    I would love to see a tour of this farmers shop.. To see how he stores and maintains all that awesome equipment would be a treat. Love seeing them out in the fields of course, but all of that would not happen without all of that great equipment being serviced and maintained... Must go thru a few gallons of fuel during that single day of running all that equipment!

    A special episode. Big farming operation. Many high hp tractors and brands. Many acres of beautiful farmland with rich soil. Good interview in the cab of the traked Challenger. Reminds me of a Caterpillar D9 bulldozer. IMHO i like the wheeled tractors as far as appearance goes, they look better those big JD's with big yellow wheels with and huge black rubber tires. Enjoyed very much, thank you BTP 🚜🇺🇸👍

    It is so interesting listening to Billy explain things, he answers so many questions I have had like how often he has to change disk blades and how deep the disc is running. I remember pulling a four bottom plow and we typically went about 4 or 5 inches deep. It was not even possible to get 20 acres a day, even a long day. Once the field was plowed, in a sandy loam, we would run a disc with less offset than the Wishek and maybe cut 2 or 3 inches deep to smooth the field. We could cover 100 acres in a day but again that was after it took 5 days to plow the field and we never got any deeper than the Wishek and although the tractor was only 60 or so horsepower I am sure the fuel usage per acre then was more than it is now. Thanks for the informative interview, you do a great job and had a great man to interview.

Less overhead and faster planting all around better really cool to see a large outfit start using them, the ground gets worked so much faster with less tractors. Liked, I know better than to argue with success. Just curious why they don't no-till the wheat into the corn stalks? Or have they ever tried no-till wheat? I'm a regular, so I know they follow wheat with no-till beans. Then corn.. Again, not trying to argue. Just would like their take on no-till wheat behind corn.

    • @lukashilgendag8883
      @lukashilgendag8883 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's too much corn residue left on the field if it's not worked up. Both corn and wheat crops are susceptible to Fusarium pathogens so it helps to work up the ground and reduce the amount of available trash for the pathogen to exist on

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the 26ft disks has tine harrows on it. They really do not accomplish much. The field really gets fluffed up by the disks which does make a bumpy ride. The harries really smooth it out as the drills cruise right across it to seed.

    • @Farmingfrommyangle.
      @Farmingfrommyangle. 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigtractorpower i was meaning more for the harrow operators, but i see what you are saying, with as much dirt as they turn, a drag right behind disk wont do much. We have an old 331 deere "plow disk" that does the same thing. Makes it clumpy and hard to drive over right behind.

    Does the triple setup put a lot of strain on the axles? I.e are there more maintenance/replacement on those drivetrains than the belt tractors? What about of replacement of tires vs belts, how does that stack up?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The triples add no strain. They are the same width as metric duals. They provide better traction and flotation than duals. They ride smoother too. Replacement is less for three skinny tire than two large ones. You get over 3,000 hours on a set.

    Did they switch from the r4045 sprayer with a dry box to the terra gator to spread fertilizer, or mabey that was a different farm with the deeres in your videos a couple years ago.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good memory. That R4045 was at a dairy farm that I film at. They have since switched to a pull type HN345 pull type spreader on an 8370R.

    I have seen farmers around here, bush hogging the corn stalks before running the disc over the fields. You think that will help much?

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It does. This farm until 2003 flail mowed all the stalks, then ran DMI 730B mulch rippers then Wil-Rich soul finishers. In 2003 they switched to Wishek and made tillage a one pass operation.
