Well surprise, a kit that does the surround and the bathtub. Exactly what i need to fix the existing tiles and tub i have in my rental unit bathroom. The lysol i already use on the tiles and grout but the mold returns after a few months use from the dampness so this solution will solve the return of the mold and no more grout to clean as it will be sealed forever under the epoxy Ekopel. Bravo Thumbs up Great idea and beautiful shine smooth finish it leaves. Economical to do this instead of retiling or bathfitting tube and tiles. Thank You for the solution i needed. 🤩👍👍
You can refinish shower tiles with our roll on product. our roll on bathtub kit comes with two coats that will cover up to 50 sq feet however with tile, a third coat is typically needed. If you have any more questions give us a call at 877-882-2278
Hello it looks like the pour on is a little more thick. I see it’s more difficult to work but would you recommend I use pour on in my shower stall and surround or do I have to use the roll on?
The pour on is thicker however for the surround you will want to use the roll on. The roll on is a thinned out version and its typical application is a two coat process therefore making it thicker and adding another a layer. For your shower pan you are welcome to use the pour on as it is a flat surface, we just don't recommend it for the walls as the application is complicated. You are also welcome to use the roll on for your shower pan.
How many kits for a claw foot tub? I just need to refinish mine, and this product looks like it would do good. I don't want to do the pour in, because it would be too messy, I prefer to roll it on, as the outside doesn't need painting.
For the second coat, reaching without touching the bathtub seems difficult. Do you think we could roll on the surround first, 2 coats, and than do the bathtub another day?
You can absolutely roll the surround first and do the tub part another day. Whatever your schedule allows for. Just be sure to follow all prep guidelines from our website before you apply to the tub.
Can't wait to try this product! I need to remove old paint off the tub first. Do you recommend removing paint off a tub with expoxy remover before sanding? Or should I just use sandpaper to remove the paint? I'm afraid if I just peel and sand, I will have uneven surfaces where the paint didn't peel off.
I would recommend sanding the surface smooth, as long as it it is sanded smooth it will not be uneven when the ekopel is applied. If you want to use a paint stripper you can just be sure to wash it fully off before applying ekopel.
I have purchased this product and about to use it on a bathtub which has been resealed twice in the past. A couple of questions: I assume it is best to remove the previous coat if possible as some sections have peeled off, in other sections I have been able to remove the previous coats with a razor blade, If there are sections which have not come off, I assume it can just be sanded back to smooth out the edges of the previous coat? My other question is: at what stage should/can the masking tape be removed, as I assume it should be removed before the product hardens, in particular around the drain plug? Thanks
Hello, Yes remove as much as the previous finish as possible and sand the rest smooth. The tape should be removed once the Ekopel stops running about 4-6 hours after application. For the drain, make sure this is the last place to remove the tape as Ekopel CANNOT go down the drain.
Where are the content videos you said were coming out on Facebook? I wanna pull the trigger on this, but I'm waiting for the technique for tile. How to prep and how to roll.
Hi @essohenn We are active on facebook, instagram and tik tok @refinishedbathsoultions we have been posting to these accounts redoing baths and tips and tricks. We do not have a specific video on tile however we are working on trying to make that happen.
Thank you for commenting! The coverage with Ekopel is great, and the second coat makes a significant difference in hiding imperfections. For colored surfaces, though, a third coat is usually needed for complete coverage. As long as any imperfections are properly prepped-like sanding or filling with an all-purpose Bondo-the final result will be a bright, glossy white. If you have any questions or need any guidance feel free to give us a call at 877-882-2278!
Can you use this product for a tub that has been refonished with a competitors product but is now peeling off in many places and the tub is made of cast iron claw tub.
I give this product a solid 5 stars. The drain is the biggest challenge and could use a good easy solution. But in the meantime tape and other materials will suffice.
We have used this product for our business everyday for over 5 years now and we use plumbers putty and small paper cups. We put the putty in the threads of the drain and put the cup in the putty. It keeps the product out of the drain but is easier to work with than the tape.
