- Spot the big mistake! There wasn’t meant to be music on this video - so sorry for spoiling it for some people 😩😩😩
Meanwhile - Get your free sketch from our website and enjoy painting one of the most popular subjects watercolorists love - a dragonfly! This is a subject I have tackled many times and you will find several versions in our back catalogue - some of which have been very popular over the years. Today I’m using hot pressed paper to paint this dragonfly to get a slightly different effect, and to enable me to use a fineliner pen to draw in some of the veins on the wings. I will put a sketch of this dragonfly composition on our website for you to download free of charge. Just go to dianeantone.com/free-downloads/ and find the ones you want.

Apologies to everyone for the music over this video! I hope it doesn’t spoil your enjoyment too much! I accidentally included a music track - please forgive me! Diane
I love the music!
It's beautiful!! Both music and dragonfly!🎉❤
I think the music goes beautifully with the painting! Beautiful dragonfly 😍
I prefer to hear your voice! Even querulous! There is a rhythm to it which matches the painting. Thank you for a lovely tutorial.
Ahhhh, closed captioning helped with this!! We love your voice as you know. I am sure the music was a shock to you...like hello tunes, where did you come from!? Loving that palette, it is in my shopping cart! I also love painting dragonflies so this is a great tutorial in many ways.
I’m glad it wasn’t intentional!! Listening to your voice is as enjoyable as your painting.
Love the dogs, love the sheep, love the music, love the sky and surroundings, and most of all, your teaching style with your wit and charm, even when you're feeling sassy... you're the best.
Thanks so much for those super kind words - you’ve made my day!
I agree 100% :)))))
Beautiful morning walk. Thanks for taking us with you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting !
Love your newer intro with morning walk Diane. Mr (or Mrs) Dragonfly turned out beautifully! 🐨👍
What a spectacular property you have! That big huge beautiful sky is sensational. I haven't even watched the video yet, that intro is as far as I got. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it❤️
No apologies necessary. It’s not intrusive. Love watching you paint. And listening to you daily.
Beautiful dogs, land, sheep, sunrise and painting.
Thanks so much ❤️
@@DianeAntoneStudioIndeed, it was so nice to meet all the creatures that you share your life with. Thanks for that!
Beautiful Diane, I love anything with wings! ❤
Thanks so much and I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful way to start the day. Thank you for the painting and seeing the babies this morning. I love penwork and am going to try the masking again. I don’t think mine is Windsor and Newton, must purchase that! Happy birthday to Mr. M….my sister’s big birthday is tomorrow. My mother had the best saying…”We are all going in the same direction!” Xoxoxox
Hi Denise! So glad you enjoyed it despite the loud music - duh, what a chump I am! I do find the Meeden paper is very good at dealing with masking fluid, better than some other papers. Happy birthday to your dear sister, congratulations to her, and yes, your mum was right !!!
I'm from South Korea. and I just recently discovered your channel. I love the beautiful countryside and your painting hands. I may not be able to comment often, but I watch every video you post. I'm 62 years old and just started watercolor beginner😊Your channel is a great help. Thank you❤
Thank you so much 😀 and congratulations on starting to paint in watercolor! I appreciate your support and hope you find much pleasure in watching and learning with us! Happy painting!
It’s a beautiful country isn’t it Diane, when the weather behaves xxx
It has been hard these past two years - extremes all round, but still beautiful and surviving better than many regions of France …
You live in a gorgeous place love the sheep 🐑 gorgeous tutorial 😍 thank you 😊
Thank you so much, so glad! 😊
Oh Diane, this is such a sweet video! I love your animals and peaceful land and the beautiful dragonfly. Thank you for this special treat today.
I know I can rely on you to overlook my shortcomings Carolyn !!! I felt like such a fool when Tamsin said “you decided to add music!” And I’m like “No, only at the end,” and she said “Errr, no, all the way through seven times!” Doh!
It was perfect!@@DianeAntoneStudio
What a beautiful sky! Thank you for sharing another dragonfly drawing. I think they are my favorites. :). Have a great day, Diane :)
Thank you so much 😀 so glad you enjoyed it!
