  • The spring of 2020 has arrived and Big Tractor Power is out in an Eastern Illinois field with a 410 hp Caterpillar CHALLENGER 95E tractor with a 45ft Case IH 330 Tru-Tandem Turbo working on soil preparation ahead of soybean planting. This video takes viewers out to the field to see and hear spring tillage action. Viewers spend time in the cab of the CAT Challenger 95E as well as learning about it's production history, specifications and original price tag.

    That Cat Challenger pulls it along like pulling an empty hay wagon, with our old JD 4010...smooth..Man if I could only go back in time. I did not appreciate what my Dad was doing. But I was just a pup and thought, this is cool living on a farm..

    I can still remember waiting in line, at Wis. Farm Progress Days (we'll just pretend it was a couple years ago), to test drive a new Challenger 65B. When it was finally my turn, I got up in the cab & just marvelled at all the controls & gauges. Then I saw it.... a steering wheel. The rep looked at me, looking at the wheel & he says, "yeah, we've come a long way from the lever days". Lol! I had a great time in that machine. Went back the following day just to do it all again. Thanks for the video & a wander down memory lane.

    I have run this tractor for my son-in-law in Iowa pulling a krause dominator. It's a lot of fun. Hoping I can do more of it in my retirement years.

    Used to rn a 65E flat track pulling a 13 shank sunflower disk chisel. Loved that tractor to death. The cab and control layout on those things were great. Rode like a Cadillac in the field but would rattle your fillings out on the road. Lol

    I ran a 95E for 4 or 5 years for my neighbor. I loved it! Tons of power, great ride in the field, and they don’t feel cumbersome, like other tractors of that size do. But I ran the cat first, so maybe I was spoiled. My only complaint: they ride rough on the road. Not a long distance road machine. If I had a need for a tractor that size I’d be looking for one of the D or E series Caterpillars. Thanks for the video!

    How can you call this implement a vertical tillage implement when it is set up like an offset disc? The only thing vertical are the blades but true vertical tillage implement has zero offset.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Talk to Case IH this what they list it as. It works just the top 2 inches. Most “turbo tolls” today can be set from a 0 to 5 degree angle now to adjust how much soil the farm wants to move.

    • @captaindee6130
      @captaindee6130 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah... Case (and the other manufacturers) can call this "vertical tillage" until they're blue in the face, but it isn't truly vertical with angled disc gangs which are visibly moving soil horizontally, like all conventional tillage. This is more of a hybrid concept with straight discs and shallow operating depths but angled gangs. It does make a nice looking seedbed -- on top. I suspect there's still a compaction layer effect of sorts even at that shallow depth. It seems like they're primarily trying to incorporate residue?

    Why does he stop partway down the field, stop and turn around? Is it due to the length of the field and allow head rows? Is the field split with another farmer? Or is it some other reason I am not thinking of?

    • @bigtractorpower

    These flat tack tractors will last 2X longer than the MT series with proper maintenance... Built from components from a scraper and a bulldozer, these components have been proven by decades of use. They hold over 100 gallons of oil total and have 2 large spin on filters for the steering, transmission, and hydraulic system for a total of 6 filters. Just the rear diff holds 55 gallons.
    Screens and disc magnets, large ones on the trans and differential just in case. Separate compartments to keep contamination if a component fails from damaging other systems.
    Tracks last over 2X of a 4WD tractors tires and can be relugged for half the cost of new.
    One of the best longest lasting Ag tractors ever made. Period

    @BTP: what is the advantage of the MT series and its track configuration versus this series with its smaller track configuration? They are both high hp machines?

    • @debi5292
      @debi5292 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can run less track tension on the MT series because there is larger contract patch with the rear drivers being larger around. It also allows for a less beefy front
      axle that is cheaper to produce but require more front ballast than the older model. The older "flat track tractors are Caterpillar built, and are comprised of proven over decades components from the construction machines made by Cat in the 60's and 70's. They hold in all oil compartments over 100 gallons of oil. With proper maintenance, they will outlast the MT series 2X.
