The fact that he created a "Hot Rod" 300SL Gullwing (that is worth over a 1 million dollars MINIMUM) and had 2 or 3 more in the shop speaks volumes! Some are worth less, but they are ALL worth 1M at auction, unless its a basket case, which makes it worth 500k. Love that he treats it like a CAR, drives it, and that it stayed in his family! Such a raw and basic build probably makes it worth more, and I hope he keeps it and passes it down 👍

When I was 8 yrs. old living in North Miami, 1963, a regular neighborhood just off 7th ave., a guy down the street from my house had a dark grey/ red interior SL gullwing. 1st time I saw one. Drove a convertible 300 SL in 1976.

The first time I ever saw a gullwing was in a 1/25 scale plastic model, and I was completely fascinated. It was so cool, so unreachable. Something you would dream of but would never even see in real life. Thanks for letting us see what it is like to drive a little-
Dear arminjehle. 👍👌👏 You're absolutely right, Sir! And when you take away the word cars, it's exactly the right terms describing Nicole Johnson too! 💚 Best regards, luck and health in particular.
Almost everyone interested in cars knows that a 1955 300SL is a coupe with gull wing doors. It seems superfluous to call it a gullwing instead of a coupe. They’re beautiful cars, no matter what you call them.
I was in a little town in the netherlands while a tour of these dropped in, like 15 of them. Old german couples, all respectable and clean original cars. None of them as cool as this ofcourse.
Top content Nicole, as always. I love what Robert's done to improve his SL and make it his own. This car has its own distinct story, history and character. I think Harry Metcalfe of "Harry's Garage" nailed it when he said he's interested in "characterful cars." Robert was delightful - great people and interesting cars - the ideal combination.
I’ve only watched two episodes of this channel, this one and the Ruffian Mustang. I may subscribe. I love this car. I’m doing the interior of my truck in plaid
Robert Webster wearing sunglasses looks just like Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas🤔😄. It's great that Robert Webster implements his own and unique vision and follows his own paths. And didn't imitate anyone.
Your videos are always outstanding. I really enjoy seeing the one-off vehicles and the people behind them. The energy you bring while you are exploring the vehicles is cool, too. Makes me want to be a better creator and maybe someday hand you the keys to my project. Keep up the good work!
Terrific vid. Content and production is awesome but the enthusiasm is tops! In my little local region of the World, its humbling to have come across seven of the 300SL. Two gullwing's and the others, roadsters. One was buried in a building with some precious other rarities (Ferrari Daytona coupe... the real deal), and a stash of rare motorcycles. Fascinating fellow whom purchased them all from new. Hes now long in car heaven and the 300Sl had been acquired from the estate, saved and restored. Another fellow I've long known painstakingly self restored his dark blue roadster-- gorgeous. Then there's the fellow with his roadster thats not afraid to drive it in one of the largest US cities, I last saw him at cycling event we had both entered. He had brought his bike with a rack strapped on the back of his 300SL! Going further back in years, two car dealers I coincidentally worked with, they traded each other cars... one BMW 507 for one 300SL roadster. The talk way back when was valuation to make the deal fair to each other and they came up with $175k per each. Lol. Also, the one whom offed the 507 roadster had an original mint (including paint) 300SL gullwing. He acquired it years earlier when that prior owner traded it in for a Ferrari. (Side note: unnamed dealer told me he dumped the Ferrari dealer franchise back then because he felt the cars were p.o.s. and they clogged the shop!) Karma...? Recalling the day he was moving the gullwing inside the showroom and he scarred it on a building column made of jagged stone. Big ouch. Anyways, thanks for this video and all the others!
Have been close to but never driven 3 of them - LONG time ago I'd become friends witht the kid who inherited the local Benz dealership; he managed to snag the display of a pair of 'em in the showroom for a few weeks. Last one I again didn't get to drive but put my butt in was a '57 in a small 'cars and guitars' (honest) shop in Miami maybe 5-6 years ago. It was going out the door the next day to Cal for a million three. Your productions are ALWAYS just so superbly done, this no exception. Was fun to see somebody actually hot rod one of these things. How fun. I was petrified he was trashing an original, but it's obvious he'd created it from multiple sources. Fantastic.