Hello! The surround of my tub are tiles. Will this product work on it as well? Also, do I have to regrout after, if I removed the grout precoat? Thank you!!
Hi, thank you for commenting. Yes! We recommend using the roll-on product for tiles. Any caulk or grout can be reapplied once the application is complete and dry. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
i applied the first coat of a surround project about 6 hours ago. It looks nice and shiny, but still wet to touch. Is it okay to apply the 2nd coat with the 1st still wet? I stirred parts A and B for 10 minutes and the temperature in the room has been about 70 with low humidity all day. Thanks
You can apply the second coat when it is dry to the touch, but may still be tacky. There are a variety of circumstances that impact the drying times but anywhere from 3-5 hours is usually sufficient to get to that tacky stage.
Thanks again for another informative video. Question please. Will rinsing hair dye/color stain the tub? My wife rinses her hair dye in the tun and I am concerned that if I use your product to renew our tub, it may stain when she rinses her hair color. Thank you kindly
Hi there! Yes, certain hair dyes or chemicals can cause staining on the resurface, especially within the first 30 days of curing. To prevent staining, it's best for her to rinse the hair dye in the sink rather than on the surface. If staining does occur, we recommend using baking soda along with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean it. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to give us a call at 877-882-2278!
Thank you for your comment! Unfortunately, we do not recommend using the pour-on method for vertical surfaces such as surrounds, as the material may not adhere evenly and could cause drips or uneven coverage. For best results on vertical surfaces, we recommend using the roll-on method. This allows for better control and a more even application, ensuring a smooth, professional finish. If you need any guidance on the roll-on process or have further questions about the application, feel free to reach out-we’re here to help! 877-882-2278
Hi there! Yes, we recommend extensive sanding on the surface using 100-220 grit. An orbital sander is highly recommended for this. Proper preparation is crucial, and sanding is definitely one of the key steps. If you have any other questions or need any guidance please feel free to give us a call at 877-882-2278. Thank you
I have brown shower tiles and have bought the roll on kit. Will two coats be enough to cover the brown? I don’t want to start the process and realize I need to do an extra coat to cover the color up. (I bought the correct amount, the larger kit for shower surround based on the website recommendation)
I “refinished” my tub 3 years ago with rust oleum I think. It looks terrible and is chipped. This gives me motivation to fix it. Can your products be used on tile floor?
Hi there! We have a bathtub with surround kit which covers 100 sq ft. I would recommend this kit for your tub and surround. If you have any other questions or need assistance ordering please feel free to give us a call at 877-882-2278!
I need to refinish the tiles of my bathroom, and I saw some other products indicating that tiles need to be sanded previous to apply. With this product, there is no need to sand?. Using lysol to clean the tiles previous to apply would be enough?.
Hi there! We do recommend sanding before applying Ekopel, no matter the surface. Preparation is very important for your resurface. If you have any other questions please give us a call at 877-882-2278. We are happy to assist!
Thank you for your interest! We are the manufacturers of Ekopel, and while we don’t provide the service directly, costs can vary depending on the size of the unit and your location. I recommend reaching out to a local refinisher for a more accurate quote based on your specific needs!
I know the product says it’s nontoxic. Does it have any plastic compounds or anything to that extent like is the materials of the product itself organic material or synthetic? Thank you
Just purchased/received the roll-on surround kit. In this video you clean with Lysol cleaner and then sand. However, the written directions with the kit do the opposite - sand first then use Lysol cleaner. Question is - does it matter?
Thank you for your question! As long as both the sanding and cleaning steps are done thoroughly, the order shouldn't affect the final result. The key is to ensure that the surface is properly sanded to create a smooth and even base and then cleaned effectively to remove any dust or residues before applying the roll-on product. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

I'm curious to learn from the manufacturer but also any tradespeople experienced with the product - What would a 3rd coat do for the final finish? Will it increase longevity of the finish and/or gloss, or would it just be overkill like painting a 3rd coat of white on white paint does? Trying to see if this solution is the 10yr solution we are looking for in both our bathtubs and anything to make it last longer is welcome! Thanks for the advice!
