She was exactly right! I love all Zhao Liyings dramas . Yes,her beautiful eyes that dominates emotions was not there except on the 50th episode ( not sure) where Yibo was dying ..Right she was not joking about her comparison of 2 burgers. The changing of the script is what she point out.But some media portrayed it that she was not happy for the addition of two newbies actress character .She was criticized of it by some journalists and netizens. But I still enjoying watching the whole episode.I’m one of more than thrillon viewers at this moment.Still a fan of yibo and Zhao Liying.Looking forward to her and his next drama.
maybe they had to keep paying everyone when China went into lockdown including production? SO it would hve taken longer to finish also than expected - I dont know for sure but I am wondering if this is the case???
that freaking cameraman almost gave me a headache in the episode that wang yibo fainted and she had to carry him and she was wiggling to the side and then the camera also started wiggling. I was like can some please help me hold that camera
I didnt watch it yet but my aunt sometimes watches it during dinner so I’ll just be chilling there having no idea what is happening in the plot while having a big goofy smile on my face everytime YiBo appears in the scene.
To be honest, the cast probably deserves some bonus points for dealing with shitty quality sets, props and scripts. I saw some interviews with TVB legends who acted in those low budget wuxia productions you mentioned earlier and they were all lamenting about how hard it was to get into character when you deal with crappy props and scripts calling for emotion when it doesnt make any sense. They slogged through it by getting into character earlier by 'riffing off eachother' and ad-libbing. I don't think you can expect that much from rookies nowadays.
@@sarroumarbeu6810 i am actually one of them. although the other actor isnt bad. i still couldnt figure out what happen. short of feeling. the plot is just too fast maybe.
I love the legend of fei. I like that she is not too girly. The mother and chu chu is good. I like most of the characters, especially WY and ZLL. I prefer no dubbing. That girly 3 year old voice used often in several series is horrendous
I feel like people just put too much expectations in this drama, understandably it being zly’s first comeback drama and Wang Yibo’s first project after CQL. I agree that the production quality, the camera works and the editing are all terrible, but at least the two leads meet my expectations and I find their scenes very enjoyable.
I'm a yibo fan and I personally have waited for this drama ever since they have announced about this drama, and I heard about the story line of the drama and I liked it because it was about Zhou Fei and Xie Yun about their story and how Zhou Fei became a known person in the Jiang hu, and I also liked the character setting too, so I had expectations about this drama, one because they got the 2 most famous actor and actress, second as she said in this video the budget, so they had a lot of money and could have definitely made the drama CG and places look so much better. I waited for an entire year for this drama and tbh I'm kinda disappointed. The only thing I like about this drama is how godly Yibo looks and that's all.
Despite drama's shortcomings, what I like about LOF is that the female lead is not an idiot who tries to act like a cute 3 year old. Fei is a tough, loyal and a no-nonsense person. It is a refreshing change from the holier than thou FLs in most c dramas. We also get a male lead who is not a toxic male with a fragile ego. Who actually supports and admires the FL for who she is. The man keeps gifting her awesome looking swords. I can fully get behind that. Lol. The cheap looking sets aren't an issue for me if the story is good. This isn't a palace drama. So I wasn't expecting opulent sets. The story has a Robin Hood feel so for me sets fit that atmosphere. Having said that, this could have been so much better if they got a better director and better editing team. The story is good. I wish it's been told in a more coherent way. Sometimes the editing is quite jarring. I don't have any issues with actors. I think most of them did a good job. Liying is always solid. I watched Untamed before and this is Yibo's second drama l am watching. This character is quite different to Wanji. I think he did a good job and exceeded my expectations. For a 23 year old who is at the early stages of his acting career I look forward to his future work. I enjoyed what I have seen so far. So each to their own.
couldn't agree more. both the leads did an excellent job. I enjoy the drama and like the chemistry of ly and yb. if everythg leads to the reality of life, then it is not a drama nor a story. I don't understd why ppl continue to watch if they don't like it. just like what ly said, she did for ppl who enjoy, like her projects and appreciate her hard work. so those who dislike can just stop watching and stay silent. we shld respect the effort of others. sorry, this is just my perception
@@litlebeez sometimes people seem to thrive on negativity. All I know is you get back what you put out to the universe. You put so much negative energy out that's exactly what you are going to attract. If I don't like a drama l would close the video and move on with my life. Out of sight out of mind. Not harp on and on about how bad it is.
This drama was filmed the way a bad 90s wuxia drama would be filmed, with the odd zoom-ins, useless slow-mos, high contrast coloring, etc. So outdated.
That was exactly what I commented in other posts lol .the director was from HK. I understand that in HK they have limited resources so I can accept fake sceneries but HengDian is huge!
Well, you can tell that they did not read the book at all, or just skim through it. They should only have 1 to maybe 3 scriptwriters period. One writing the beginning of the story, one writing the middle of the story and the other one closing story out. Thats all, and coming together reading each others work. Then turning it over the director(s), and the production teams, for a final edit. Once, that happens bring in the actors and go from there, etc, etc.,
The director and the writers don't care about the original story, that much I can tell. I think this is the real problem with most of the failed adaptations. Too many productions done without passion and love.
@@silviacarolina8456 There were already not pretty news about this series. You can look it up. Even without those news I didn't plan to watch it anyway people hype it up because of the two main leads but I do want to hear the rant to see if some of my thoughts are right.
