It was my “rabbit hole” journey that took me to a whole new world of music to me!!! RIP to my wonderful grandmother. I MISS YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!😭😭😭😭
When I first heard this, it was on a classic rock station on a stereo that didn't tell you info about the song or the band. Heard again recently in passing(also like 10 years ago in the movie Ted) and looked it up. Got the Tiffany version first and thought it was good, but not what I remembered. Next on TH-cam results was a solo cover by the lead singer of Green Day, and immediately knew this wasn't the version, mostly because Green Day didn't exist when I had first heard it. So third in the results is this, original, version, that I was looking for all along for a very specific reason....the heartbeat. When the music and lyrics completely cut out for the deep heartbeat sound, it distinguishes itself from, even more than the already great singing and instrumentals, the covers and comes out on top, imo.

I had to read down this thread to learn that someone else covered this song. Tommy James was so great. The entire album “Crimson and Clover” is one of my all time favs. Every song is nearly perfect and totally captured the spirit of he 60s
First time I seen Tommy James live was in 1975 in a small Rual town at the Playland dance hall. That place was so packed a mouse could not sneak in. Was a great concert, but you could see the mafia drugs effecting him in a bad way then. So glad he found God and his power in the end. He looks better today than he did in 1975.
Tommy James and the Shondells may be the best-kept "secret" in popular music. At a time when singles (45 rpm records) outsold albums, these guys sold more singles than the Beatles for a good stretch. Just good music. I have their greatest hits album and it's solid gold music from beginning to end. This particular song, though, has always been my favorite among them. Great memories.
Tommy is a really nice guy too. I'm good friends with his cousin. Got to meet and hangout with Tommy and the band. That was about 20 years ago and he still has it going on!!!!
My sister listed to this on her transistor radio, 1969 was a great year. The summer was exciting and the music was great. I was 8 that summer, a distant memory.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Fortunate enough to hear the original and Tiffany's version. What teenage boy didn't have a Tiffany crush. She was amazingly close to the original but I still love the classics
Such a great pop song perfectly rendered with harmony, melody, rhythm, beat, etc musically it all works so well! Imo Tommy James has McCartney/Lennon level smash hit song writing skills!
Oh my God this song sure brings back lots of memories for me. I sure think of my high school boyfriend Steve oh how I miss him. Since 1970 he was lost in a car crash so yes this song has so many memories.
Quintessential pop and rock song of all time. Tommy James...Shondells. Johnny Rivers...Boston. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is an embarrassing joke for keeping these great rock performers out. Isaac Hays basically had one hit and is in the Hall of Fame. These other three have had incredible lists of several hits and they are not in the Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame is not real or even worthy of anyone's attention. Without Tommy James and the Shondells, rock and pop music is incomplete and missing its soul.
“Tommy James and the Shondells” took the music to the next level in the music industry. He molded, our hearts and souls into the next “Level” of what was to be an even better, greater, next level of music”. Thankyou Tommy and your “iconic” band for taking us to the next level.

A timeless masterpiece for a bygone epoch with rebellion, imagination and fantasy.Nothing can bring back memories better, than a song which he was once connected with.
The first concert I ever saw....It was an awesome experience. What happened to this wonderful music. I guess I live in the past but it was such good times. 👍
I would seriously give my LIMBS to go back in time to this era and grow up then. I am 35 years old and every day I know I was supposed to grow up in the 30's and 40's instead of the 80's. So much life I could have enjoyed instead of sitting on my ass watching TV and working at a computer all day long. :::sigh:::

I miss those times 💔 too much fighting anymore, so distressing, can we start over? i'm not so sure with this admin
I agree-the album is often overlooked when albums are ranked.
This song was covered in the 80's by a lady called Tiffany
0:24 Comencé a escucharla en 1971.....pero fue un éxito cuando salió 1967...ALTO VOLTAE ... JESÚS RINCÓN RODRÍGUEZ
I love the how the look on the face of the guitarist behind Tommy, the faces he pulls are wonederful
Wow! This is really good 😮 I’m going to have this on repeat for a good while.
Those were the days, I remember listening to this on the radio in the car, of course AM only!😅
How did we go from 1967 to 2022 so fast!?😢
Life is like a puff of smoke in the wind...comes - goes very quickly
the time is rough only short the rearview mirror
Time just flew on by
I think about that all the time. Where did the time go?
AM is all my Mustang had until I got an 8 track.
Grew up in the 60's and 70's and this was one of my favorite songs.
One of the world's most covered song's it's incredible.
Wow
Used to really dig the Tiffany version until I discovered this original. Now this one's my fave, seems more joyful somehow.
65 yrs old in 2 months. And my friends and i can all say best times to have grown up in small town USA!!!
Hello Karen, How are you doing?

