I toured FOH in the late 70's and early 80's, we had these monster size desk, with 4 racks full of outboard effects , compressors, eq,s, all redundant, and it's wild seeing it all in one mid size case these days
Awesome video! really makes me miss being on tour being a roadie and get back into shape to get back into going on the road with bands. I love the road life.
Loving the videos! Is it possible in addition to how you mic up the drum set, you can also show how the guitars and bass are ran to? I'm assuming they are just Direct Out of whatever Quad Cortex/Kemper/AxeFx is being used, but I love seeing the nerdy stuff of how things are routed.
Great video of life on tour. Should showcase a video of your favorite things on your dlive and working around the console. I love the dlive and would love to see others on how they work their dlive shows! One question my engineer friend and I are curious how much this happens on most tours; do you "time align" your drum mics down to the wave form lining up & hitting dead on for each show?? Lots of skills there I'm sure; I tip my hat to you guys.
I actually filmed a full run though of my show file from this tour and realised after it was in the wrong frame rate or something and the footage was unusable.... Ill probably try and do it again next time i hire a dlive!
and with drums, no i dont do any time aligning, both my kick mics are inside the kick with a kelly shu mount so i find these are pretty spot on already
what kind of clamps are you using for toms/snare? they look like magic arms, i'm still using LPs on snare and ditched clamps on toms since i started using beta98 with their nice little clamp but i'm always on the hunt for new things edit: nevermind, you said it a couple minutes after in the vid, smallrig arms
Is the KSL house PA or are you at the stage where you're able to tour your own PA? How do you find the SL series, do you find the cardioid design to be a benefit for the band? Do you know if the system was AP?
This venue doesn't have any PA in so we had to bring the PA in for this show. KSL was my choice for this room for a tight sound down the narrow room. It worked really well!
The labels on the cases come with the hire gear from solotech. im sure you can buy some generic ones from places online like this one: www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_tour_label_177_x_127mm_weiss.htm?offid=1&affid=947
I’ve been to a concert in that venue recently and the sound in the back (behind the halfway point) of the venue was quite bad. I’m not an audio tech at all, but I was curious as to how you tackled that problem.
@@RattlinBonesClub Thanks for your response! Was using a DLive a requirement for the support acts because of the infrastructure (sharing stageboxes and such) or do their FOH guys just have good taste?
@@Richard1977 the c1500 was the support bands engineers choice! we didnt share any stage boxes, each band had their own console and stage racks. Ive known both the support bands engineers for a few years so it was a fun tour to have them on and all on dlive
@RattlinBonesClub I am guessing great minds think alike? I have been part of the A&H family since when the GL2 was still very current. Seen the lows when Soundcraft and Midas (among others) were the "better brands" and A&H was seen as a lesser brand. Glad to see young(er) engineers appreciate the brand again as I have always been a believer. Not to mention the excellent support received from both their distributor as well as A&H themselves going above and beyond to the point of getting a package a few weeks after Prolight and Sound with a custom solution to a problem I discussed with one of their engineers at Prolight and Sound. Those are things that tie you to a brand for life.
Bottom bunk, clearly a Sr on the crew 😄 Never had a two-floor tour bus in the states. Is the ride rough in the bunks? Must be nice to sleep in. I was an LD....
Could you possibly include a system tech an tuning to your videos? Just discovered you do foh for The Rose. Did you do foh for them in Cebu, Philippines?
I can maybe look at doing a video on room tuning soon! I didnt do the rose in Cebu. I mixed them in Manila last year: th-cam.com/video/d-G4JI9f1tc/w-d-xo.html And i was with them in Manila this year as Production Manager.
Why not tour the drums setup in the riser completely assembled and miked up? Every time you load in you only have to connect a CAT cable to the stagebox and you are ready to go.... Time saver!
Erm because you need to have everything fit in a truck as well if you just leave it as it is it would easily brake. I have rarely heard of people who do this.
@@jamesstevenson9340 Well, I do this with drum rigs, keyboard rigs and percussion. We came to the conclusion that the hours we save assembling far outweighs the space we save in the truck. As long as everything is tightly secured there's very little chance of damage.

It looks like it. Good for machines and manufacture but not music. Worst I have been in was Bingley Hall, Stafford, UK. Literally a cattle market. But used for gigs. A rectangular box with a low roof. Hot, terrible sightlines, poor parking facilities. Yet major acts played their e.g. Yes, Floyd, The Who, Rush until arenas were built.
I always love the monitor EQ bits of your videos. Every time you scream the words "LOUD SHOUTING MUSIC!" it makes me go "HELL YEAHHHHH"

As a person who lives near cologne it is super interesting to see behind the scenes of the venue and especially of your work. Thank you man :)
Awesome, thank you!
Right! I am from Frankfurt, but been to the Palladium a couple times (Alter Bridge and Slash/Myles). Recognized it immedieatly! :)
This deserves a million views! What an incredible insight, you did a day of work there sir!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is so interesting lad, so much more going on than I ever thought! Props to you and the rest of the crew smashing each show!

@user-xq2yc3ep4h Luck! Unfortunately, mine ran out years ago. I really miss being on the road.
Thank you for sharing this
I guess I found my new favourite channel! Love it, thanks for making these videos :))
Thanks 🙏 🙏🫡
as a stagehand, I hate all venues that dont have a proper loading dock, this also goes for all barns and arena's.
Then never work in Germany.
Thanks for the video - most enjoyable.
about to do the same again in April for Great American Ghost. I think we are gonna use the mic setup on the kick for ears also. super rad
Yeahh!! This video is 🔥🔥
As always, wonderful videos
Glad you like them!
Love the clamps!
They are great!

massive work mr. !
First time watched an ad on YT. Well done, chief! Your way of talking is VERY entertaining. If you had a voiceover with the videos would be fire ...

Its all about that Kit Kat chunky white candy bar i just saw i need to try that! 😋

So good. I’m a big D-Live and Audio Technica fun myself. What mic are you using for kick drum?
Kick drum is a shure 91 for the in and a ATM-250 for the out

Whats the average time you wake up/go to sleep on tour? This is assuming you live healthy and not party too much ha.