Thank you for commenting! A third coat will definitely help with the durability and longevity. Ekopel does adhere to itself so you can always apply more material!
@@RefinishedBathSolutions thanks for the help! Unfortunately my first 2 coats were amateurish and also didn’t fully cover the previous tub color so I have ordered 2 more bottles of Ekopel to do a 3rd… (and hopefully not) & 4th coat!
I will start to prepare my tub for reglazing, I can't make up my mind to do a pour-on or roll-on. If anyone can give a hint what's better and look more original. Thanks
How smooth or slightly rough after sanding should my fiberglass shower be before painting? It was repainted by a pro 20 years ago and most of the paint is on but a lot has come off . It will need a good sanding and cleaning but should the surface be smooth or a little rough when the prep is finished?? If this product can stick to very smooth fiberglass surface then it's something else! Also...how about a ceramic bath sink that has a small crack in it in the bottom and runs up the side a few inches? Can I bondo the crack and then repaint the entire sink and have it hold? The sink is still sold but it's about $275.00
I would use 80 grit for any peeling or chipped areas. Then I’d sand the whole thing with 220 grit. Yes bondo is fine to fix. You should have enough extra to roll a small sink with same 2 pack bathtub and surround kit used for the shower if you prep both at the same time.
Same problem with fisheyes and ripples. Watched all the videos and did all the prep. Maintained low humidity and 72 degree temp. The tub came out good but the sinks (old farmhouse sinks in fair condition but needing update Used the roll on but really sorry I did. The sinks. are full of ripples and the first one I resanded prior to second coat and results are certainly not what I hoped for. The second one is a little better but absolutely not professional as I had hoped to achieve after so many hours of prep. Not sure I would recommend this product as I hoped for much better and now stuck with a bit of problem.
Hello, I apologize that you did not have a good experience with our product. Our pour on material is extremely thick and can be difficult to work with however that is the best kit for sinks. We came out with the roll on mostly for the surrounds and bathtubs rather than for sinks. Like I stated for sinks we usually tell people to stick with the pour on kits. As the roll on kit is directly applied with a foam roller there is a slight orange peel finish. Sinks often also require a lot more prep than bathtubs as they typically have more contamination on there that is difficult to get off however not going to allow the ekopel to adhere creating those fisheyes. Please give us a call at 877-TUB-CAST or email us at help@ekopelusa.com if you still need help!
I used this product on a vintage drainboard sink. I watched several videos, and prepped a lot. I ended up with a lot of fish eyes and several ripples. I bought the repair kit, sand the areas and cleaned again and tried to repair. Still no good. I called customer service, they took my name and number and reason for the call and I never got a call back. I’m so disappointed because this was my dream sink and I searched for over a year. I don’t know what to do or even if there is anything I can do…
Hi @ Jillbeal4923 I am sorry to hear that your dream vintage sink did not come out as intended! If you want to email us pictures of your sink at Help@ekopelusa.com so we can better assist and understand. Fisheyes are a common problem happening in areas where the material did not fully adhere or separated. This happens when areas are not sanded areas properly, and or the area was not cleaned rinsed and or dried.
I cleaned it 2 times, washed it down, sanded 3 times, washed tha down, wiped down with micro fiber towel then used a tac cloth. When I looked back on my work there was a lot of fish eye. I re-rolled those areas but they came back as it dried. The product seemed to be hardening before I finished. Took about 1 1/2+ hours. Very disappointed with this. Guess I'm going to have to try to smooth it before second coat. Not worth $200 cost.
Hello, I am sorry to hear you did not have a good experience with our product. Prep is very important and often it looks clean while there is still soap scum that's invisible. With soap scum present on a surface fisheyes are inevitable. However a surface can look and feel clean and even be clean but fisheyes still appear. Typically we recommend sanding after the first coat and then going in with the second coat as the roll on kit is a two coat process. Assuming the second coat is already applied now I would recommend lightly sanding where needed and to flatten out the fisheyes but take off as less material as possible. Then if needed, apply a touch up kit. If you have any other questions please call us at 877-882-2278!
