sure it isn’t a 21 you put in?

Yeah was a 20 but just needed a very slight filing to get it through, I remember talking about it with Brian me mate and he had the same issue, only a few thou all round, they must have made slightly smaller ones back in the day, new one was an after market one and if LF Harris made it then it was made poorly. I've had other stuff from LF Harris that didn't fit so not a big fan of his stuff.
