A LITTLE ABOUT-ME
- I'm Cambodian and Chinese.
- I was born in November of 1983 and raised in Houston, although my heart lays in between Houston and Hawaii.
- "OG KPOP STAN": I've always used the term "OG" (supposedly "original gangster") to define being old-school, and I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Kpop was my coping mechanism from the bullying I experienced in my younger years and it's just stuck by me ever since. Also! Just to be clear: me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" doesn't mean that anyone who's listened to kpop later than me is inferior. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time.😄
- I was a hiphop dancer for about 7 years. I did the whole crew thing, auditioning thing, competition thing, choreography thing, dance instructor thing, so I have some experience in that field and I hope to be able to share some perspective from my experiences for y'all to see the extra things that I appreciate about a video when I point them out.
- My videos can have quite a lot of cuts in editing and/or my eyes will unnaturally blink rapidly sometimes. This is because of my neurological disease that came with my lupus nephritis (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome). My thinking abilities and speaking abilities struggle to align at times.
- Yes, that's Jack Sparrow's ring that I always wear in my videos. I've been a Pirates of the Caribbean fan ever since I rode the ride for the first time ever in Disneyland when I was a kid.🤓

actual answer is Dami is a wizard and she blessed us with her magic.
So about Dami's stick, she has like an artifact that fits in her hand and then she just presses a button and it extends into a stick
The closest thing I could find was a telescopic baton, it looks very different from the one Dami is using though. Might be because they manufacture telescopic batons different there and for different uses.

I would like to point out that while it isn't quite as cool as Dami's magic cane, Dreamcatcher's new light stick does come with extensions to make it into a cane which is just about the coolest thing I've seen a group do with their official light stick!
We've also gotten approval by Dreamcatcher members to bonk people

As someone who isn't really into dance, I'll say that DC is one of those few groups whose choreo is quite fun to watch. I mean, their formations and transitions are really cool and can't ignore how sync they are in their fast paced songs. Also, DC choreo intro are top tier.
Anyway, they transition from JiU to Gahyeon in the What intro was so smooth.
Dami uses this thing which I refer to as magic cane, which it is compressed into palm size and when she unlatch this lock thingy, it will pop up to be a long cane/stick. I actually bought one of those after seeing the performance too many times

Dami’s extendable stick is basically a tightly wound metal spring but with a metal band instead of a wire. You collapse it by twisting it a lot and it has a locking mechanism on one end. When it’s fully collapsed it can fit in your palm. All you have to do to extend it is pull a pin, press a button and let go. It can actually cut you up pretty good if you don’t pull your hand away when it’s extending

YES THESE SONGS - two of my favorites. Dreamcatcher have literally some of the best canons in all of K-pop and I'm living for you pointing out everything you notice. The magic stick is basically a collapsible staff that can fit in your palm, Dami had it in her belt/back pocket during the first verse and then when she goes back at the chorus, you're distracted by the handkerchiefs coming out so you don't see her pulling it out.

i really liked your reaction!! i love how you pause and rewind things that are important to point out, especially in your perception as a dancer. i loved noticing those things you pointed out, and even when you pointed out those things i already noticed but still loved seeing your reaction to them! and btw, dami's staff is a self defense weapon, i considered buying one before i even saw the choreo lol it's very convenient since it's hella small but by unlocking one little thing it becomes super big lmao

The use of the scarves blew me away. The flow of them can be crazy even a breeze can make it look bad. Then to toss and catch together is awesome. Rhythmic Gymnastic like. Haha
You & I was the song that really got me into them. As soon as I saw that move where Gahyeon holds down JiU's leg I was in love.
(Also it's not surprising you love their music so much since they have the same main producers as ATEEZ)
If I had to give a Choreo award, it would go it Dreamcatcher... and that is saying something for as much as I love Mamamoo and Monsta X choreo. I believe Siyeon and Dami once said that the Chase Me choreo is that hardest for them personally, like the amount of strength put into the moves. Dami’s stick reminded me of an collapsable baron. A super hero I like from tv show uses to modified sticks to make the collapsable bow staff/fighting stick combo.
I knew of Dreamcatcher since their debut, Chase me, I was a soft stan...
but watching the live performance of You&I and seeing Dami's magic trick, is what really made me stan them.
also what sealed the deal and officially made me a Somnie is watching DC's live cover performance of Bang Bang Bang.
I've been with them every since, for over 2 yrs now 🤗
For me, What choreo is the most graceful but also powerful choreo of Dreamcatcher. I don't get tired watching What performances in marathon.
don't forget Monday is the day new dreamcatcher arrives new album drops plus new video comeback 2021 and in Feb we can get our offical dreamcatcher light sti9cks with cape will also be made to the public :)
So the cane that Dami pops out during "You and I" is a magician's cane, that you can buy from most like, "magic" sections in toy stores and such. It's a semi-thin material so it coils and shrinks down, and when you flip the metal pin on it, it pops and extends the cane. ^^
Dami uses a magician's cane which is a coil of spring steel compressed into a tube that fits in the hand. At the push of a button it uncoils instantly. It's a dangerous prop which can cut the hand so requires a lot of practice. Also, Dami can easily conceal it in her hand because she has very long fingers. I don't know if you've noticed, but they're quite lovely and the other members have teased her about her hand actress hands.
I just want to give you some information, Dreamcatcher has comeback with their "FLEX" MV concept called "ODD EYES" on 26/01