Used the pour on and had a few little streaks, it’s was perfect other than that. Decided to try the roll on over the pour on. Terrible! The texture is horrible! Not smooth AT ALL! You have to sand in between and after the final coat. HORRIBLE! 125 year old tub destroyed.
Hello, I apologize that your project did not turn out as intended. Our roll on product is a user friendly application that is applied by directly rolling it on the surface with a foam roller, which does result in slight texture. Just as if you were painting a wall with a foam roller it has slight texture. Between coats we do recommend sanding if you see imperfections otherwise you wouldnt need to sand it. If you have any more questions please call 877-882-2278
As a refinisher with 36 yrs experience, that has done many bathtubs and cabinets, i have to say this product is not for bathtubs. What they fail to tell you is that the roll on ekopel leaves severe orange peel.thought id try it instead of my usual hvlp method and am paying the price..complete false advertising has cost me time and money.its made for section 8 house flippers who wouldnt know the difference between quality work and lipstick on a pig
Thank you for sharing your feedback and experience with our product. We genuinely apologize for any frustration or inconvenience it may have caused you. We strive to provide clear information about the application process and any potential textures that may result. We understand that our roll-on option may not be suitable for all applications, and now have a professional spray product available. Your expertise as a refinisher with 36 years of experience is invaluable, and we take your feedback seriously. We'll certainly take your insights into consideration as we continue to improve our products and communication. Once again, we apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this has caused you.
I have rolled 8 showers with this stuff, and my work looks better than some of the "pro" tub refinishers we hired for our other homes. It's a fantastic DIY product for homeowners. If you have an HVLP, then you should have used their spray on product.
Its the same material as our pour on material. We found a way to formulate it in order to be rollable. The pour on is the thickest material there is out there compared to any spray finish. The roll on is the same material however not as thick in order to be rollable. One standard roll on application is 2 coats. You can also apply more coats if you want that extra layer
I used this product recently. Make triple sure it's applied lightly. I had a few drips but was able to roll them out. Keep an eye on for a while and use extra lighting if needed.

How many paintbrushes will be required for the tricky areas like the soap dish during application?
I used three rollers and two brushes on the first coat today. Still didn't get good smooth surface.
Do you need to caulk after the 24-hour drying period?
yes caulking is required to ensure water does not get underneath
can I combine with other colors or is only white, thanks
What about upkeep and cleaning after to maintain good appearance? What products, tools (ex: sponge only no scruffy? cleaning product?)
use scrubbing bubbles, mr clean magic eraser, baking soda. Nothing abrasive or with bleach.

Hello,
One bathtub kit will be enough for two coats. Make sure you sand really well and wash the tub with the Lysol Power toilet bowl cleaner.
@@RefinishedBathSolutions Thank you!! I sure will. I appreciate you getting back to me!

You can absolutely roll the surround first and do the tub part another day. Whatever your schedule allows for. Just be sure to follow all prep guidelines from our website before you apply to the tub.
do i neede to re do the caulk/seal and apply the product over the caulk?
No remove caulk and apply wait for it to dry then re caulk. Ekopel will not fill cracks, those need to be filled with bondo.
thank you. thinking of doing the job this coming weekend. pray for me then hahahahaahah
Does this product go right over the old caulking or does it need to be removed?
It is best to remove old caulking to prevent fisheyes.

I don’t know what to do or even if there is anything I can do…
Hi @ Jillbeal4923
I am sorry to hear that your dream vintage sink did not come out as intended!
Same thing happened to me. Sanded and prepped to the T. This roll on is not good.
Oh and I should mention I also used a razor to remove the soap buildup before the 2 cleanings.
Hello,
I apologize that your project did not turn out as intended.
I would like to discuss this. I will call on Monday.
Is the roll on just as strong as the pour on?
Is the roll on self leveling?
Its the same material as our pour on material. We found a way to formulate it in order to be rollable. The pour on is the thickest material there is out there compared to any spray finish. The roll on is the same material however not as thick in order to be rollable. One standard roll on application is 2 coats. You can also apply more coats if you want that extra layer
