I feel like there’s no need to try and “justify” why Astro bot won GOTY. It’s the highest rated game of the year. Literally nobody had anything bad to say about it until it got nominated and salty detractors started hating on it. People liked it not because it’s short or because it’s Sony but because it’s good ol fun.
Also the conspiracy theory on Astro Bot wining is disrespectful as fuck to a team that put out a great game, it's kinda sad we can't have anything nice in gaming anymore lol.
People's bubbles really showed in some of the response to who won, I think. None of the wins were really surprising just based on the final products delivered.
I don't know about the "astrobot won because of it's short play time, therefore leaving a positive impression on the reviewer subconsciously in comparison to the other nominees" argument. Last year Baldurs Gate 3 won, the year before Eldenring won, two ginormous games with easily hundreds of hours of gameplay.
So? That doesnt disprove that argument in the slightest, not that I personally ever believed in it, but it just doesn't. Also these are voted by games journalists, there's a very clear reason why it won

imma be honest, and a lot might disagree, and havent watched ruri reactions yet so cant say if ruri agrees aswell yet, but this was the best game awards show in a few years. the quality of the annoucements was superb (no monster hunter though :( ) and the show itself were actually good and it felt like a legit celebration of gaming. astro bot was a surprise, but not undeserving imo, in fact none of the contenders were, i had no horse in the race so i didint care much anyway none of these games need a statue for validation.

I'm pretty sure the Project Century trailer just had the sepia like colour filter to better fit the atmosphere of the Taisho era. RGG puts a heavy colour filer in pretty much all of their games, it was very deliberate.

Astro Bot appeals to fans the same way Smash Bros does; it's a celebration of the industry (or Playstation, in Astro Bot's case). My son had a ton of fun on the game, and it did a good job of continuing to utilize all of the unique capabilities of the DualSense controller. Also, people need to stop calling Astro Bot a Mario clone before people start calling Dark Souls a Witcher clone.

On the other hand thought, I dont think it deserved Game Direction. Its too simple. That would have been better in the hands of Metaphor, Balatro or Rebirth. Still salty about that one.

Okami holds such a special place in my heart, words can't describe how happy that sequel announcement made me. A pretty great show this year, definitely better than the last few. The Muppets were REALLY out of place though, self-deprecating humor can be fine but this was way too much and just plain embarrassing. Also Swen's Vincke's GotY speech was absolut GOLD.
Was expecting for Nightreign to be an Armored Core dlc, or 0.5 as it fits so well. Oh well, only 9 more years left to go for the next AC game. At least Wilds is coming. Yay.

This was the best Game Awards I have watched. They need to cut back on the intros from the presenters. I loved the muppets. Loved Sven though. That is the only exception. Loved Sven presenting. Onimusha is hype but it is so far away. I am not a huge multiplayer guy. Fromsoftware hopefully can optimize its net code for the game though. I think that will be the biggest hurdle for them. ER Night Reign will probably still have a solo mode or something. I want to play it so bad though.
Witcher 4 likely won’t be released before 2028. It JUST went into production this year. That’s why the announcement was just CGI created in Unreal. They’re using that engine now.

I think Astro Bot took the win because it was the safest choice, the other nominees were all in some ways contentious: SotE is a DLC, Ballatro while a great game is very much an indie title, Wukong was smeared by western gaming media and Metaphor is Persona fantasy edition. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying that those other games were somehow in any way inferior, quite the opposite in my opinion, but from a universal popularity standpoint Astro Bot is the most appealing. And at the end of the day The Game Awards is not necessarily "the best game" contest but rather "the most popular game" contest. As for the announcements, well, the most interesting for me personally were Solasta 2, ER Nightreighn and Witcher 4 and all of those I'm not 100% hyped. Nightreighn is a ER online spin-oof with a touch of rogue-like and battle royale, might be very cool but for me personally it looses some stuff that I so much enjoyed in Dark Souls And ER: gorgeous and varied locations, set tactical encounters and feeling of solitary exploration of a wast world. Witcher 4, while I'm completely on board with Ciri as a new protagonist, first of all, I don't like her new visual design and second, what was shown in the trailer, if it's not explained in the game is violating or somewhat disregarding the established lore of books and previous Witcher games. For example, potions - in the Witcher universe the potions that witchers use are special made for them and for all others they are incredibly deadly, because of the special mutation process that witchers were subjected to. Ciri didn't and couldn't undergo this witcher mutation process so seeing her using the potion with obvious reference to how it's a witcher specific potion with eye mutation and all is weird, but maybe they'll explain it in the game or further trailers. Also, no gameplay shown, which is a bummer. Solasta 2 is cool for me personally 'cause I very much enjoyed Solasta 1, too bad there was barely any gameplay shown so I'm not sure what's new in there aside from the graphics. Still, a pretty good TGA, not gonna lie.
I thought 2025 would be insane for gaming and even fromsoft found a way yo let me down for the first time in history you might not be able to see much from the game on here but when you go online and read the transcripts from interviews they have done with IGN and other people about the game it sounds pretty damn horrible

It's a voting and in that voting there's different parties wich votes weigh more or less and its all disclosed on the Game Awards Website as a far as I'm aware. I voted for BMW too and I'm not going around crying because a really good Plattformer won GOTY instead.
The problem imo was that the voters, at least the gamers, were only 10% worth. The other 90% were IGN and the other sorts. So no way it was as the players voted.
