A month later and I just picked one up for almost half price at my local game store. There is a whole pile of them in the discount bin. It's a shame really, they over ordered to a crazy degree
Thanks for the look inside this box set. I really like what they are going for with this. It's just a shame it will be another limited box set. I personally won't be picking this one up due to the boxset just dropping at the wrong time for me. I'll definitely wait till the actual starter sets drop later on and get one of those at somepoint.
I just want the individual minis from this box. The annihilators are very interesting to me. Not really a fan of hte heads having clothing attached but, a little clipping and putting a different head on there shouldn't be too hard.
I like the new orc's. They look more "realistic" as much as orcs can look realistic. The new sigmarines look "better" but I'm just not a fan of the ascetic- I prefer them to look more medieval, or chivalric
Get some feathered wings in the right size for the Stormcasts, and do an angelic "cabal" for RiH? The Stormcast models come with a solid variety of visually distinct troops that could stand in for Minions - and you have some choice for Leaders too. I consider the hero lady the perfect "Devout" for such a project. Do eet!
My family, while on vacation, stumbled into a Games Workshop store a couple of years ago, by total mistake. We got interested in the whole concept and bought the Soul Wars box that day. We found the rules books so frustrating that we actually put it up for a couple of years. Eventually, watching way too many TH-cam videos we figured it out (I think) and have been playing and painting a bit. We really enjoy the models and painting, but I don't think I will ever again buy a GW rules book. If we ever decide to get into a different game, it will be from some other company.
Everyone knows this will sell out to bots within 5 minutes. I highly doubt they will do a made-to-order like they did with Indomitus. I preordered Cursed City and GW canceled the store's allocation, so that is not a guarantee either. If you REALLY want this set then be prepared to pay at least double from scalpers. Thanks GW!
Just wait for the individual minis I guess, I refuse to buy from scalpers. If everyone else did the same, they'd drop the prices to MSRP super fuckin fast as they start losing money and keep buying all this expensive stuff that isn't moving... So they'd decide in a couple weeks to just recoop the costs. It's simple. People only scalp because people buy from scalpers
Tell ya a secret, indominus never sold out. GW paid a magazine to say it might have, then laughed at the FOMO buying. Every local game store in my area (8 within 45 minutes) had it in stock when everyone was waiting for the "special order"
A guy purchased all 15 copies of indomitus that my lgs ordered, 15! His credit card got declined on the day I got my friends to try warhammer and the owner let us have one of them.
I feel short and stocky designs was honestly a hangover from working in lead. The newer moulding tech and CAD modelling allows for more creative freedom. The new Vexillor with a banner is just outstanding.
About the new design style of spindly, skinny, fragile miniatures it is the way to combat piracy, because plastic has incredible properties that can't be replicated by pitare resin miniatures (or the result is so fragile that is not practical). Now modern resin 3d printing does not has those constraints...
Hey Uncle Tom, I know you're a big fan of Warcry, but have you considered AoS at the skirmish level? I am working on a skirmish project and I rejected Warcry and chose AoS instead. One of the reasons is the ubiquity of the warscrolls. There are free warscrolls available for every AoS model, not to mention the fact that AoS rules themselves are free to download. And as you say AoS 1.0 is very simple and 4 pages long. Almost no change are needed to play at the smaller level, it's a scalable system. Just a thought.
I think I'm going to get the Sigmarine half of this box. I have the original box set Sigmarine half, so one plus one should give me an army or so right?
Tolkien just called, he wants to have his share for the LOTR Orcs in this box. but tbh, I don't like them at all. I think that the ironjawz were perfect and I would have preferred a whole new line in their style.
I kinda get the vibe too, this looks like it would have been more at home in their LoTR game...I'm not sure I want a less cartoony (aka more 'serious' looking) fantasy war game.