I think this drama was completely rushed to finish so that it can compete against the wolf, but that was a terrible mistake on their part. The wolf has been sitting for years on the shelf, just waiting to be release, legend of Fei just started again, because of the pandemic, but they didn't complete the plot of the story. They had no beginning, middle or an end to tell a story.
@@justsaynototv8366 not sure why you think they rushed it to compete against The Wolf? Apart from both being really awful, they're two completely different dramas. Why would they compete against that turd, which sat on a shelf for years (and God, I wish it had stayed there), as opposed to trying to compete against something halfway decent?
@@celinahatton2653 Because they did. The wolf is not a totally bad drama. Now some of parts of drama was totally slow, and the princess character was bad. But, it is not terrible like the LOF. Anyway, that's your opinion and this is mine.
@@justsaynototv8366 'because they did'. I didn't hear that, so I'd very much like to see your source. It would be a bizarre thing to do, to rush through post production so quickly that you could be ready to air several weeks after a terrible drama in a completely different genre finished. Not sure what they were aiming for? If they were competing for Worst Drama, then.. I guess???? Weird flex. I would have thought that Fei would be competing against good dramas in a similar genre.
@@justsaynototv8366 I agree with you 100% on Li Qin's character though - she was a terrible person and I wish she had died sooner. And the way other characters talked about her at the end, like she was some amazing person? 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Last year I have a high hope for this drama. Now I can only watch 12 episodes. The production quality is so poor, I wonder they spent so much money on casting rather than the setting quality.
The Chinese government placed a limit that no actor/actress can make more than 10% of the production cost. Many (originally most) shooting would be done on location. First, a week into filming, they encounter early snowfall, plan B back into studio. Then pandemic prolonged the whole process, causing more cost overrun. To me, someone is steadfast in staying in budget resulting in cheap editing etc etc etc...
@@Mariana-tp8fh The gov't had set this regulation couple years ago, because it was true that the budget basically all went to the main cast, which resulted in very cheezy productions. And was unfair to the supporting roles who got less pay This is from wikipedia. Since 2017: Salary limit order: From September 22, the total pay of all actors shall not exceed 40% of the total production cost. Among them, the main actors shall not exceed 70% of the total pay, and other actors shall not be less than 30% of the total pay. Besides those, some censorships weren't without reasons. for example the NATR restricted time travel dramas (mainly for tv broadcast ) because there was really such cases where some no brainers actually followed what the dramas did and tried to suicide hoping to time travel but didn't "succeed". It was on the headline
I haven't even watched Legend of Fei yet, but seeing 'rant' in the title, I already know what's up. I'm ready for this AvenueX review! I think it's sad that sometimes people would hype up dramas and movies based on who is starring in them (this doesn't apply to everyone, I just see this a lot with the works of popular actors/actresses). The popularity of the actor/actress has nothing to do with the quality of work. This hype then creates expectations, and then when expectations aren't met, people rip it apart.
But still the actors are the one hard carrying this drama, it's not the actors fault. we as fans of course will hype the idols projects. The chemistry and the act is great just the production and the messy storyline thats a big disappointment. Really hope this two leads can get to cooperate again in another great production projects so everyone hv a clear view on the actors.
I'm not a fan of anyone, but still I enjoy the first half of the drama where they didn't make big changes to the original story. It's not that bad as many people claim and the main characters are lovable (not the actors. I mean the characters). I feel sad that the production team didn't treat this story with the care it deserves. (I have read the original novel)
@@novih2039 It's not the lead actors at all. Everyone knows that they are great and talented actors. No one is blaming them at all. It's the damn plot, writing, directing, and acting because they were given a good script to act from. But the supporting actors was terrible.
Despite all.., I realy like the FL & ML character, Fei is though, loyal and dont give bullshit type, Yun is kind, supporting to her and not fragile ego male. I LOVE these kind FL & ML character in c-dramas .
The ML has done better than I expected. For someone so new to acting, he manages to feel very natural in his roles. He has an emotional intelligence which allows him to be expressive in subtle ways, both in face and body language. Agreed that I’m not seeing anything super impressive or award-winning level. Again, the script sucks and most of his character’s scenes are with the Fei character. Since that character is so monochromatic, he doesn’t have a lot to interact with.
I completely agree with the shabby drama part. The shabbiest drama I ever watched « The romance of Hua Rong » was one where you could see that everyone was invested in it, even if the budget was non existent, it had heart, it had passion.
I have seen 38 episodes of the drama now, and it honestly isn’t that bad. I’m enjoying the drama more than I thought, mostly for the storyline between Xie Yun & Zhou Fei. I personally love Wang Yibo and Zhao Liying’s chemistry, and their interaction in the drama is keeping me going! They are carrying the show tbh. The drama is not the best in terms of production or plot, but I love the storyline between Xie Yun & Zhou Fei still.
Yeah, it really isn't that bad and the main characters are good. The pacing is not helping either. I can see this drama charm but also see how bad they presented it.
I know right the only problem I would say I had was episode 40 ( you could see the noticeable scene cut) but over all its a great show to pass the time .
indeed..on my opinion its very good drama.im very excited in every episode cuz u can tell the growing of fei from a little girl naive girl to become a warrior or id say fighter..i do understand from the beginning that she's lack of emotion cuz shes a naive girl doesnt know about love all she knows is about her blade the fighting..i love zhao liying im her avid fan..im not fan of wang yibo..honestly when i heard that wang yibo was the ML of LOF..i dont know him 😂 then i heard hes 10 yrs younger to zhao liying..😂😂😂 then i search him what hes like im a bit of dissapointed cuz this guy dont know hes not match to zhao but when i watch the drama..wowwwww...in every episode there a chemistry between them even if zhao liying is older..and take note zhao liying is cute beautiful and baby face..match 😍😍😍😍..highly recommended for me this drama..i dont care what they that theres no chemistry its not good drama.its just they were lack of emotion so they did not like this drama..