I loved the music- it was so soothing watching and enjoying the lovely dragonfly emerge while the music played in the background.
So glad about that! It wasn’t intentional!!! Doh!
@@DianeAntoneStudioI agree...the music was soothing and good company.
Lovely dragonfly. Happy Birthday to your husband. Age is just a number; a positive attitude is our best tool. 👵🏻 Susan
Very relaxing video. Age is nothing to be ashamed of. It's an accomplishment this day and age! Happy birthday to your husband and I hope you enjoy the rest of the day. Lovely animals and farmland.
No, he doesn’t really care, I’m just joking !! Thanks for the birthday greeting and for your appreciation of the farmstead!
My 275th the dogs walk themselves😂. What a nice interaction with the sheep and what a nice space to live in. You still see the beauty of it and share it with us. Thanks for the vieuw and this eye pleasing painting😊wim
Yes they do thank goodness! None of us could walk little Zen far enough on a leash!
What a lovely dragonfly! I use my dragonfly mug that I bought from your website all the time. Makes me smile.
Thanks so much Delphine!!
Why does people have a hard time about there age, look at it this way. You are less having birthday, having gray hair, And hopefully not in a nursing home, my twin and I are 74, my oldest sister 82 and our runs us and a brother 80 what a blessing , so don’t be embarrassed, Happy Birthday 🎂
No, of course not, congrats on your ages, hope to get there too - he never talks about age, that’s my bug bear, I was only joking really!
What a beautiful dragon fly. Loved seeing you doggies bound around the field. The sheep look so docile ❤❤❤
They are fat and friendly!
Dear Diane, I was thankful for the background music, I have a sensitivity to sounds and many U-tubers have a synthetic sound that is very disruptive to my brain...your music was very soothing. Your morning walk with your animals was so beautiful..the sky makes me want to paint it. Please say Happy Birthday to your hubby and thank him for his generosity of your time as you teach us. Also, your comment about not worrying if my hand is a bit shaky..it's a new development. THANKS AGAIN!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words - I also can’t listen to many TH-camrs for similar reasons and I know how sensitive people are so it was mortifying to find I’d made that mistake! At least the music should have been much quieter! But you can’t change it once you’ve posted it on TH-cam, and that’s that - only take it down and I didn’t feel I could do that. You’re very kind to say all you did in such a positive way. We need more like you xxx
I found the music lovely and relaxing.
I'm so glad!
Beautiful scenery and the animals ❤
Happy birthday Mr Diane’s husband. Never be embarrassed of age!
Either way love the channel.
Thanks so much❤️
I’ve just found you today! What a blessing! I was artistic and free when I was a kid and then life happened and that all went away. I remember loving it but have totally lost confidence. I get flop sweats when attempting anything creative. Seeing your art, hearing your cheerful, calm approach, and finally feeling that I might be able to put my watercolor supplies to use without feeling embarrassed makes me so grateful. Thank you.
Hi and a warm welcome to the channel! So glad you found me, and honestly, I really really hope you can overcome your lack of confidence. I’ve got at least 500 really easy video projects, and another 300 slightly more challenging ones. Many people have found this one and started with it as a simple way back into painting: th-cam.com/video/BA3nJDNx3Mw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jeS_lIsP14woaYg2 Maybe you’ll give it a go? Best of luck and looking forward to hearing from you on here! Happy painting! Diane x
If anyone can encourage you to paint, it is Diane. Stuck around. You will love it.
A lovely sunrise with all your animals Diane! A great painting as well. I will give it a go this afternoon.
Have fun!
I just finished this one and I enjoyed the music and the painting. It was very relaxing , cant wait to frame it!!! Thank You Diane!!!
Wonderful! So glad you are pleased!
One of the things I really love about your lovely videos is hearing you thinkning as you paint. I'm glad the music was an accident because it was definitely distracting. 🙂
Happy birthday to your husband.
Love the skyline this morning. Had to smile when the dogs run thru the sheep field , the sheep didn't budge .must be used to the dogs .