DC's music has a comforting consistency in quality. A lot is Ollunder & LEEZ and the girls are so good at what they do. Even in the genre shifts for B-sides are perfect. You don't get that with many groups, especially pop. They crank out music so fast it seems most of the focus goes to the title tracks. DC and the Moody Blues are the only two groups I find that I like ALL their music without exception.
I think What is an underrated dance. I feel throughout the dace they really give the impression that whoever is singing, is controlling the other girls and really drawing in their attention the whole time. I really like seeing all the different ways they do that. Very interactional and motivates lots of transitions

The thing Dami uses is called a pocket staff. Hope that helps anyone coming across this comment. They're pretty cheap online. Made out of aluminum so it is fairly brittle, but just enough to be used on stage and easy to replace.
About the Magic stick, during a Fanmeet in LA she showed it off a bit. th-cam.com/video/QnxcSGib7-w/w-d-xo.html at about 17:50 in the video during the Q&A she shows it off and demonstrates it.

The drum bit you mention in what is called a drum fill. Drum fills often are used to signal a transition between sections, and are often more or less whatever the drummer feels should break things up and creat some rhythmic interest to help move the music forward.

Dami's thing is called a magic staff if I remember correctly (people already explained it below), also I personally think if you ever get the chance you should check out some of their covers like Sua's cover of copycat, havana, taki taki etc. :D

You might wanna check out their special clip Red Sun, which was choreographed by SuA. Although, any will do cause they are usually pretty good! Even their choreo for their Japanese songs (Breaking Out and Endless) are very good, but are on ponycanyon's channel instead of Dreamcatcher (ponycanyon does all their online Japanese music distribution from what I can tell).
Your expertise in dancing is perfect to appreciate even more these choreos. And every single time I go with "this is definitely the best dance in Dreamcatcher" just to be corrected in your next video on them. At this point I'm waiting Piri to spoil me again next time.

I think you meant Jiu having her leg kinda held down by Gahyeon, so that she couldn't really move during that first portion.

I think I should comment this haha but Dream Cather is the dark version of Gfriend. Yes. Gfriend is the light version and DC is the dark version. Also, DC want's to have a collaboration with Gfriend (sunbaenim) That's why I stan them.

Plain and simple. Dami has a collapsible stick. If you look close 1 side is thicker than the other. It's spring loaded which is why it pops open like that when the release is pressed. Still looks amazing though and What is still my favorite Dreamcatcher song
I'm not sure if Full Moon is on your list, but I would definitely recommend it. It's their first anniversary song. Came out between Fly High and You and I. There's a special clip as well as a dance practice for it. Will you be reacting to the comeback in 4 days? Can't wait for future dreamcatcher reactions.

Actually there is a mirror on the side they were facing. Most dance practice rooms in korean dance practice videos have L mirror
For the dance practice they don't face the mirror cause there wasn't enough space for to fit the camera.

I've watched You and I how many times and it wasn't until like last week that I realized that Sua got dragged back @2:05.
You and I dance practice was the first DC thing I saw and immediately fell in love with Yoohyeon because, well, I don’t think you could blame me. JiU has taken over since then but I still love Yoohyeon.
I always worry about the cloths they use in You and I because there was a performance where Yoohyeon’s falls and she steps on it and falls over really hard, so it always makes me nervous even in videos I’ve already seen.
About the timing thing (I’m a band nerd so this really made me want to make a comment) the reason you feel like they are doing so much in so little time is because you’re counting a new number every two beats instead of every beat. This would be easier to explain if I could just show you what I mean in person or with a sound but essentially what I’m trying to say is that as the beat is going really fast with 12345678 you’re only counting every other beat.I think you’ll hear what I mean if you listen to the drums in the bridge. The bass drum is hitting every beat really quickly as are the girls with the dance. They are literally doing a dance move on almost every beat that’s why it looks like they’re doing so much- cuz they are lol. I hope this made sense! Luv your vids❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

love your reactions! in my opinion DC are just Dancing Queens, but thats why i have a little beef with "You and I"... dont get me wrong i LOVE the choreo and Damis Magic Stick is epic, but i always viewed dreamcatcher as bein super sync and clean with their dances. the use of the handkercheif made the dance less clean in my opinion,... yeah using props is nice and way to rarely done,.. but i just dont like it with DC... yeah when its perfectly executed and nothing in the periphery can interfere it looks nearly as good as is would without the props... but one hankerchief catching the airstream of a stagefan at the wrong time makes the whole choreo look more "unclean".. sorry english is my 2nd language and i cant find a better word for unclean...and knowing they are better than that kinda sours it a bit for me