Legend of Fei was so boring that I couldn’t get past the third episode. I don’t know if it was due to the script or myself, but I couldn’t bring myself to care about ANY of the characters or the plot; which is a shame because I love watching Zhao Liying’s dramas. She did a wonderful job in Story of Minglan, but her acting in Legend of Fei was... meh. Wang Yibo surprised me a lot because his acting was better than expected. If anyone watched this drama solely for his character, then I’d completely understand.
Avenuex has an uncanny ability to make accurate predictions... To this day I'm amazed at her prediction in her toxic fan video back in 2019. Then way before Legend of Fei aired, she said she has low expectations for this show. I was skeptical then since everyone else seemed to have high expectations, but now, I am totally floored by her foresight🤩😳
To be fair, I’ve seen Chinese fans complaining since the group posters were released that they looked like a classic ‘80s cdrama. I’m actually quite surprised the series still topped the charts for the past month?
Rather than big beautiful expectation, is more like people were hopping that the drama would not be that bad after ZLY express her disappointment with the burger . I mean this is the same director who did PA, so no one would be that dumb to think he would produce some magical creation. Even when the news of ZLY accept the project, her fans had been questioning her why she chose to work with the same director who cheated her up before. But fans can do nothing, so They just wish that the director woulnt screw up that much.
Aside from her predictions, being active on Weibo is what makes us chinese viewers know what's coming up 😂 their news are lightning fast regardless the reliability of sources
@@narsis273 on international level perhaps, but that drama got shit on a lot quality wise. ZLY fame came from lu zhen, boss and me, and hua qian gu. After that her drama kinda relied on her fame to become success. She was made to believe that PA (2016) would film all the scenes from the novel which she was fan of, but in the reality they didnt, hence why the ending was such a turn off.
When I was watching the drama I could already tell that avenue x is gonna hate the production design😂 the cinematgraphy the fake sets, the way the scenes are cut and put together....I have watched 20 episodes and the way the scenes are put together makes no sense..there is no flow in story...so many unnecessary characters which add nothing to the story and somehoew all are indebted to Fei's grandfather😂 the villains seem like a joke uptil now My love for yibo's character and faith in zhao liying is the only reason I havent given up on this drama yet I am so so so sad as I had high expectations from the drama...The production just seems so low budget and cheap and ruins the whole experience..They just knew that people gonna watch cuz of yibo and liying and they totally gave up on all other aspects of the drama

It's been a very long time since the last time I watched C-dramas, hell, I dont even know any of the names she's talking about. Yet, here I am watching her rant. How could anyone resist this level of eloquence and wisdom tinge with sarcasm and humour while reviewing dramas without being mesmerised. I really enjoy the content you've been giving us, keep going!
Apparently when she posted the picture of the hamburgers while filming, she already hinted that the quality of the drama will be bad. Please do a review on the Rebel Princess. Thank you.
As someone who has never read the original text, I have been enjoying this drama! I noticed the fake sets but I didn't mind them, I was just jealous of the people who got to make them. The camera work throws me off from time to time but I can ignore that. I know a lot of people are disappointed with this drama, but I am going to stay in my own little bubble and enjoy this drama for what it is. ☺
Me too!! I haven’t read the original material and so far I’m enjoying it! Like not The Untamed level of enjoy and it’s a shame it’s not supposedly living up to its hype. But I started watching it for Yibo and I think the 2 main leads acting and dubbing is quite good and the story is interesting! So definitely not in love with it like The Untamed but I’m casually enjoying it! (Perhaps too many bad guys for me to keep track of as well!)
@@zylbygdfn6542 hahahah. I tried really hard because i thought maybe it would get better and as it was zhao li ying's comeback drama. But yeah, liking the actress won't help with continuing the drama.

I love that your reviews are based on knowledge/facts and I always learn something from them. Thanks AvenueX, I really admire you for it - please keep educating us!! :)
I agree with everything you said, especially the part about the production/creative team not caring about the story. It just feels like they didn't want to put too much effort into it and just did the very minimum to have the drama out and to make money from the fans.
Getting EXTREMELY nervous with Immortality's quality as these shows come out and receive similar "problems" ... It's such a complex story with deep characters that I fear the production team will fall short ... oh no :(
These producers are just riding the hype of the original IP and rarely invest in making a good film...if you watch it as a standalone work with no expectations rather than an adaptation then I think it'll be 1) fair on the actors and author 2) easier for yourself to like too! Just don't go in expecting it to be an adaptation as most of the time only the names are the same haha
I'm a non-Chinese Asian and I have never really watched Chinese drama... But I like watching your videos sometimes because you're quite entertaining. I think you're very genuine and passionate about the topic. Also, I'm learning a lot about Chinese drama/culture! Anyway, happy new year and keep up the good work!
Oh my!! I swear I didn’t know it was shot in 2019-2020! I thought it was one of those shelved dramas that they managed to push out towards the end of last year! It looks like a 2015-2016 wuxia drama🤦🏻♀️
Watching it mainly for the main female actress...she is simply great. The chemistry between both lead actors is good. Though I find myself fast forwarding some scenes. I am still hoping that someday they will make the sequel to Princess Agents. She was absolutely awesome in that drama.