Looking forward to your video .❤
Agree with no music. Lovely dragonfly! Thanks for yard pictures.
Yes, it was a mistake, pure and simple! I use a tiny bit of music at the end and sometimes at the beginning, and my brain wasn’t working right this morning! Duh!
I love the soft background music. It helps me to relax and paint.
Personally, I loved the music that was playing today!
The dragonfly was beautiful. I really enjoy your talking. It's very soothing to the ears. It reminds me of Bob Ross when he painted. Thank you for the new watercolor.
Beautiful painting and the music in the background is very soothing.....it enhances the calm atmosphere you create while painting. Thank you so much.... I'll look forward to giving this one a go. 😊🇮🇪🩷
Thanks so much Angela, I’m so glad you enjoyed the music! We used to put music on all our videos but more recently we haven’t, but maybe we will add music from time to time. Thanks again for your support and so glad that you found this an enjoyable video ❤️
You're very welcome Diane....you put so much into all of your tutorials and it's very much appreciated! God bless, take care. 🙏🇮🇪🌸
I absolutely love the epiphany light theme.
Thanks Karen, so glad you enjoyed it!
This was so enjoyable and I love the music, and the walk! Happy Birthday to your husband! 🎉🎈
Thank you so much!! So kind of you to overlook the clumsy musical accompaniment!! Doh!
Diane, this is just beautiful! Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Very nice and Great Paintings, Thanks for sharing. 🙏 🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌🤌🤌🤌💞💞💞💞💯💯
So enjoy seeing your lovely 19:14 farm and adorable sheep and dogs! It looks so peaceful! The music was also lovely and peaceful. And of course the painting is magnificent. This has been by far my favorite series. How you come up with something different every day is mind-boggling. And yes, I am very glad to hear that we are helping to keep you and the farm going. ❤
The music was nice and I love your dragonfly
So glad you enjoyed it all!❤️
So beautiful where you live! Thanks for the scene of sunrise I believe it’s. Thanks for sharing your knowledge to us.
My pleasure❤️
Last night I tried to say I love your dragonflies but my phone only gave me a revolving circle…not access so I came back today and enjoyed again the painting and your lovely farm! That sunrise would make another great painting!
Добрый вечер, милая Диана. Роскошное видео: сельский пейзаж умиротворяет! А стрекоза готовит нас к весенне- летнему сезону! Спасибо❤
Thanks for your kind words and support - so glad you enjoyed the show!
I mellowed out for the first time all day watching this beautiful painting of the dragonfly! You make it look so easy! Love the music and the colors and the semi-abstract background. Thanks Diane!
Thanks so much 😊 that means a great deal to me after my colossal mistake of leaving in the music by accident !!!
@@DianeAntoneStudioAt one point you said we should listen to the radio while painting this. Thanks to the music, this was not necessary 😊 Thanks, Diane.
The scenery, the animals, the soft music and your painting equals nirvana! Thank you!!!
I love It! I only usted masking fluid once AND a really like the effect. They look gorgeous, thank you for sharing Diane.
Thanks so much 😊
Hi Diane! Thank you for taking us along on a bit of a walk at dawn. I really enjoyed that first minute! Also, I liked the music in the background - I found it very relaxing. Best of all was the tutorial! I haven't seen you do anything quite like this in a very long time. I think I will use plastic film over the water part of the picture. The dark background contrasted well with the dragonfly. Terrific! Can't wait to start! THANK YOU! Susan
Glad you enjoyed it Susan, it was a pleasure to paint and could be done in so many ways, you’ll have fun. Tamsin has been trying to persuade me to do another dragonfly for weeks and finally I did it - you have to be in the right frame of mind, that’s the thing! Happy painting!
fantastic video, such a good tutorial ☺☺☺
Thanks so much 😊
Beautiful 😊💖
Diane, what a lovely place to lie. It all looks so beautiful and peaceful and the animals must restore one's soul. I'm so jealous. 😍🤪🥰
It really is, although it has its drawbacks - lots of physical work I can’t do now!