Wow! I’m rarely amazed, but a hot rodded Gullwing takes the cake. I love the way this car would make the pearl-clutchers I know gasp. The best video yet, Nicole!
While still watching,... That engine development, sounds exactly like one would expect Mercedes to have done if they'd kept developing the car, gentle evolution and improvement, same with the LED tail lights and the light weight windows. As a Slant Six HyperPak driver,.. yeah, that lumpy inline six rasp, Love. It!.
It never gets old on how much you enjoy driving, I enjoy watching you enjoy. I don’t know if you find these cars or these cars find you, keep up the great word.
Thanks again for this experience. I have never seen one of these cars in person and next to a Ferrari Dino, I think that the 300SL Gullwing is perfect. Nicole, you brought us along for the ride and let us hear the engine and its' many tones - perfect. I wish your shows were weekly and I agree that Haggerty should pick you up, let you do your thing, and make you a weekly channel. Robert is a cool guy with perfect taste in cars and friends. - Sno Dawg
absolutely mega, nicole. well-presented and i'm a huge gullwing fan - and i love robert's direction with his. if a car is modified, it should be a reflection of its' owner.
Great car and first-class review of a legend! I like the way you explain how this kind of car makes you work to achieve your goals; you are part of the driving dynamic not just along long for the ride!
What a wonderful blend these two were for this episode. Love this chill Robert who has such elevated nuanced taste in his approach to the seminal SL rodded ode to LA/US period Benze and the gal is unpretentious, enthusiastic, yet relaxed not trying too hard, very refreshing - Great Job All Around!
One of the greatest automotive designs ever. I almost bought one at a classic car dealership at the mouth of the Pasadena Freeway back in the mid-seventies. Silver/blue with all the original factory luggage in the back. They were asking $15,000 for it and my ex-wife even said go for it. I got cold feet an passed, ouch. The oldest son across the street when I grew up had one and that really impressed me, but he was always working on it or had it in the shop. Great episode.
I am a German guy of 59 y and I have seen a gullwing driving on the road the last time 40 years ago. It was not part of a historic rallye. Just a normal drive vom A to B. I love your channel and I really appreciate your style.
In 1956 I was a caddie for the owner of Pirelli tires in Samedan (two towns east from St,Moritz) Switzerland. He played only nine holes that day so we had to drive to the ninth hole in the Mercedes 300SL. As a young kid at that time driving in a 300SL, was one of my biggest adventure I will never forget.Very nice presentation thank you.
I swear this could be a Haggerty show, the production is so great!!
This is better then Jason. ❤ I respect him, but the Cyber T nonsence bring his points down.
I'm guessing Nicole wants to stay on TH-cam and work on a schedule she controls. She clearly has the talent to do a Hagerty show.

Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!!
Hello my friend Nicole i love the video ❤
Hello!!! Glad you enjoyed watching!!!
This Gullwing doesn't fit into any category typically shown at Pebble Beach, but it should still be on the Pebble Beach Concours tour in August!
Nice, pretty, famous and just really wonderful cars.
Yes we agree!! Glad you like it!!
Dear arminjehle.
👍👌👏 You're absolutely right, Sir! And when you take away the word cars, it's exactly the right terms describing Nicole Johnson too! 💚
Best regards, luck and health in particular.
Who are you?
@@arminjehle6979
A German, just like you (at least I guess so). Why do you ask?
@@Chr.U.Cas1622 Because your answer was different as the others.
Seriously? It was written all over your face !!!! What an exciting Car to Drive !!! Felt it
Thank you...glad you enjoyed the ride!!
Almost everyone interested in cars knows that a 1955 300SL is a coupe with gull wing doors. It seems superfluous to call it a gullwing instead of a coupe. They’re beautiful cars, no matter what you call them.
Yes they are!!!
I was in a little town in the netherlands while a tour of these dropped in, like 15 of them. Old german couples, all respectable and clean original cars. None of them as cool as this ofcourse.
Thank you for sharing with us!!!
what a freaking cool car owned by a freakin cool guy
"i keep thinking about the strangler" "good"
haha!!!
Yes...he is!! Thank you for watching!!
Awesome car and show as always Nicole ❤😊
Thank you for watching...we're glad you enjoyed it!!
My dad so weird on camera he was very excited the whole time.
Haha...he was awesome, we had fun shooting this episode!!