One thing you didn't touch on is the disparity between expectation and reality. If LoF is like any other low budget web drama with a small audience, then people might be more forgiving for its poor quality. But quite on the contrary, they spent so much money on advertisement prior to airing, touting "top tier actors", "superb production", and gathered so much attention beyond its original fanbase, but in the end the drama totally didn't live up to the number of trending searches. To make things worse, everyone who dares to say borderline negative about the drama comes under massive fire from crazy fans that it just incites more discontent towards the drama. All the drama reviewers are like, "Oh you gonna bash me for saying the truth? Well then I have to fight back."
Yes, this is exactly the reaction whereby heavy criticisms are due to the arrograce of their fans. These crazy fandom do not realize they are tarnishing the reputation of their 'idols' Toxic fandom trend are causing the deteriorating of drama quality in recent years. I do hope this kind of trend could be reversed so that genuine drama lovers can enjoy real good dramas.
I have to admit I actually quite like the drama. I started watching the drama bc I really loved the trailer and especially Xie Yun's character played by Yibo made me really excited for it but I have to say that I don't dislike it as much as most people seem to do. I definitely agree on most of the points you made and sometimes when I watch it I can really only wonder what they thought when they were writing this script. I also think some scenes/episodes are really stretched and I sometimes think that the plot of multiple episodes could have fitted into one single episode. But I generally really like the characters and I find the story/the plot of the drama really good which is probably why I still really enjoy watching it despite all of the things you just mentioned in the video:)

I'm more excited about your rant than the actual drama, which I stopped watching in episode 2. At least we can say it's entertaining in a different way.😂
I stopped watching when i skipped a bunch of episodes i only watched to 8 in less that 1 hour. Also i felt lik3 some of the scenes didnt belong in the first episode left me lost on what is actually the things im suppose to focus on
Also stopped after the first two eps. It's not the worst but it barely gets a passing grade. Even as WYB's fan I'm not feeling this drama. There are so many others worth my time, including all the rant videos about LoF lol
@@blossom_1573 I think it's because sometimes actors pronunciation isn't 100% correct or clear because Chinese is very complex with different tones so instead of reshooting the scene they dub over the original. But I'm not entirely sure so if anyone else knows then pls let me know too :)
I’m currently watching the Legend of Fei and I think its not that horrible. Though everyone has their own views and perspective. But one thing for sure is that the actors are great!
Loving it so far. Getting better as the story goes. Funny, cute, sad, deep...it has it all. The main leads have great cp chemistry. Looking forward to the next episodes. I dont speak chinese so the dubbing doesn't bother me. It's not the best drama i have seen but it's definitely worth my time. Dont listen to other opinions. Watch it yourself 🖤🖤
Exactly! Dubbing has always been an issue even in the untamed and recently the wolf...I'm on episode 30 and it defintely picks up! Really good plot which doesn't treat it's audience like we're stupid...WYB fight scenes are always on point too
Same here. Despite all the criticism of poor quality whatever as stated in this review, I simply enjoy this movie. I think li ying & yi bo look great together on screen. I can still feel the chemistry, especially yi bo. He did a good job. I keep waiting for what happens next between the two main leads. So, while there are parts that I sometimes fast forward, for me, this legend of fei is watchable 😊
I thought the ML played a charming rascal rather well, but I agree with the assessment of the female lead. She got better further into the drama, but at times she seemed either physically run down or perhaps was so disgusted with the quality of the show that she just went through the motions of acting. Like so wooden in so many parts where an emotional response was required and all we got was this weird stare. I’ve seen other works by her and know she has talent, which is why I was so puzzled by her behavior.
that's just it, she must've been far too disappointed with how the drama was being made which directly translated into her acting. it's quite sad really...
@@nicky9187 Princess Agents and The Story of Minglan are my favorites - particularly the story of Minglan, which I describe to friends as Jane Austen set in China. LOL
Appreciate your respectful criticism of the show. I really love the relationship between Fei and Xie Yun and that's the best part of the series. The real drama began for me around episode 32 where the real character drama and stakes came in, and the end was very satisfying. Re-watching now just their scenes which are the most interesting.
I really think you are a great drama critic. I didnt know the inside story of production or production issues etc which you narrated but now that I am enlightened, I can understand why I didnt enjoy Fei even though there was a lot of hype and excitement mainly because of the stars. I commented that I felt the acting w lack lustre n chemistry. I cant feel any passion. There you hit saying there is no passion. You are right. When there is passion whether in the scripting, acting , filming or production , it will shine. I could not bear to watch after ep 8.
Zhao Liying's usual charisma and verve are not there in this drama. Her face lacks animation. It's like she really didn't want to be there. And the makeup just awful.
I actually really like the drama although the story is not so strong but one best thing that every ep they put some quality and romantic secen of main lead i enjoy the drama
Legend of Fei is an excellent and charming drama, superb acting from the whole cast, particularly from the two leads, well acted, well played, convincingly sweet exchanges between Xie Yun and Zhou Fei, conveying a gradual growing fondness for each other as the drama develops, depicting a high degree of maturity and wisdom while maintaining some annoying naivety and innocence for their respective age as indicated on this drama which aptly exemplified the qualities of the actors' abilities and skills which is what we should be looking for, NOT the individual actors' actual age by some ridiculous individuals in their attempt to blacken and downplay in my humble opinion an excellent drama. Whilst there are some shortcomings and gaps in the story ... for example, what happened to Wu Chuchu's little brother? Although there were passing comments made on the 'intentions' of finding and uniting Wu Chuchu with her little brother, this was not followed up explicitly ... However, with that said, this on the whole is a most captivating drama, portraying a certain historical period that holds the viewers' interest, at the same time epitomising a clear line between inherent good, honour, and a sense of pride, against bad and evil. An uplifting drama that is well made, well acted, and certainly well deserving of an honest unbiased review ... Exceptionally outstanding and most enjoyable entertainment value.
