The show was a major hit on ABC, on Saturday night lineup. (1978-1984) It was a true joy to be a part of this show. Now at 90, I look back and think what great people made it all happen. I'm pretty sure he was in production, something behind the scenes. If he's 90 and retired I'll bet he has some awesome stories. Hell I've lived in West Hollywood since the 80s and even I have Hollywood stories, though they're not as exciting now a days that's for sure -but I'm sure they are not as interesting as his, being 90! I love talking to ppl his age. Hell I remember even in the 1990s you would run into Dean Martin all the time at Hamburger Hamlet, Shelly Winters at the Silver Spoon,and that's when I was real young and it was no big deal because as a kid you don't think that they are ever going to be gone. If I were to run into them now I would have taken a photo or something!

I went on a tour of Warner Bros. studios when they were making Fantasy Island. They took us onto a stage where they were shooting a night scene in the jungle. James Broderick (Matthew ' father) and Laurie Walters (red haired daughter on Eight is Enough) were the guest actors. Tattoo walked right by me. I remember Mr. Montalban had a very pronounced limp which he kept well hidden while on camera. He also had tissue paper between his neck and shirt to keep his makeup off his pristine white suit. Right before cameras rolled he would put on the jacket and they pulled out the tissue. I also remember that all the jungle plants were still in their pots.
Love this!!!!!! I adored fantasy island. Its so cool to see this scenery today!

Stay home with grandma to watch Love Boat and Fantasy Island lineup, or run around the town green with a warm six pack. The great late 1970's Saturday night decision. Watch or loose in those days, no taping that I recall!

Yep that was grandmas shows dallas benny hill fantasy island and love boat you could either be quiet and watch or go to another room if you wanted to talk..it was a sacred thing lol

I think the seaplane was a Grumman Goose not a Catalina as mentioned, which was a much larger aircraft also known as a flying boat

Mr Roarke was some sort of Mystical Character. At one point he talked to mermaids.
Ricardo passed away in 2009 at the age of 88. But until I watched this. I had not realized it wasn’t all filmed in Hawaii!

My favourite show is fantasy island
I remember my mom watched it every Saturday night after the retched Love Boat. As a teenage boy, my fantasies were not met watching that sappy show. Good to look back though, Adam...thanks.
Oh, btw Adam, that planes an HU16 Albatross Grumman. I fly planes but ive never flown one of those, yet it's a dream to do so.
They were able to make us believe that Fantasy Island was some huge island in the Pacific.They even had elaborate sets.Yet,Tattoo's hair changed from scene to scene.

I'd love to see another more in depth visit where you edit in old shots from the series compared to how things look today. Just watched the old TV movies and they are awesome.
After the second season, Ricardo Montalban and Herve Villechaize rarely ever went to where the stars were getting off the plane. They filmed their segment in a studio, only appearing to be on the island meeting the plane.

ive been to that place . I paid like 9$. had no idea fantasy island was filmed here. was watching the show on crackle and thought I recognized the Arboretum (i cant forget that place). and yea it was filmed there! makes sense . that place is paradise. im sure some writer visited that place and got the idea for that show

The plane is actually a Grumman Widgeon that is now in a collection down in Branson, Missouri (technically, it's in Hollister just outside of Branson city limits). The plane in the show has a dubious past of smuggling drugs after the it's time on TV.
I used to think so too, since the Goose appeared in a few shows of the time. But, it was bigger and had a different cockpit window configuration than the Widgeon.
You're killin it with the filming locations this month. I'm sure your just scratching the surface considering the 2015 road trip you've got planned. Mucho goodness awaits. Adventure on Adam!

This was one of my all time favorite shows, back in the day they would first play Love Boat then Fantasy Island. I can't believe you went there. Its very cool to see the place in such good condition. Best Vlog. Also loving the shirts. I can see your fantasy's come true every vlog Adam. You are so blessed. As are we.
I loved Fantasy Island !! I remember Aaron Spelling having his own kids , Tori and Randy Spelling on the show once . Tori is one of my favorite actresses . Her dad was just amazing . I get so excited when I see you do a vlog on something that reminded me of my childhood . Thanks e sharing Adam !!

I think Mr.Roarke is either an angel or a Time Lord--The Doctor The Master and Mr.Roarke.Fantasy Island doesn't look so great in real life but it's cool to see the real place where they filmed it.
The stars went on this show, and the Love Boat, when their careers were dried up.

I heard in a video the other night that the plane was owned by author Richard Back.
That was a huge sync for me because when I first embarked on my mystical journey his book was the first Spiritual book I had ever been introduced to. It was entitled The Bridge Across Forever.

Herve did commit suicide by shooting himself - but he has severe longtime health problems. Villechaize was suffering from chronic pain due to having normal-sized internal organs putting increasing pressure on his small body. According to Self, Villechaize often slept in a kneeling position so he could breathe more easily.
I had to look up the tv show to remember it. I remember some episodes now.
It was on ABC, Ricardo Montalban, at the time was also, selling Chrysler Corodobas with Rich Corinthian Leather,, it was a good show,, but I dont think Charo, was ever on the island , but , she did spend a lot of time on the love boat

Fantasy Island began airing Jan. 1977. Ricardo passed in 2009. Herve shot himself at his home in 1993 at age 50. Anyone out there know where the customized Plymouth Volare wagon is sitting today??
+Bushwacker That was so sad when Herve' Villechaize killed himself. He was such a lovable character, and he had a rather memorable character as 'Nick-Nack' in the James Bond movie, *The Man with the Golden Gun*, which is one of my all-time favorite 007 flicks. I don't know if that modified Volare they always rode around in is preserved anywhere but I sure hope it was. I remember they even had a modified golf cart that looked like a mini Volare on the show.

Hey Adam, someone thinks you need "Therapy!" at 10:54. I once saw Herve' Villechaize (Tattoo) at the Farmers Market in L.A. and as people turned around to look at him he had this expression on his face as though he was thinking, " that's right it is me, Herve' Villechaize!" I was thinking to myself "the plane,the plane!" Someone thinks you're shuffling your feet too loudly because she says with an annoyed tone "Pick up your feet!,stupid man" at 17:57-17:58. Are all the chairs at Fantasy Island upholstered in Corinthian leather? I would hope so. The Arboretum is always a neat place to visit.

I thought it was interesting that they remade Fantasy Island with Malcolm McDowell who also played a Star Trek villain. I liked both shows but I think the remake with McDowell was darker in obvious ways. What I mean by that is the original was pretty dark too, more often than not, but it was less gritty so not all people see the original that way in their memories.

No, the plane never landed in the lagoon! The lagoon is too small.
It was trailered in and started up, so they could shoot stock footage.
Guests climbed out of a mock-up of the plane, not the plane itself.
Have a relative who was involved in this.

Adam, Netflix has "Fantasy Island" season 1 on DVD only, four DVDs. Currently only season one is available so it seems.

There was a remake of Fantasy Island in Jim Carrey's time, 1998-99, though they mostly picked B list aging Movie and TV stars and of course Charro. :)

Herve's voice was very high.Herve Villeze(sic).Manlban had a bad limp from filming Westerns.Theytook care not to show either actor's handicap.Many old time actors & actress took roles to keep up their health insurance.Angela Landsbury Kept up the tradition.Also the public was fascinated to see what they looked like now.They sprinkled in a few of the new stars with an unusual story-line &everyone was happy.