Thanks Uncle Atom, I'll skip the launch box for AoS 3rd Ed. (still bitter after Cursed City, Indomitus and that Sororitas box) and look forward mostly for the updated Path to Glory/Crusade rules. The most fun my gaming group had was combining the PtG rules with the Firestorm box campaign, and I just hope the system can be "ripped" free of the rulesframe without too much hassle - the proper rules previews were less than enticing.
Regarding the skinny, more realistic, more scary looking Kruleboyz: my sneaky suspicion is that GW is jump aboard the D&D train. After all, if you need minis for your D&D campaign you can use AoS freeguild, skeletons, ogres, trolls, etc, etc - but the GW orcs aren't much like their D&D counterparts. These ones look a lot closer in size, build and appearance.
I don't think so. They make their new stuff at 32mm bases which is near unusable on a 25mm grid (doesn't seem right on large creatures, doesn't fit a 25mm square). They also don't want an influx of other vendors, and usually sculpt their stuff to not match that. They do fit the aesthetics of the mid to late '80's orcs very well though.
I'm not sure what they could do to the story of AOS to make it hold a candlelight to Fantasy for me. But the box set looks cool, thanks for the review!
I really dont like the spindlyness of all the models from the past few releases. I always loved GW models because of their very specific aesthetic, and I'm honestly feeling that era has passed.
I on the other hand, don't like the old orcs and stormcast, and am happy they make them look like living beings. In the '90's, at least humans were quite human proportioned (well, at least my plastic Bretonnian Bowmen are), they chonkiness isn't a consistent design choice.
I don’t really agree. I think the chunky aesthetic even though authentic because it brings me back to when I started playing has nothing on the new models. They are anatomically correct or almost and the models have so much dynamic! Plus they are easier to build and they have less mould lines..what’s not to like about that? Ahah
@@Anjohl that really depends on the faction. Fyreslayers, Behemat and Kharadron are solid, Nighthaunt, Lumineth and Sylvaneth are ultra fragile. The rest fall in between. I play quite rough with my game pieces (most are stored in a big tub where I take my d&d monsters from), only once did a Nighthaunt arm break.
The new Kruleboyz orruks kinda remind me of the Lord of the rings orcs. I like the new sculpts, i wonder if we will see the 40 orkz get this new style.
I'm not sure if it's just me, but the Dominion set's SCE models seems to have better physical proportion compared to some of the current existing models. I personally find them much better in the eyes. Same goes for the new Orcs give a bit of LotR vibe. Different style, but also very nice.
I stopped by my local store last week, "If I say I want a box now, do I need to say it again when the pre-orders open up?" "Nope" "Great, thanks!" So far he has never let me down, he just messaged me the price, looking forward to painting this up.

I LOVE YOUR SHIRT! Praise "Bob".
It’s still around, Im a 40k player and actually really tempted to give this a try
A month later and I just picked one up for almost half price at my local game store. There is a whole pile of them in the discount bin. It's a shame really, they over ordered to a crazy degree
Looks like Uruk-hai from LOTR to me. Might be great for those who play that game to get some extra models.
WAY too big! LOTR is proper 28mm, AoS is closer to 40mm now!
Its now October and this can still be bought from GW and most shops. Limited edition doesnt sell out these days, takes months.
@@stephenbradley3153 yes I've seen them. I don't know about that though, plenty of other limited sets have sold quickly.
AoS has existed for 6 years and we are now on 3rd edition. GW is really picking up the pace on its planned obsolescence.
It's absolutely insane!
When the lid was removed, the sound made me do a spit-take with my coffee!!! Hilarious!😊 Great video, thank you Uncle Atom!!
Subgenius t-shirt? That is a blast from the past.
I love the Hobgrots to. Looking forward to a chaos dwarf reboot.
Smaller skinnier models are cheaper and you can load more in an injection mold die/spru for the same cost as previous or less.
Exactly what I was thinking. It was a business decision.
Love the boyz you painted
I just want the individual minis from this box. The annihilators are very interesting to me. Not really a fan of hte heads having clothing attached but, a little clipping and putting a different head on there shouldn't be too hard.