ZLY lacks animation and both does a terrible job in emotional scenes, i either skip all the scenes or screencap it and show it to my friends as a meme lol
hello miss avenueX. it is such a pleasure to accidentally find you on youtube. I have much respect for you for the candid reviews (your TU was my first). wow. i thought i was the only one who thought LoF was mediocre and abandoned it just after a few episodes since it was highly and positively recommended by many folks out there. whilst i enjoyed the carefree smiles and the different outfits of WY's character, i couldn't help but questioning myself if ZLY was zoned out because she was playing an introvert character. tried very hard to embrace it but her acting skill in this was one of the 3 reasons that put my interest on the burner.
Right I really don't see the problem with legend of fei or maybe I am Just biased because I love Zhao liying ( I could careless for yibo to be honest ) but I'm really enjoying it
Thanks for the explanation. When I watched this drama, I feel something's missing, lack of the chemistry between the lead actor & actress. It turned out the script & the story line were also the problems.
I agree with everything. What has especially disappointed me is the terrible fight scenes, it is soooo obvious they are trying not to show the fight. The shots, the editing, everything is painfully bad. And I've been following ZLY works and this is the worst I've seen from her. She is clearly just going through the motions here, probably disappointed. And the dubbing somehow make it worse. The long scene where she carries WYB character is soooo awkward. I would drop it if I waited to marathon after it ended. I have nothing to complain about the chemistry, though, and that's what keeps me going. I like the leads and their relationship.
You can see the actors actually do a lot of fighting scenes (full body shot with face) in old wuxia dramas. But the way they produce those dramas are not as profitable (i guess) as idol drama. Sometimes it takes them a year just to shoot 40 eps, the martial arts choreographer is heavily involved in cinematography and directing, and the cast are usually people with background in ballet or contemporary dance. As a result, the cast have to go through a lot of martial arts, sword fight and wirework training. Popular actors nowadays may not have talent in action scenes, hence the all-over-the- place cuts, mostly body double and rarely a full body shot. Not to mention short filming period. Money is to be made quickly these days.
I actually really enjoyed the fight scenes. I thought the choreography was great. Although there are some fights that I thought was to easy. And yes your point about Fei carrying Yibo, that scene is too long.
I totally agree with what you said about feeling the love for your story - Guardian was atrocious in terms of production but you also felt that both the actors and the crew had studied the book in detail, loved the story they were trying to tell and wanted to be true to it. Even forgetting censorship for the original content, it would be a dream come true if they could redo it in all it's original context and a better budget. Legend of Fei definitely lacks that love and feels more like they chose the story because Priest was the author, rather than because they loved the story, and that makes all the difference
This is the first time I watched your review and it's also the first time I didn't complain when someone criticizing one of my favorite drama. For example, when you mentioned about the lack of emotion in Zhou Fei's cast acting, I honestly have also been wondering whether it's her way of trying to be natural as possible or just her mistake in conveying her character. Mind you that I'm not updated with the actress' personal life, so I kinda dismissed the thought lol. Some of the scenes where Xie Yun appeared also seemed to be exaggerated but I just thought that maybe the production wanted to show him as.. what we call as "perfect male lead who has his heroine always there to save him". I think it has to do with the trend these days to make the female heroine in story to be as superior as possible no matter how capable her partner is (I don't really feel sure abt this, but well, I'm not fond of "damsel in distress" kind of character either), or it's just bc of his popularity after Untamed. I laughed so hard when you mentioned about the scene set up, it's really hillarious bc I had the same thought as well (especially in drama scene when Fei dragged almost dying Zie yun and ended up fainting, I was like "okay it's a sad view but the trees though..") But well, as someone who likes reading more than watching, I agree that it's disappointing to watch an adaptation drama that butchered many elements of its original story. Especially since Priest is a very good writer it's really a shame that the drama didn't come out better than expected. Well, thankyou for reviewing the Legend of Fei, it's really entertaining.
The drama didn't meet people's expectations, however it is manageable, the storyline is ok, and the drama picks up right after episode 26, so if you stopped before 26, I urge you to watch on, you will like it atleast you won't be overly disappointed.
I agree with you. The beginning was so annoying of how Zhou Fei keeps getting hurt and how all these people who trains their whole life can give her their powers like nothing. She then became so powerful without even training. 😒 I have to say the love and cute interaction between the leads are what kept me going in the early episodes.
Knowing that it picks up after episode 26 isn't as reassuring as you think. This is actually damning because it shouldn't take 26 hours to make a show interesting. Usually i give a show 3 episodes to get me invested but i had to change it to 5 episodes after i got into c-dramas because of the long form storytelling. You actually just scared the hell out of me, i had every intention to watch it but now i don't know.
@@animec-dramaskpop6362 oh no! Sorry for the spoiler. Ignore it. There are a lot of good stuff that goes on too. You meet many interesting characters and the love story of all the characters are oh so sweet!
@@animec-dramaskpop6362 this is just what I think about the storyline, it starts alright but to me things started to unfold well and also the emotional feelings of wanting something more and protecting it started showing up then for me, others enjoyed the fighting more and for them it started getting interesting earlier, so it's just a matter of what comes first on your list, but to arrive at the complete picture, it's a nice drama. You either make up your mind to see what is in for you or you decide to drop it quickly that is up to you. I just sometimes believe no one's review is ultimate until you watch it yourself. I still hope you hang on though.