@@DianeAntoneStudio I bet animals and a farm need a lot of work, 24/7, but I hope worth it. 😀
I loved it all. The music the painting and the narrative and the colors.
Beautiful work. Enjoyed this immensely!
Thank you very much, that means a lot to me in compensation for my colossal mistake of leaving in the music by accident !!
What a peacefulway to start the day. Beautiful sky and surroundings. Great background...perfect for a delicate dragonfly. Have done a littke masking years ago. Need to try it again. And I actually liked the soft music behind your voice. Fit the mood of the painting for me. ❤
Many thanks Connie, I think the world divides into two groups - those who love music backgrounds and those who don’t. Thanks for your kind words !
This is beautiful I love dragonflies and always thank you for sharing your farm with us. 😊❤
As usual I am behind on watching your lovely watercolor videos. Love the music and the morning countryside so peaceful and beautiful. Happy Late Birthdayday to your husband. I always learn something from your videos for I am a self taught watercolorist and artist.
Love your place. So serene. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of it. And of course, your painting. Always a pleasure!
Beautiful farm Diane!
You are blessed with lots of beautiful inspiration 🥰
I’m so glad you showed how to use the masking fluid !
Hello Diane! It is so great to see you doing what you love! Your work is AMAZING! I have enjoyed your videos so so much!
The music was fine! By the way, we have a bottle of stuff here in the US called 'Goo Gone' ... it gets off sticky stuff like the glue from a label. Goo Gone works great to get masking fluid off brushes! Just do it quickly. Thanks for the wonderful dragonfly! It was so much fun and on a day when I needed cheering up. Thank you!
Your Golden is gorgeous as well as the Brittany spaniel and the sheep. No worries on the music. Quin gold goes with everything in my opinion.
Yes, it’s a great mixer!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful & peaceful surroundings. The music was fine - soft & relaxing, music I might work by.
Peaceful sunrise over your lovely home. I had to stop halfway through the video to go to my day job, which really gets in the way of my hobby! 😂 Will come back and finish it up tonight.
Just finished watching this and that dragonfly is beautiful. Thank you for another lovely lesson. 😊😊❤❤
I love the wings on this one and can't wait to have a go, Thank you Diane.
The music was lovely, not overpowering, or competing with your voice level. Beautiful dragon fly and enjoyed watching the techniques and color combos and as newbie am learning about dashing on some paint and having it come looking like a painting, lol. I will try that dabbing on instead of just smearing across the page as you said. Tfs
Glad you enjoyed it! It seems to depend on the device people use, some have said it’s too loud, others that it’s fine…Yes, please try the “painterly” approach rather than the often-advocated “house-painting approach” LOL
This is very pretty.
I love painting dragonfly scenes. I use pearlescent watercolour for the wings to give them a bit of a sheen and spatter a bit of metallic for interest.
Lovely video, Diane. Lovely red sky in the beginning. We had the same in Denmark and I read that it is due to sand from the Sahara 😊
Love this video, so peaceful . Happy Birthday to your husband !
Simply BEAUTIFUL video Diane ! Thank you ! Kind regards - Judi = Australia 😄🌻
I’m enjoying your videos so much and learning a lot. So glad you showed the masking fluid “in real life.” That was very helpful❣️
Thank you so much!
I just bought a set of those rubbery things to use for masking fluid. I had no idea they would be so large...like a size 10 paint brush handle but with fairly small tips-made from silicone. A toothpick is exactly what I have been using for tiny lines. Dip, stroke, dip, stroke, over and over. Now I want a silicone thingy for small areas that would work better than the little set I just bought.
Here’s a link to another set that might be what you’re looking for amzn.to/3SlLYJm - I should get some for myself, I used to have them but I can’t find them at the moment !
OMGOSH…..❤……I LOVE your style in the way you teach. So natural and understandable. I’ve been an artist most of my life, but always learn from other artists…..something new! Happy I found your channel. Bless you for sharing your gifts❤
Thank you so much! I’m honoured that you enjoy watching, as an artist yourself x
Beautiful painting! Thanks
Thank you too!