I play 40k personally but when I saw those orks .... ngl I kinda wanna start a new army.
I like the new orc's. They look more "realistic" as much as orcs can look realistic. The new sigmarines look "better" but I'm just not a fan of the ascetic- I prefer them to look more medieval, or chivalric
Same here. This is why I am really looking forward to old world bretonnians
00:47 "Excuse me" LOL I'll have to start saying that
Woah, this is a nice suprise!
I wonder if there will be another Indomitus type set.
Limited run starter or not.
Looks Great! As a 40k player I probably won't hop into the game. BUT I want that ork leader to paint! It looks soooo sweet.
I want it so much!!! AoS was my main game before the pandemic. The Stormcast are they army that got me into the hobby.
Love the look on your Gut-Rippa's! Any hint on the price?
I like the new orruks, I think you're right with GW going for the less cartoony look. The scaling is definitely better on the new orruks in my opinion
I've just preordered , man what a great box!
That said... You're dead fucking right hahaha
Tell ya a secret, indominus never sold out. GW paid a magazine to say it might have, then laughed at the FOMO buying. Every local game store in my area (8 within 45 minutes) had it in stock when everyone was waiting for the "special order"
An as old WHFB player thinking about AOS, If that happens, I'll try again when 4th edition comes out.
A guy purchased all 15 copies of indomitus that my lgs ordered, 15! His credit card got declined on the day I got my friends to try warhammer and the owner let us have one of them.
Is the size still 1.3-1.5inch bases? The older stuff was not 1inch grid
I feel short and stocky designs was honestly a hangover from working in lead. The newer moulding tech and CAD modelling allows for more creative freedom. The new Vexillor with a banner is just outstanding.
as someone who doesnt play orruks, or orks. I think the new models look better. More detailed sculpts can never be a bad thing.
About the new design style of spindly, skinny, fragile miniatures it is the way to combat piracy, because plastic has incredible properties that can't be replicated by pitare resin miniatures (or the result is so fragile that is not practical). Now modern resin 3d printing does not has those constraints...
The new Orks, remind me of the Orks from Lord of the Rings
Yeah, I'll definitely be grabbing some Hobgrots down the road. I hope we see more Hobgrots stuff in the future.
Definitely with their "masters"; the Chaos Dwarfs.
Yeah, I'd be happy to see Chaos Dwarfs, though I'd also be happy to have an all Hobgrot force.
Any curious, and lucky enough to notice, it is on sell for £88, on official site, which is cheaper then even the discount sites.
Just a thought.
where would i buy something like this for a good deal. i wish it included the paints
@@jcorey2005 ah yes, "pot-grot" and " stab-grot" the epitome of seriousness
@@jcorey2005 maybe it's not about being more serious, but reflecting that they're more cunning than brutal.
Cool! Thanks for making this. I'd love to see a video of making Vindrasta as a statue.
I too enjoyed the shorter rules sets.
That book is beautiful! Can't wait to get it!
I'm getting Dark Vengeance vibes from the instruction booklet. I dig it.
Ahah
They stopped making gamepieces around 8th Edition. Now they make display pieces that can't realistically be stored/transported.
@@mycatistypingthis5450 Same the old orks and storm cast put me off but I will be buying this for those reasons. I love these models.
I want this but don't know how to play or if I'd like it. Both armies look cool.
The new Kruleboyz orruks kinda remind me of the Lord of the rings orcs. I like the new sculpts, i wonder if we will see the 40 orkz get this new style.
How did you do the gutrippaz' shields? They look awesome!
I like the new orcs a lot
Why should they keep producting it? Indomitus went out of production too
2 days later, Dominion still in stock at GW.
I was waiting the minute it went up after the Cursed City debacle.
Orruks is the word you're looking for. And I love these new orks. I've hated the goofiness of orks for so long.
Do the sigmarines need to be in every starter box, I never understood why they can't use other armies.