I don’t always agree with your reviews of dramas, but this time, I am in complete, 100% agreement. I tried to give it a chance but couldn’t take it anymore and dropped it, maybe I’ll just watch the final episode to see how it ended. The all over the place editing and lack of genuine emotions from ZLY were just so disappointing. I have to give credit to WYB because he showed he can be a versatile actor and I believe he will improve but overall, it was hard to believe these two characters were “in love”.
I'm very glad that I lowered my expectations going into this series because it has allowed me to mostly enjoy what I've been watching and take it as something to view as a "fun watch" versus a "serious watch". I really hope that someone picks up the English novel translation because I can tell there is a good underlying story within the drama and I'd love to read it. I enjoy Yibo's acting and I can tell that he's getting better.
I only watch the scenes between yibo and liying, mostly skip other character scenes because of bad screen writing and character wise 🥲 the interaction between fei and xie yun is the only thing that can make it possible for me to endure the worst production value, directing, editing, props and camera work. RIP another Priest masterpiece 😱😭😱😭
I really love your passionate commitment to and understanding of the film world. Thanks for posting your intelligent, analytical reviews. I love your work.
Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding of the character Zhou Fei is she is a 13 yr old child. I'm just looking at ZLY and I really don't think she can pass as a teenager on this drama. In fact, for me, she looks like a sister to her "parents" so I think she was miscast for this role :( Nothing personal against ZLY and i'm looking forward to her next drama
You are right. In the book, she is 13, but they changed her age to be 16 in the drama (along with everyone else’s I think). But still, Xie Yun still has a six year age gap with her I think? (Six years older)
Hahaha your rant video is so funny! You should consider posting it onto TH-cam as well. As for the recording, if the director were using an iPhone, the smoothness problem could’ve been fixed with something as simple as a gimbal stabilizer smh.
Ive been keeping up with the whole thing, but I kinda just dozed off and had it playing in the background for most of time, and would occasionally pay attention if I heard Chen Ruo Xuan’s voice. The whole thing is such a mess, but not to the point of disaster.
so i was searching for legend of fei clips on youtube to see whether it's worth a watch (cos cdramas require guts and stamina man cos they're all 40++ episodes) and i came across this video and WOW rarely have i come across a youtuber who is so eloquent and well-spoken, her opinions have a logical rationale. Subscribed! Jiejie I am a fan ~
My favorite "wow that is so bad" scene is when the little sister is riding the horse to her mom to tell her there is an emergency at the strong hold, and it looks like she is riding a toy horse, a stuffed animal. I laughed out loud over that. Also, it gets on my nerve that A'Fei keeps saying how bad she is, but yet she behaves as if she is amazing. and everyone seems to have heard about her and her exploits, but nobody seems to have heard anything else about the actual take downs of people. I still enjoy the drama, but of course, i am not really trying to get anything earth shattering out of it. I keep waiting for something. eventually i expect to be blown away... lol
One of the odd disconnects for me: Fei and her cousin are supposedly betrothed. Early on, this is a prominent topic. He brings it up a lot. Then, they get out in the world. Fei becomes attached to someone. He doesn’t say anything. Then, he becomes attached to someone. Never, after they leave the fortress the first time, is it ever mentioned that they are betrothed. I mean, they don’t have to stay that way. But, when they’re back at the fortress, no one says anything and there is no mention of ending that betrothal. It just doesn’t seem to have ever been a real thing. So, why was it even mentioned in the early story. It’s minor, but things such as this all over this story. You can’t get drawn into anything, because it may become moot later, anyway. There is no internal integrity.
Production in every drama is not good there are always some flaws. I like the characters and their acting. Zhao li and Yibo pairing on point so cute and adorable. Loving YiZhao
hmm if compared to 庆余年 or 琅琊榜, 有翡 becomes a let down as a production but I still enjoyed looking at Wang Yi Bo. I guess the female lead character was supposed to be a lot more "bandit" too than the sweet fighter Zhao Li Ying ended up portraying.

"where did the money go" summarizes my thoughts
The money went to covid
The money has gone into someone's POCKET! There's to much monopoly and corruption with these film projects.
Chinese fans count there's 74 ads in Fei. There's really so much money in this dramas. 10cent really got lucky
yep - it looked very budget huh...
maybe they had to keep paying everyone when China went into lockdown including production? SO it would hve taken longer to finish also than expected - I dont know for sure but I am wondering if this is the case???
that freaking cameraman almost gave me a headache in the episode that wang yibo fainted and she had to carry him and she was wiggling to the side and then the camera also started wiggling. I was like can some please help me hold that camera
Haha!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol
What episode was this?
same same thought my head was spinning. ..it goes like tht fr 10min
I fast forwarded it... 😃
Honestly Wang Yibo pretty face is the main reason I'm still watching it 😅
lol same

So do I 🙂
I didnt watch it yet but my aunt sometimes watches it during dinner so I’ll just be chilling there having no idea what is happening in the plot while having a big goofy smile on my face everytime YiBo appears in the scene.
Actually WYB face expression is the main reason I watch LOF. The way he show his character throughout his face expression is so damn so good.
