Nice video! I'm glad there are more and more TM/Sound/Light/Manager doing videos like this to show what's happening behind the shows. I did some videos like this when I was a promoter but there were way smaller shows. Btw, stoked to see Chris here working with WSS or Enter Shikari. I met him at a show I promoted with only a couple of people. Now he's killing it for bands in front of the biggest crowds. Nice team you're in!
Was about 15 meters to your left during this show, great one. Thanks for showing us the insides. A bit cheap they only give you one meal token, when you see the money they make...
Also sound guy here! It is very stressful, but also makes a lot of fun. And yeah, you can ruin it for everybody, when you don't know what you're doing. 😅
This just happened to pop up on my youtube feed. I was there watching the show. Hellfest is an awesome venue and thanks for putting on a equally awesome show. It's very much appreciated. If you had looked directly down while watching Tom Morello, you would have seen my shiney bald hear in the PMR disabled section haha
what a great super mega show.. On my midas m32R, latency also occurs if something is inserted into the LR matrix and nothing is inserted into the sub matrix. good job from the systems technician.. greetings from Spain..
Saw you a few days before in Strasbourg (I was just in front of the mixconsol barriers, the only guy with a backpack lol) , you did a really great job, managing the low end in that space is pretty hard, but you nailed it ;)
Great to see videos like this. Definitely helps give insight into what goes on behind the scenes. I'd be really curious to know your experience of working in France versus the UK or the US. Anything jump out as different about working in that country versus elsewhere in the world?
Great video! Thanks for sharing! Do you have backup equipment for a quick replacement if something dies? Has this happened during a concert? I imagine there're places that energy supply sucks.
We have a backup MacBook for the playback setup and a backup quad cortex for the lead guitarist but apart from that we don’t really have anything else to back up. It would just be a case of coming up with a solution for the problem if anything happened 😬
Hey there! Fantastic content! I was at Graspop Festival and the sound was incredible! Could you explain the setup for a festival of this size (like Graspop or Hellfest where there are two stages)? I noticed there are two sets of speakers between the stages. How is the signal split between them? I assume your standard output is LR with subs on aux, but how are the mains configured? Are they fed as LR + LR or is it a different setup?
I send them left right and sub. The festival then sends to the speaker stacks, left and right to both stages. So standing in the middle I actually hear right/left from the 2 stacks in the middle of the stages.
Bro...how do you record the band? is it mix playback or recorded playback....and one more please make a mixing tips on live band...the sound is amazing , great video
Was the coffee Costa? Interesting on the latency - I thought all A&H FPGA consoles were phase corrected across the outputs? Wondering what set that off. Thanks for posting!
One thing I've wanted to know: Are the backing tracks that WSS use (the electronic/synth stuff) in FLAC or WAV at all? Just really intrigued 😁 You did an amazing job! That burger looked lush 😋
Wondering what did the sys tech used to check for the LRS phase allignment, did he show you the smaart ref loop betwen the channels and the pink noise?
Hey guys, I'm curious about what equipment they used to integrate the FOH Console signal brought by different teams into the same system? Was it a digital console? Also, how did they detect that there was a phase issue with your output?
Anyone know the song at 5:40? Im not a metal head at all so I woildnt have a clue about the sound design, but its cool to hear an acid line in a live performance. Thats dope as.
It’s a porter & davies butt kicker. An amp that makes the drummers seat vibrate when he hits the kick drum (or whichever inputs you send to it) This helps him feel the drums he’s hitting abit more
Pink noise is a signal generated of every frequency together. This routed to each output individually means we can check everything is patched correctly. The system is muted while I send this so it’s not coming through while the other band is playing. My outputs only get unmuted when it’s my time to mix.
It’s on my main LR bus Adds some eq, hf control and I use the stereo width but honestly I don’t think that does much haha But the eq shapes the mix nicely 🫡
When you do shows like this that have two side-by-side stages with two dedicated systems for each, is either band running through both systems? Or is each band running through their own respective system
The band runs through both systems at the same time. So actually standing in the middle at the FOH position I’m actually listening to Right / Left in the centre. As the speaks will go Left/right/left/right with 2 hangs in the centre.
@@RattlinBonesClub wow! Idk why but thats so cool to me, im a sound guy in jersey and im slowly working my way up. Im doing the usual bar or privavte event gig. Thanks so much for answering! I always wondered that
Your mix sounded way better than that from the TV stream. Thx for the insights!
Best festival I've played ever!!!! Damn I wanna go back!
Hellfest is great!