My sister listed to this on her transistor radio, 1969 was a great year. The summer was exciting and the music was great. I was 8 that summer, a distant memory.
I was 13 in 1967, best years to be living in, still got the 68 mustang I drove around in
I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Fortunate enough to hear the original and Tiffany's version. What teenage boy didn't have a Tiffany crush. She was amazingly close to the original but I still love the classics
A GREAT love song from back in the day!
Such a great pop song perfectly rendered with harmony, melody, rhythm, beat, etc musically it all works so well! Imo Tommy James has McCartney/Lennon level smash hit song writing skills!
Maybe it's just his eyes but, he sure looks high as fck in that video.
Oh my God this song sure brings back lots of memories for me. I sure think of my high school boyfriend Steve oh how I miss him. Since 1970 he was lost in a car crash so yes this song has so many memories.
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here….
I graduated from High School in 1964 remember this song and how fun it was to be a teenager
Perfect song for us when dating, we're married over 50 yrs a go ! Still our perfect car song !
Tommy James and the shondells may God bless them all. They brought happiness to the world with their songs thanks for sharing the music video 👍🇺🇸
I miss all of the music of the 50`s 60`s and early 70`s god them was the best years of my life, wish i could go back in time and stay there
Yes these songs told the stories of our lives and our love in the late 60’s and 70’s. They were almost hypnotic
Hello Sandy, How are you doing?
How long have you been a fan 💖
My wife and I saw Tommy at Windstar many years ago. Wish we could go back and see him again at that moment in time.
I’m 45 now in 2022. But sometimes I really wish that i could have grown up during the 50’s and 60’s!
You ve got wisdom man....good fantasy to go by in today s world.
I'm 40 and grew up wishing the same thing man... music was the best back then ❤✌
You only got today, use it well.
The hall is a joke. Public Enemy is in the Hall. Jethro Tull isn't. R U fucking kidding me!!!!!
Love this song. Thank you, Tommy James!

I love this version.
“Tommy James and the Shondells” took the music to the next level in the music industry. He molded, our hearts and souls into the next “Level” of what was to be an even better, greater, next level of music”. Thankyou Tommy and your “iconic” band for taking us to the next level.
Always thought TJ and the Shondells should have been inducted in the Hall of Fame.
Oh Yes
Amazing, along with Crimson and Clover, two of my all time favorites. Great memories with these songs.
I got to see them perform LIVE at a 60’s festival, them the turtles the animals the monkeys, The Beach Boys and others it was my first concert ever😂 … Thks DAD HAD A BLAST AT LIKE 14 years old, 😅
I remember hearing this on the radio when my parents would go to work in the morning. I am 35 and just broke up with my gf off 4 years. This song gives me emotions I didn't think I had. I've had it on repeat for 30min.
I just discovered them after helping them at the airport. They were pleasant and treated me with dignity and respect
De las bellas canciones un gran abrazo a todos los escuchas desde peña alta Tláhuac CDMX Luis Carbajal pro de tenis.
That hair and sideburns are dope! I’m gonna rock that in 2022.
A timeless masterpiece for a bygone epoch with rebellion, imagination and fantasy.Nothing can bring back memories better, than a song which he was once connected with.
Truth Indeed AMEN 🙏
I lost my first love 💘 This was our song. Goodnight my love Les Friedel We will meet again one day in heaven. One mind One heart ❤
Super clásico que nunca pasarán de moda gracias por compartir este gran ejemplar video.
The first concert I ever saw....It was an awesome experience. What happened to this wonderful music. I guess I live in the past but it was such good times. 👍
Tommy James should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
That place is a sham and a scam. Pahleese.
Truth Indeed
The hall is a joke. Public Enemy in the Hall? I made my point.
and he's still singing to us during last years pandemic lockdown with voice intact, great stuff tommy.
I'm still impressed by how he manages to sing the backup vocals live.
read his autobiography, one of the best and honest biographies ever written and I have read many. He really is honest, a real guy!
I was so wishing that song could be applied to me 14 yrs and boyfriend 15! Wow over 52 yrs ago now!
:::sigh:::
Hello, how are you doing it's nice meeting you here.
My girlfriend and I did a dance routine/lip sync to this song in our elementary school talent show when I was in fifth grade. What memories....good times!
What a great song - perfectly communicating the teenage journey from innocence to experience , bringing vividly into the present feelings of time and place from our teenage years, artistically and flawlessly performed by the band and singer.
I loved Tommy James and the Shondells songs of the 60’s 70’s 80’s and the 90’s of the 20th century
Grew up listening to them. Sounds just as good to me today as back then!
Beautiful, sweet, decent, lovely, I'm thankful for having been there!!!
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here..

Nice to see over a million views on this one. I used to cover it years ago. The song never ages.