Nicole, I have to admit that this 4 wheeled beauty is one of the best cars ever being built! I envy you!
Thank you...we appreciate your comment!!
Maybe, given the history of the interior, Robert should get the leather tested...?
Cool car!
Great presentation
Thank you...we appreciate you watching!!
Thank you for the nice comment...we're glad you enjoyed watching!!
I’ve only watched two episodes of this channel, this one and the Ruffian Mustang. I may subscribe. I love this car. I’m doing the interior of my truck in plaid
Thank you for watching...we appreciate it!!
Robert Webster wearing sunglasses looks just like Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas🤔😄. It's great that Robert Webster implements his own and unique vision and follows his own paths. And didn't imitate anyone.
Thanks for the comment...we appreciate it!!
Lucky and privileged to see this car in WA last summer. Amazing to hear it. Thanks for sharing the most interesting Gullwing in the world.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!!
!955 is one of my all time favorite years for cars, and this one is one of the best from that year.
Thank you for the comment!!
Your videos are always outstanding. I really enjoy seeing the one-off vehicles and the people behind them. The energy you bring while you are exploring the vehicles is cool, too.
Makes me want to be a better creator and maybe someday hand you the keys to my project.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you!! We appreciate you watching!!
Thank you so much for sharing with us...very interesting!! We also appreciate you watching!!
Another great video! Thank you!
You're welcome...glad you like it!!
Fantastic.
This car is an original!! He didn't trash it at all, he just put his own touch on it!!
This must be one of the coolest gullwings! A dream for the eyes and ears ! 😎
We're so glad you like it...thanks for watching!!
Wow! I’m rarely amazed, but a hot rodded Gullwing takes the cake. I love the way this car would make the pearl-clutchers I know gasp. The best video yet, Nicole!
We appreciate that!! Glad you like it!!
It!.
Yes...we agree!!
Nicole Johnson, one of a kind, just hope there is an endless list of unique cars and people to feature !
Thank you so much...we hope so too!!
I can feel it!!! What a sound! Kids came out of bed for this sound.
Thank you for the comment!!
It never gets old on how much you enjoy driving, I enjoy watching you enjoy. I don’t know if you find these cars or these cars find you, keep up the great word.
Thank you...I'm so glad you enjoy watching!!
I see where the corvette styling influences came from great car
Thank you for the comment!!
One of the best episodes, this guy is quite a character!
We're so glad you enjoyed watching...thank you!!
Beautiful episode.
Thank you...we're glad you enjoyed watching!!
It's got a unique buzz and pop, you can tell what it is without seeing it. Cool car, cool people. Thats what I like about this show.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed watching!!
A Restomod Mercedes Gullwing? Everything was executed to the highest degree Robert, You are a lucky girl Nicole!!...
Yes and Yes!! Thank you for watching!!
just hearing the exhaust had me phantom feeling it in my chest with those drive bys.
We're so glad you enjoyed watching it!! Thank you!
I aws born in 1955 and that has by one of my all time favorite cars forever!!!! Great video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
- Sno Dawg
Thank you so much!! We appreciate you sharing your opinion with us...glad you enjoyed it!!
What a gorgeous version of the Gullwing. Thanks Nicole & team.
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching!!
absolutely mega, nicole. well-presented and i'm a huge gullwing fan - and i love robert's direction with his. if a car is modified, it should be a reflection of its' owner.
Thank you for the comment!! We're so glad you approve!!!
Great car and first-class review of a legend! I like the way you explain how this kind of car makes you work to achieve your goals; you are part of the driving dynamic not just along long for the ride!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!!
Thank you so much...we appreciate it!! Glad you enjoyed watching!!
Thanks for the comment!!
I am a German guy of 59 y and I have seen a gullwing driving on the road the last time 40 years ago. It was not part of a historic rallye. Just a normal drive vom A to B. I love your channel and I really appreciate your style.
Thank you for the comment...we appreciate it!!
For me this is the ultimate dream car. Unattainable for us regular people now though. What a sweet engine note! Great video.
Thank you for watching!!
Desde Tenerife, islas Canarias, España.... Un Mercedes simplemente grandioso !!!
Thank you so much for watching...we're glad you like it!!
Thanks so much for sharing with us...love it!! We appreciate you watching!!