Wow what a beautiful sky.
I love everything about this! Beautiful place, gorgeous painting!
Thank you Diane, I really liked doing this and painting along listening to the music and your voice. I learned how to use masking fluid, never really used it before.
Wonderful! I think a lot of people use it badly, it can really make a painting pop if you use it right and I’ve learnt some techniques myself with this challenge so I’m happy too!
the masking fluid was very easy to remove on the hot press paper too, I used one of those bumpy erasers, forget what it's called, this is maybe the best watercolor I've ever done!
I have just seen this video, Diane. The music is pleasant, and it's always wonderful to see you create something amazing. Meanwhile you always help me to believe I can paint something similar too. 💕
Thank you so much!
I love your animals! They are very cute.
I Love your tutorials, with or without music :)
I really was taken with this! And so far it is turning out great! Thank you so much.
I loved painting this! Thank you Diane!
Yay!!! Thank you so much!
Very exciting!
Now to download the sketch and give it a try!
love the background!!! The dragonfly is gorgeous!!! well, guess I'm saying I love the whole picture!!! PS: received my brushes - ouuuuuu - haven't used them yet but soon, really, really soon!
So beautiful and delicate! And I actually noticed that I was enjoying the music!
Thanks Karen, a stupid mistake, I hope I’m forgiven!
No I mean I really liked it! Nothing to forgive lol!
Background is awesome too ❤
I haven't been painting because I've been ill, but I'm really going to try and paint this marvelous dragonfly. I don't have any masking fluid. So I'll try something else! Good video Diane! ❤ love it! So much fun!
I'm probably going to do the same. I believe I have some masking fluid, but I've never used it... it's just so fiddly. I will probably put a layer of water over the paper, going around the bits I want left out ...the dragon fly and reeds. (Also a little fiddly) the watercolor will follow the water. I suspect it will have a different effect. I'll just have to see.
You could use some candle wax or a white crayon to put a paint resist on the reeds, that would look nice. You could use that on the wings too, around the edges, to keep a fragile look. The body you can just paint over the background because it’s darker. Have fun!
@DianeAntoneStud I thank you very much. But then how do I take the wax off? I mean to paint over it. Oh I guess I can. I did the snowman that way. I'm so grateful to you and your being so wise! 💓
I too was very surprised to hear the music. I very much prefer the videos without, so I'm glad it was a mistake and not a deliberate choice. Nevertheless, the video and tutorial were lovely. 😊
Yes, the music is not going to be a regular feature! Only at the beginning and end of the video if at all. It takes a lot of time to do it well and it isn’t generally appreciated so out it goes!
Lovely video and music and sunset! masking fluid too, few show how to use it. Thanks!
you r awesome, love your work, your beautiful art
This is stunnning. Thank you. I love it.
I use a glass pen to apply masking fluid in fine lines. The glass pen is easy to clean.
Loved your intro. The painting is so pretty! Happy Birthday to your hubs. My b-day is the 31st. Thanks much for sharing this.
Thank you so much Kathy, and thanks for not hating the musical mistake! 🤗
I love the music !
I loved this one, especially the colors. Generally don’t care for music as I can be distracted by it however it seemed to add to the relaxing setting and I focused on your voice. Heard you mention the champagne glass video and just looked for it, but can’t find it. Was it removed? Thank you for helping motivate me to start learning watercolor - have always admired the work but never thought it would be something i could tackle.
Hi Donna, thanks so much for your kind message! About the champagne glasses, that was one of the members only videos, but I will be making it available to everyone next month. I’m glad you didn’t mind the music! Maybe as someone said it was a happy accident as lots of people have been very kind about it! Computers have a way of catching you out when you take your eye off the ball! Glad that you are enjoying the videos, and I promise that the champagne gloss one will be coming soon!
Had a go at it and so enjoyed it. ❤thank you
I love love love this piece. Thanks for the free download ❤
You are so welcome!
Another great video! This was so relaxing and fun
Glad you enjoyed it Amanda!
LOVE!
