Pink Milkshake from the radiator coolant mixing with the transmission fluid.
    Body Frame rust
    Bad Ball joints
    Warped brake rotors
    Keys sticking
    Locks and motors gone bad

What state was this bought in? Just curious on their value in other states. Here in FL you can find a 4x4 w/ e-locker for $3.5k if you're patient. I guess I got it pretty good down here.

I got it in CA. Yeah, you got it good. I'd jump on that 4x4 w/e-locker for $3.5. I shipped my GX from FL to CA and it was still 7K less than I could find here.

Just by the crazy amount of late fees he had to pay to the state, it's an easy answer ::: People's Republic of California..

They are so easy to work on, parts are available, and they are so dependable.

Clean your battery terminals. Plan to update radiator to prevent milkshake as described above, Make sure gas gauge works. There is a fix for that. Check for frame rust. Check everywhere for rust. Replace screws holding down hardware in back with stainless. (Like license tag light holders) OBD is down there to the right. Check front seat mounting bolts for rust. Under plastic trim you may find rust. Antenna can be replaced. Check parking brakes for freeze up. You can buy a kit on amazon for them. Do NOT lubricate the pistons that hold up the rear hatch. Your paint is mostly clear coat damage. If you are VERY careful you can sand it off while retaining the color underneath and re-coat. Caution, color layer is very thin. See my channel. Consider checking timing belt.

Install a transmission cooler to eliminate the pink milkshake risk. Upgrade the brakes. Then fix stuff

I've been looking at that. any brand recommendations? I'd hate to swap one problem for a different one.

I don't know man. Picked up my '97 4Runner 3RZ 4×4 5-speed with no rust, perfect original paint, everything working inside and out for $4,400. Further maintenance was required over time, yes, but certainly not restoration.

@@Squisheyy I don't know why. Seriously. At least I didn't go out and dump $12.9k on a '97 4Runner Limited, as some gas station attendant I met a couple years ago did.. it still makes me laugh. I think she felt bad because I kept giggling at her about it.

@@subtegral I was looking for a project car under 5k and got it from a friend. It's been a fun car, so no regrets.

I bought one from a friend single owner with 300k for $1,000. It's 4 cylinder and no 4x4. The actual body looks cleaner than yours. The seats need some work. Truck is silverish color but the interior is the same exact color as yours.