I don't think you can expect that much from rookies nowadays.
true, the acting is good. its just another thing that wasnt good. poor ZLY and WYB. cause its their first project after comeback
Yet they did a pretty darn good job... Almost everyone saying they're only watching for the main characters
By all production standards it wasn't good at all... The main leads are the only redeeming quality of the show
I'm a yibo fan and I personally have waited for this drama ever since they have announced about this drama, and I heard about the story line of the drama and I liked it because it was about Zhou Fei and Xie Yun about their story and how Zhou Fei became a known person in the Jiang hu, and I also liked the character setting too, so I had expectations about this drama, one because they got the 2 most famous actor and actress, second as she said in this video the budget, so they had a lot of money and could have definitely made the drama CG and places look so much better. I waited for an entire year for this drama and tbh I'm kinda disappointed. The only thing I like about this drama is how godly Yibo looks and that's all.
Agreed
I love her responses to other men liking her!! Lmao it’s hilarious!!!
couldn't agree more. both the leads did an excellent job.
Agree. Fei and Yun are golden regarding their personalities. The relationship is one of the healthiest I've ever seen.

This drama was filmed the way a bad 90s wuxia drama would be filmed, with the odd zoom-ins, useless slow-mos, high contrast coloring, etc. So outdated.
Right, you can see the drama shortcoming because of the framing.
not necessarily outdated, most like abysmal quality...
NO,90s wuxia drama is way better than this!
That was exactly what I commented in other posts lol .the director was from HK. I understand that in HK they have limited resources so I can accept fake sceneries but HengDian is huge!
Lol
I like the characters' setting and how Liying and Yibo act. But, apparently, the director and scriptwriters didn't do a good job of telling the story.
True
Well, you can tell that they did not read the book at all, or just skim through it. They should only have 1 to maybe 3 scriptwriters period. One writing the beginning of the story, one writing the middle of the story and the other one closing story out. Thats all, and coming together reading each others work. Then turning it over the director(s), and the production teams, for a final edit. Once, that happens bring in the actors and go from there, etc, etc.,
The director and the writers don't care about the original story, that much I can tell.
I think this is the real problem with most of the failed adaptations. Too many productions done without passion and love.
Yessss
i feel really bad for yibo, because we know that he's not that bad of an actor, they've just handed him a really shitty script lmfao

One thing I like about this drama is the FL who is acting like a FL, not like a spoiled little child.
In the novel she's so much wilder, in the drama she's almost tame. BUT I agree for a drama she has a good character
Honestly feel bad for the original writer Priest, brilliant writer and tv productions had to trash their work.

@@chinoisdoll woww I just know now this info. Too many people said that the budget goes to paying actors and actresses
@@Mariana-tp8fh The gov't had set this regulation couple years ago, because it was true that the budget basically all went to the main cast, which resulted in very cheezy productions. And was unfair to the supporting roles who got less pay
This is from wikipedia. Since 2017:
Salary limit order: From September 22, the total pay of all actors shall not exceed 40% of the total production cost.
@@novih2039 I don't think op is trying to blame the actors.
So, true
@@novih2039 It's not the lead actors at all. Everyone knows that they are great and talented actors. No one is blaming them at all. It's the damn plot, writing, directing, and acting because they were given a good script to act from. But the supporting actors was terrible.
Despite all.., I realy like the FL & ML character, Fei is though, loyal and dont give bullshit type, Yun is kind, supporting to her and not fragile ego male. I LOVE these kind FL & ML character in c-dramas .
I agree! I love the relationship between Zhou Fei and Xie Yun!
Yeah despite the shortcomings this is definitely a highlight and hopefully a new shift in the genre
Yeah and I always love Lying does this type character, and the way she move/act as kungfu/martial arts master convincingly 👏👍
The ML is a pretty good actor and has lead some roles for other dramas
Me too, the chemistry between the two main characters is amazing!
Yeah, it really isn't that bad and the main characters are good. The pacing is not helping either. I can see this drama charm but also see how bad they presented it.
I know right the only problem I would say I had was episode 40 ( you could see the noticeable scene cut) but over all its a great show to pass the time .

Haha!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Watching it mainly for the main female actress...she is simply great. The chemistry between both lead actors is good. Though I find myself fast forwarding some scenes. I am still hoping that someday they will make the sequel to Princess Agents. She was absolutely awesome in that drama.
I love this content; it's so objective and informational.
So very well said. Even as a general insight for all drama productions.
I can't wait for this video to go live!!
I love your videos. They are very well thought out and you provide a really objective and unbiased view which I appreciate a lot!
These crazy fandom do not realize they are tarnishing the reputation of their 'idols'
Toxic fandom trend are causing the deteriorating of drama quality in recent years.
I do hope this kind of trend could be reversed so that genuine drama lovers can enjoy real good dramas.
I was looking forward to Avenuex's rant. It didn't disappoint!! TBH I'm just watching because ML and FL are cute together.
This drama was so disappointing, it was brining and I can’t even explain why it just was. I literally forced myself to watch episode 5
Ohh I've been waiting for this. There will be no mercy.
I second your post. Despite everything I still enjoyed it.
You should have more subscribers because you are the light for people like us who knows nothing from the base but have been introduced from the top....So, I really appreciate your review..... and I agree on word by word.
I'm more excited about your rant than the actual drama, which I stopped watching in episode 2. At least we can say it's entertaining in a different way.😂
I thought i was the only one!