Thanks 🙏
It was cool to see you at work during pre-show, as I follow your chanel for a long time. It was a great show.
Thanks 🙏
Great vid and good catch from the system tech. Cracking board mix!!! 👍🏻
Thanks 🙏
Came here after getting hooked on Matt Horn content and wanting more. Your job looks unbelievable stressful, you can make and break a performance!
Nice! I love that guys content so it’s cool to see some crossover viewers 🤘

Great video! A few of my friends were working FOH at that festival.
I love every thing that you do
The sound was great good job!
Thank you 😋

7:26 a little Fear Factory music to eat to. Great video keep kicking ass!!
Yeah it was nice to eat while being blasted by live music and not able to talk to the person next to me 🫠
I love your content bro! Regards from Polish sound engineer

France is usually pretty great to work in, they are pretty on it with their db limit but at 102 over 15 it’s very reasonable.
@@RattlinBonesClub I appreciate the insight!

Coffee was just a machine in catering, wasn’t that good tbh… 😭

They are all wav’s I think running on an Abelton session

these videos are fuckin sick, thank you!
Thanks bro! 🙏
Wondering what did the sys tech used to check for the LRS phase allignment, did he show you the smaart ref loop betwen the channels and the pink noise?
Yeah he showed me a loop from the pink noise, then he said it looked like latency from an insert and I knew exactly what I’d done 🫠
@@RattlinBonesClub must be great when those people are working with you not against you! sounded great, thanks for putting these up.
Hey guys, I'm curious about what equipment they used to integrate the FOH Console signal brought by different teams into the same system? Was it a digital console? Also, how did they detect that there was a phase issue with your output?
1 meal token for a whole day is criminal
Innit! Terrible for such a big festival
dig you channel 🤘

@@Shtave3 The song is "Sleeps Society" by While She Sleeps

I always have an rnd 5045 with me these days. are you using the fusion on the LR bus?
Yeah the 5045’s are so good!!!
LR bus goes into the fusion and the. The maxxBCL 🫡
le genre de video qui donne envie de bosser avec vous ...mais bon ....le milieu est tellement compliqué a integrer ....
What happenet to TV stream audio? This sound really way better
I’m not sure, I’ve not seen the stream, usually they just take a copy of my desk mix so I’m not sure what happened!
At minute 1:27 theirs a green piece of equipment on the drum riser what is that? I’ve then many times before
It’s a porter & davies butt kicker. An amp that makes the drummers seat vibrate when he hits the kick drum (or whichever inputs you send to it)
This helps him feel the drums he’s hitting abit more
What's pink noise? Can you actually hear it while the other band is still playing?
Pink noise is a signal generated of every frequency together. This routed to each output individually means we can check everything is patched correctly.
The system is muted while I send this so it’s not coming through while the other band is playing. My outputs only get unmuted when it’s my time to mix.
@RattlinBonesClub Crystal clear, thank you, Sir!
3:23 can you tell what the system tech checks to identify a delay on your L/R matrices and Subs
I’m not sure, I was sending pink noise and he checked the phase and delay. I think it might have been smaart but not 100% sure tbh
what ssl fusion used for?
It’s on my main LR bus
Adds some eq, hf control and I use the stereo width but honestly I don’t think that does much haha
But the eq shapes the mix nicely 🫡
❤while she sleeps
I see the food is hit or miss not just for the musicians haha
Giving bands and crew a good food experience really makes the festival worth it. Hellfest just need to do better 😅
