Wow! Guys, I *_loved_* this episode. I remember Kenichi Sonoda's work and I have about six of the volumes of Gunsmith Cats, and I recognized the level of craft on display-not just the detail in the guns and cars and environment, but the choreography of the action and the subtlety of character skill. Rally wouldn't punch a character through a wall, but that kick of the clip into the gun is just as impressive.
Apologize if you address this through the video but wanted to post while it’s on my mind because I have wanted to ask you guys about this, but do you remember the comics Neon Cyber and Dark Minds? They were image comics made by Asian artists who had their own little mini studio or something called dream wave. There was a bunch of Akira influence-and Pat Lee, penciled of Dark Minds really kind of smoothly combined western comics with manga in a way that was very nice aesthetically-in fact I believe that’s how I got into western comics lol
Just joined your Patreon, Rich! You're doing a hell of a job. Personally Pepe Larraz from Marvel, and Jorge Jiménez from DC are at the top atm. Simone Di Meo is also just out of this world, ahead of the curve. Dude is insane.
Great video, gunsmith cats is the shit, didn't realize it was the same artist from bubble gum, i remember watching that anime back in high school in the 90s
We can learn A LOT from the manga masters. Especially about fan service. Imagine if comics were sexy again with manga levels of fan service? WOOOWWWEEE! On the channels topic, Kelsey, in CSP we can just do Edit-Convert brightness into opacity and the white just turns into opacity which we can then lock and then work the grays. Obligatory "check out JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" comment! You can see JoJo art improve as the series goes along, especially with Part 4 and onwards. If you want a "newer" artist, you can always look at the now prolific My Hero Academia.
There's a lot of things I prefer in CSP. The only thing I'm holding on to with PS is the brushes, but... I'm close to moving back over. As soon as my adobe membership allows me to leave without paying them a ton of extra money. Vampires! HAHA!
The "bubblegum" in Bubblegum Crisis refers to a bubble about to burst. It's a metaphor for MegaTokyo that's about to explode in violence and Boomer crimes.
You both should check out manga artists Ryoichi ikrgami I know you guys are going to love his work. Keep in mind if you ever decide to do his work it's during the 80s and it looks that amazing
@@ComicKelsey heck yes I saw this documentary it's such a shame that we don't have it out here but they have a documentary Channel like a reality TV show where a famous Monica the artist that created monster and Pluto actually follows other manga artist and see videos of how they do their magic and how the work is displayed. They also go into details of how they do their work and exchange techniques and hardships and what it took to get the product out of their Market. it's where I discovered him I it's where I discovered him I literally it's where I discovered him. It's called Manben

Cool thanks so much Antoine! I did end up breaking out a few digital copies of GSC...so I am going to be reading it...which is exciting!
I really enjoyed hearing you guys brake down storytelling techniques and would love to hear more podcasts on this subject.