I stopped watching when i skipped a bunch of episodes i only watched to 8 in less that 1 hour. Also i felt lik3 some of the scenes didnt belong in the first episode left me lost on what is actually the things im suppose to focus on
I started to watch the 1st episode idk if I want to continue watching kinda sad 😔 its very slow moving
Also stopped after the first two eps. It's not the worst but it barely gets a passing grade. Even as WYB's fan I'm not feeling this drama. There are so many others worth my time, including all the rant videos about LoF lol
@@katiirabbi I know it a shame because WYB is so handsome and in The Untamed he’s not a bad actor 😕
Well I’m glad I didn’t waste my time and dropped it after episode 3
I stopped after episode 5. Can’t handle the dub of yibo, writing and production is pretty terrible and boring.
I watched this TH-camrs video of voice dubbing for some Chinese dramas. Highly disappointed they use dubbing.
I didn't even finish episode 4 cause it's just so dull in so many ways. Terribly dissapointed cause I've been waiting for the drama for a year long.
I watched only 1 episode. Storyline was so boring!
Why do they need to dub btw??
@@blossom_1573 I think it's because sometimes actors pronunciation isn't 100% correct or clear because Chinese is very complex with different tones so instead of reshooting the scene they dub over the original. But I'm not entirely sure so if anyone else knows then pls let me know too :)
Getting my snacks ready for this
I’m currently watching the Legend of Fei and I think its not that horrible. Though everyone has their own views and perspective. But one thing for sure is that the actors are great!
I agree! I love Xie Yun & Zhou Fei’e chemistry and their interaction!

@@amychu5484 the plot is probably good because of the original author hehe
Bruh the fl rlly looked like she wanted to go home like we couldn’t feel her character I mean I think this role wasn’t for her
I thought the ML played a charming rascal rather well, but I agree with the assessment of the female lead.
Can you recommend something else she has been in that is good. I would be interested in seeing what she is like in something different
that's just it, she must've been far too disappointed with how the drama was being made which directly translated into her acting. it's quite sad really...

The trailer was not important and then seeing through the first episode-I never returned.
I think the important failure about “You Fei” is: 两位主角没有CP感. Viewers hardly feel any chemistry between two characters.
I absolutely agree! I think they are both a bit lacking in emotion, or how they play off each other as actors.
I like legend of fei and I enjoyed watching this drama,I love zhao Liying and yibo they are great actors
Right I really don't see the problem with legend of fei or maybe I am Just biased because I love Zhao liying ( I could careless for yibo to be honest ) but I'm really enjoying it
Counts me in please, I love Zhao Liying and Wang Yibo in this drama.
Me too 😅
Me too 😊
Me too. I love the story and Li ying too and Yibo did great as well.
That's also what's keeping me going as well - THEIR CHEMISTRY! I really love the interaction between Zhou Fei & Xie Yun!
@@cristina8868 yep
I totally agree with what you said about feeling the love for your story - Guardian was atrocious in terms of production but you also felt that both the actors and the crew had studied the book in detail, loved the story they were trying to tell and wanted to be true to it. Even forgetting censorship for the original content, it would be a dream come true if they could redo it in all it's original context and a better budget. Legend of Fei definitely lacks that love and feels more like they chose the story because Priest was the author, rather than because they loved the story, and that makes all the difference
Can you give review about "The Wolf"? And which drama to watch in January?
I laughed so hard when you mentioned about the scene set up, it's really hillarious bc I had the same thought as well (especially in drama scene when Fei dragged almost dying Zie yun and ended up fainting, I was like "okay it's a sad view but the trees though..")
But well, as someone who likes reading more than watching, I agree that it's disappointing to watch an adaptation drama that butchered many elements of its original story.
@@mariamabdallah7694 Ok, i'll take this into consideration.

I have been waiting for this review from the day LOF released 🤭

Exactly as expected. :p My trailer reading powers are so strong!
Oh just seeing the title I know this is gonna be epic. Better ready my popcorn.

Your reviews and comments about the dramas are very beneficial and professional . I love your videos. ❤️
RIP another Priest masterpiece 😱😭😱😭
this is me XD XD
Haha thought it was just me
I really love your passionate commitment to and understanding of the film world.
@@livianc.7713 Sadly, I don't think ZLY can pass for a 16 year old character 😔
@@lizajardeleza she can't. She's too mature. But, I mean the scriptwriter tried i guess (an half-assed attempt tho)
I agree with all the opinions you addressed regarding the lack of emotion in this drama. There is no passion 😔
Lol so the lesson is
" don't try to bank on celebrity power/status alone cause that means you will have less to focus on production and script value".
so i was searching for legend of fei clips on youtube to see whether it's worth a watch (cos cdramas require guts and stamina man cos they're all 40++ episodes) and i came across this video and WOW rarely have i come across a youtuber who is so eloquent and well-spoken, her opinions have a logical rationale.
I keep waiting for something. eventually i expect to be blown away... lol
I laughed at that scene, as well! It was hysterical.
One of the odd disconnects for me:
Fei and her cousin are supposedly betrothed.
Your comments are sooo accurate. After a few minutes into episode 1, I knew it was bad.
I couldn't even finish episode 2. Something was off and I couldn't put my finger on it.
Didn't read the original work
but the way you explained the original work sound so interested and want me to know what happened next.
There is no hundred percent perfectly made drama. All has their own flaws. At least in ds LOF , both are great in acting!
hmm if compared to 庆余年 or 琅琊榜, 有翡 becomes a let down as a production but I still enjoyed looking at Wang Yi Bo. I guess the female lead character was supposed to be a lot more "bandit" too than the sweet fighter Zhao Li Ying ended up portraying.
Thank you for the subtitles 💚💙
Her ability in acting is no question .Zhao liying is good enough as actress.
